Introduction
By the turn of the century, media had evolved from a source of entertainment to a tool that affected social acceptance in our society. Media has taught us how to accept diversity and the inner workings of different cultures. This essay will explain news media and its effects on the American culture.

Over the past half century, news media has undergone an extreme transformation that changed from a way to keep up with current events, to a method to transform America’s way of thinking. More recently, news has begun to address issues of transgendered individuals, in particular. Stories stressing the issues of discrimination of individuals due to their identification as transgender began to increase. There is a lot of education that has been provided by news media to teach society the things that can be done, or said, to members of this community. GLAAD is one of the premier agencies that ensure that media coverage of transgenderism is adequate and acceptable. One of the most popular recent stories that in which we saw that agency work is the case with Caitlyn Jenner, formerly Bruce Jenner. This was unique as it was the first time that someone as famous as Caitlyn had come out and publicly announced their transgendered identity. When this happened, some news outlets had difficulty addressing this issue with the sensitivity it required. GLAAD employed many public relations specialists to contact various news outlets to educate them about how to properly address the issue of transgenderism in their news coverage. “GLAAD's staff, which has included transgender people for over 15 years, is committed to working with the media to fairly and accurately tell the stories of transgender lives. GLAAD works with national news outlets, TV networks, film studios and Spanish-language media to include real stories about transgender people. GLAAD also works closely with transgender people and transgender advocacy groups to raise awareness about transgender issues. GLAAD provides free media trainings to empower transgender people to share their stories” (GLAAD, n.d). As we are all aware, some news media outlets refuse to address this issue without personal bias regarding information on this issue. These outlets, however, contribute to the societal views of conservatives in America. Although these views may be deemed inappropriate to many people, they are what makes America the
