After struggling in pursuing my “hope to be” future career as a forensic anthropologist, I came to a gradual realization that nursing would be the perfect career for me. In Spring 2016, I’ve been given the opportunity to volunteer at the Diamond Head Clubhouse, “a member-driven psychosocial rehabilitation program for adults”. During my volunteer, I became a part of the member’s life as I engaged in their clubhouse meetings, interacted with their social life as we all harvested vegetables in their garden, and assisted in preparing meals in the kitchen. As some members have a mental illness, it stopped them from participating in any activities. Helping them to push through and complete a task, led me to realize that bringing hope and happiness to the those in need is a satisfying feeling that isn’t achieved in any career. Working with the members brought out my true innate personality as a devoted, compassionate, and diligent human being. In Fall 2016, I enrolled myself in a CNA program. Working from 6 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon then heading straight to school till 10 at night did not affect me, as I enjoyed what I was learning; the skills required to care for the elderly. During clinical, I’ve been given another great opportunity to volunteer alongside healthcare …show more content…
I believe attending the Chaminade Nursing Program, would give me the greatest education as they have smaller class sizes for dedicated teachers to help students one on one become successful, they have an outstanding simulation facility that would give the hands-on experience to learn, and surrounded by faculty members and classmates who all support one another gives the meaning of Ohana, which not all college schools have. To be accepted into the Nursing Program would be a blessing as I have finally found my calling—a
Karen Parra Aug. 9, 2015 Application Essay When I became a CNA I learned how powerful this profession can be, the way nurses influence and touch lives, I wanted to be a nurse because I love helping out others in their time of need. Throughout my experience I have seen how rewarding this profession can be when you care for a patient that appreciates everything you’ve done. Just how the counselors and teachers will take the time to check up on how you doing with your classes and if there is anything I would need help with. Also the faith that this college has with students and always trying to find ways to work around your schedule is great. I have worked as a CNA for almost 4 years and it has allowed me to gain experiences in the nursing field that would
During my life I was taught education is important to make it in today’s society. So because of that I went to school for C.N.A. (Certified Nursing Assistant) straight out of high school in 1992. After working in this field for a couple years I decided that this field wasn’t what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I then decided to work in the Customer Service field with varies companies like BellSouth in the repair department and Carnival Cruise Line in the reservation department. In June of 2003, I took a break to have my third daughter that was premature. After being out of work for about two years I decided to go back to school. I enrolled in University of Phoenix to study Healthcare Administration. After completing the degree in Healthcare

I only had to serve six months I received time served and the judge withheld adjudication. During my time in jail I realized what great mistake I have made and how I was willing to end my life because of the pressures of life. Since then I have become
The course I wish to study is Nursing because I have always had a fascination as a child watching those in the health industry help those that were sick and at their most vulnerable become better again. As a child my younger brother and I both spent our first months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and my dream is to be able to work in women’s health as well as working with infants and children who are sick and in need of help like we were. I have never doubted if Nursing would be the right career choice for
I have been volunteering at the University of Maryland Medical Center since the summer of my freshman year. As a volunteer at the Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit at the hospital, I am committed to provide excellence in service, work independently and efficiently, and exhibit patient interaction skills. Ever since I have started volunteering at the hospital, I have learned to become more patient and understanding toward the people who I interact with, and consequently, I have become a more sympathetic and compassionate person.
I am a responsible and supportive individual with considerable experience working within the health care sector. I was a senior staff nurse trained overseas. However, I have currently completed BSc public health and has been awarded Bachelor of science with Honours in Public Health second class (1st division). I am friendly and polite as well as understanding and able to empathise with people. I have good communication skills, I am loyal, trustworthy and punctual to work.
