The north and south were very different in many different ways. They had very different geographic features. They used different transportation methods. Both of their societies, or how people lived and treated each other, are also very different. Both states have very different views on things, and overall are very different. Their geographic features varied on where they were located. In section 2, it talks about how the north has rolling plains in Iowa. It also talks about how they had cold winters and short summers. That is very different from the south, which talks about them having mild winters and long, hot summers. Section 3 talks about the south having swamps and broad, flat rivers. Both the north and south used different transportation
The two cities, although extremely close in location (S) as seen on the map, had completely different ways of governing and running their
All in all, both of these civilizations had many similar characteristics and a couple of dissimilar social and political characteristics. Both of these civilizations had a similar government system, they both had a monarchy government. In a monarchy
Transportation is a big deal whether you're in the north or the south. For the south it was through water to transfer cotton one place to another. North used more railroad
Geography of the North was very cold in the winter and hot summers. In section 2 it also explains that they have thick forests and rocky soil. The Northerners were mainly industry not too much farmers. On the other hand the South had V shaped valleys and Appalachian mountains near them. They were mostly
The geography of the New England region and the Southern region differed from one another. For instance, New England had mountains and rocky soil. They also had a short growing season and both cold and warm weather. On the other hand, the South had plantations with fertile soil and flat lands. The South also had long growing seasons and warm weather. The New England and Southern regions had some similarities as well. For example, they both had many towns settled near the Atlantic Ocean or
North and South. Tall and short. Red and blue. The North and South nowadays have their differences, but a couple hundred years ago, they were practically opposites. Differences in America started developing from the beginning of the colonies, politically and economically. In the early 1800’s, sectionalism deeply divided America.
The American Civil War was the bloodiest war ever in the history of the country. The war which started in February 1861 and ending in the spring of 1865 saw 642,427 Union and 483,026 Confederate soldiers die. The Union consisted of all 6 New England states as well as: New York, California, Nevada, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Oregon, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa. The Confederate states included: Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. The battle between the North (Union) and South (Confederates) was caused by numerous disagreements and opinions, one of the main reasons being the economic differences between the North and South which lead to insurmountable disagreements about the way the country should be run.
In the North, their geography was that they had coal and iron from the state Pennsylvania which helped them build factories, it helped the growth of towns and cities. They were built along waterways to developed and take advantage of waterpower like New York, Boston, and Baltimore so the cities can be the center of trade. As farmers in the north, they shipped more of their products by water which helped their cities grow. In the South, their geography was all about slavery, cotton, rice indigo and tobacco. Southerns said that “Cotton is King” because it was the only crop that fueled the South’s economy.
The socioeconomic levels between the North and the South had a wide variety of different lifestyles. In the North, their main focus was manufacturing goods and the speed of the product production. On the other hand, the South has to be patient with the crops, and the weather in order to have a good harvest time.
Although there were some similarities such as how families growing their own food and men looking for work, there were some differences
The stark differences between the North and the South surface on a myriad of occasions throughout the novel, and can incontrovertibly be argued as some of the main causes of the war. Fremantle, for example, is an Englishman who shadows Longstreet. As he tries to reason the causes of the war and how they fit into the experiment of democracy in the United States, he cogitates, “The North has those bloody cities and a thousand religions and the only aristocracy is the aristocracy of wealth. The Northerner doesn’t give a damn for tradition, or breeding, or the Old Country. He hates the Old Country…. In the South…by and large, they were all the same nationality, same religion, same customs.” (121). In stating that the war is in fact actually about all of these differences, he contemplates the sentiment of the South, comparing it to the willingness Americans had once had to leave Europe, contrasting it with the rising changes of the North. However, the changes and disunity that Englishman Freemantle observed were not the only reasons for the tension between the two areas. Each geographic region had vastly different economic regions. Being that the North (Union) was about twice in size of the South (Confederacy), size and population resulted in mottled economical structure. The Union’s diverse economy was comprised of factories and manufacturing bases, while the Confederates maintained their flourishing cotton agriculture. Because of this, arms for the war were predominantly
From Reading the sections, life was different in the North than the South because of many reasons. For an example the geography had major differences by having different climates and many different environments. The economy had major differences because of the rights of the people. The last difference is the society of the two that included major differences between the North and South.
As Europe began to enter the 'Modern Age' the South and North began to develop different styles in art during the 16th century. The Renaissance began to increase the work of art and the development of architecture, literature, sciences, religion, and politics. Artists from the South and North have shown different views and concepts of how someone lives his or her life that is displayed in their works. This is because the North and South viewed Humanism differently. For example the North was strongly attached to Christianity. Since the church help power many believed their society was meant to be closer to nature and God as much as possible. Most of their works of art are also about the lifestyles of people and landscapes. But, on the South side of Europe, like Italy, artists created paintings about gods and goddesses, about Greek and Roman mythologies. Their paintings are also mysterious that work the human mind. In addition, the colors mostly used were more alive so the viewer can let their imagination roam freely.
The difference between the north and the south was that the south was mainly agricultural, while the north was mainly industrial. They also both needed something from the other. For example, the north manufactured clothing, while the south produced cotton with the cotton gin. The north needed what the south had which was cotton to make their clothing, while the south needed to buy the clothes that the north created.
In Addition, the film shows the contrast between the settings of the North and the South. The North and South had different landscapes due to where they were located. As the northern region of the United States at the time did not have the means to grow the plants that the southern region themselves depended on as cash crops. So the North held most of the factories that would make materials out of the goods sent from the South. In general, the North had nicer landscapes because they did not have to give up a high number of lands to grow crops. So while in the South they had lands cultivated for growing, the north could keep their lands clean and modernized.