The men and women of our country’s armed forces currently serve, as they always have, without hesitation or reservation in over 63 countries worldwide. They willingly deploy or relocate on a continual basis, fighting for our safety and defending our freedoms. It is therefore paramount that they receive the highest quality healthcare available for them to fulfill their duties successfully and return home to lead a normal life. As the daughter of a disabled veteran, I have seen firsthand the importance of delivering superior care when it is most needed. There is a direct correlation between waning recruitment, decreasing retention and the overall welfare of the military with the ability of our armed forces to continue to maintain the security
After graduating from Elk City High School I plan to go to the Southwestern Community College on the Sayre campus. I would like to go to school for nursing and become a registered nurse. I plan to go to SWOSU for four years to achieve the goals I have set for myself. I have always had an interest in the medical field, even as a child. Helping others has always been something I love to do. I feel going to college and becoming a nurse would allow to help a great deal of people and hopefully touch many others. After graduating College I plan to use me degree and get a job in the nursing field. I plan to start my life and support myself and become a productive member of society. I personally feel I should be considered for this scholarship because
Being a child who was born with asthma, I spent much of my childhood in and out of the hospital. At the age of seven years old I had an experience that I will never forget. I was once again hospitalized due to an asthma attack and during that admittance; I was blessed to be in the presence of a nurse who expressed interest in my dream to one day becomes a nurse. Upon leaving the hospital the nurse (who I to this very day truly believe to be my guardian angel) prepared me with some gifts that consisted of toy-like nursing supplies (thermometer, stethoscope, bandages, gauzes) etc. This true act of kindness instilled in me my calling of becoming a nurse. From that very day moving forward it was confirmed what my gift from God was, and that is
Nursing as defined by Webster is the job of taking care of people who are sick, injured, or old. However, to me nursing is not just a job. It is a work of the heart, mind, body, and soul; something that encompasses who you are and how you choose to live your life. Being a Nurse is an art, one that requires patience, a steady hand, and an eye for things that are truly miraculous. Unfortunately it seems, that not all professionals have this mindset when it comes to caring for people. While some have what many would classify as never ending compassion and love for those they care for it seems that others are only there to get in, get out, and earn money. I, like many others, have had the sadly tragic experience of having this occur to me and my
I am interested in the Nurse Scholars Program at Michigan State University because I believe that nursing is my vocation. Being accepted into a nursing program will mean more to me than a piece of paper that reads B.S.N or a job in the medical field. From a childhood filled with stories my grandmother would tell of her experiences as an Emergency Room nurse to spending countless hours of my own time volunteering on the Post-OP floor in the same hospital, I know that to live a life devoted to helping others is the life I have been called to live. The Nurse Scholars Program would mean an opportunity for a clear path to a career that I have been passionate about my entire life.
As a first generation Asian American, choosing a career path was not as easy as it may have been for others. As a child I remember always wanting to nurse the people around me back to health, whether it be as simple as putting a Band-Aid on a wound or trying to emotionally comfort friends. Most importantly I remember caring for my progressively sickening mother. At that moment, nursing became a daily necessity instead of a future career option.
Camilla Care Community is a nursing home that I started volunteering at during the summer of 2013. As a volunteer, I was not assigned to any specific duties, so I took the initiative of helping out any nurse or resident when needed. Eventually, my routine consisted of folding laundry, setting up cutlery, transporting residents in wheelchair to the dining area and organizing games. All these little tasks added up to help the nurses tremendously since the work was done quickly. I was very committed, as I spent five hours at the nursing home everyday. Through this volunteer experience, I was able to make a difference in residents’ lives and apply my teamwork and leadership skills in certain situations.
For me, one of the key reasons I pursue medicine because it is important to every one of us and I can be involved in medicine through many different aspects. I believe in medicine that encourages doctors to be involved in the community through outreach, research and ultimately patient care. I value this holistic approach because in order to improve medical care for the people, each one of these components needs to work together seamlessly. In that sense, I am fully committed and excited by Yale School of Medicine’s three core missions of education, research and patient care and its focus on community.
Ever since I was little some of my meaningful memories have originated from when I was at the Nemours Hospital for Children. As I grew older, I started to go there less until this past summer, I applied to volunteer at the hospital . I wasn't sure whether I wanted to do it or not but i applied anyway under my mothers influence. I got into the program. Once I started my volunteering I soon realized that this would be the event that marks my transition from childhood to adulthood. With learning to make new friends, learning to care for children, and learning of the value of volunteering, I had begun my transition to adulthood.
