Advertisements and images are powerful tools of media that can be effectively used to persuade people. The Australian Red Cross publicizes a very simple, yet powerful image that attempts to directly speak to its viewers. A subsect of the International Red Cross, the Australian Red Cross, is a humanitarian organization that is dedicated to help people who are in need. It depends on the citizens of the world to support its life saving services and programs. The Red Cross values the time, blood, and money that people donate to the organization (Citation for this info?). By placing emphasis on certain parts of the advertisement and then instilling pathos through the use of colors, the Australian Red Cross attempts to solicit donations by stressing
The ad above displays a fetus on three-fourths of the page on the left side. The statement "TAKE MY HAND NOT MY LIFE" is written in semi big letters on the right side. The words "TAKE MY" are in white letters. The word "HAND" is in blue letters and is noticeably bigger than both the first line and the third line. And the words "NOT MY LIFE" are slightly smaller than the first two words and are in yellow. Near the end of the page, on the right lower side it says "LIVEACTION.ORG". The statement is centered to the right while the fetus takes most of the page. The words are capitalized so that they do not get lost. The background is nothing but black. The fetus, on the other hand is colorless, it is almost transparent. The features on the fetus lack detail but they make it distinguishable as
I am highly interested in attending MASH, because I want to learn first-hand the career I want to pursue. I have wanted to be an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner ever since my APRN showed me how rewarding it was to help other people by healing them and being there for them in their time of need. This program appeals to me because I am always wanting to learn as much as I can about health care and what it takes to have a health care career. I could bring a positive energy to this program with a smiling face and positive attitude. I am always willing to learn and have an open mind. Attending the lectures, participating in the hands on activities, and shadowing is exactly the opportunity I have been looking for and would be extremely grateful

The U.S. healthcare system is no stranger to nursing shortages. In very simple terms, this type of shortage happens when a lack of skilled nurses negatively impacts individual patient care; shortage occurrences can transpire at a local, national or international level. It is a recurring problem we have been faced with for the past five decades. However, what we will be up against between now and 2025 is a predicament of far greater proportion than ever encountered before. “Considering the impacts this prolonged shortage will have on the U.S. healthcare system, nursing and other health-related organizations have even brought their concerns to lawmakers in the central government for immediate consideration” (Janiszewski Goodin 335). A position statement from the American Nurses Association (ANA) under Ethics and Human rights which I find interesting pertains the ANA’s policy on Nursing Care and Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) and Allow Natural Death (AND) Decisions. I consider myself a baby nurse with only four years of experience. My nursing career to date has been in the medical intensive care area in my hospital. The hospital I work for has three different ICU’s. The unit I work for specifically deals with “the sickest of the sick” we care for everything except traumas, strokes, and open hearts. Most of our patients have multiple comorbidities, terminal illnesses, and are noncompliant. In my short tenure I have had many DNR conversations with patients and family members. I cannot stress enough the importance of communication with both the patient and family members during this critical time. We as nurses have to remember, we our patients advocates and if and when they can no longer make decisions for themselves we must be their voices and help to see their wishes are met. “A study by White, Engelberg, Wenrich, Lo, and Randall (2007) was designed to discover the content of physicians’ prognostic reports to family members of ICU patients. Results indicated families with low literacy rates received less information about potential treatment outcomes and thus may have been more likely to
Medical commercials are something that the general public have learned to phase out if it has nothing to do with them or anyone they know. These prescription drug advertisements are usually jam-packed with too much information and often leaves their audience snoring. However, the newest commercial for Opdivo (Nivolumab) recently caught my attention. Through its use of emotional tones, symbolic visuals, and hopeful tagline, Opdivo is able to capture the interest of someone suffering with certain diseases and inform them about their product. The history of drug advertisements is a long one, and Opdivo’s “New Hope” commercial simply adds to its legacy by using the following aspects to grab their audience’s
The audience for this advertisement is mainly the members that currently have Cigna Healthspring insurance but not limited to them. This is a broad message that is targeted to all Medicare members with the understanding that if they don’t have a Medicare Advantage plan, Cigna Healthspring is willing to provide them with the services they need without hassles in obtaining the care they need. The message has three points, GO, KNOW, AND TAKE CONTROL. Go is the message related to having your annual check-up which help to save more lives in the long run because of early detection. Know focus on helping the consumer to know the 4 numbers that help tell the story about their health. Those are consumer’s blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar,
Working as a medical surgical nurse, I believe patient education is one of the most important nursing interventions and interactions a nurse can have with their patients. Understanding this, it is also very important that education is individualized to the patient’s literacy level to achieve maximize results. For this reason, I have chosen an educational handout developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (n.d.), Reasons to Quit Smoking, to complete this assignment. The handout speaks to the patient regarding reasons to quit smoking, including their health, appearance, lifestyle, and loved ones. Smoking cessation is a topic nurses encounter daily and it is one of our facilities’s
Presenting the poster at a nursing conference can be a stepping stone into publishing an article. The nurse is able to teach the interested colleges about the reasons behind the poster and inform those who are interested the results. Creating a poster is an easy way for other nurses to become interested in the topic without doing the research themselves. Standing proudly and presenting the poster gives the nurse the confidence in herself to continue research.
The orientation process for new hires lasts six weeks. The new nurse attends nursing orientation for one week and then is assign a preceptor on the unit for each shift. The DPCS introduces the new employee to their preceptor. This nurse works three weeks on the day shift, one week on the evening shift and one week on the night shift working with both medically acute rehabilitation patients and surgical patients. Nurses receive extra days of their orientation with patients that the nurse has limited clinical experience such as a nurse with postoperative experience will work more with the medically acute rehabilitation patients to practice new skills. For new graduates their orientation is individualize and can last from 8-16 weeks.
This source is a study that was conducted on nurse practitioners and how they felt interacting and see the pharmaceutical advertisements and marketing ploys. While conducting this study Crigger and her colleagues discovered that the marketing for these prescription drugs is causing concern in the healthcare community, it is also causing conflict in interests and also compromises health care providers. Most of the influence was coming from the medical literature they were reading to obtain more information on that topic. Most of the nurses would read topics that they were not specifically trained in causing conflict. They conducted this study through a small questionnaire of licensed family nurse practitioners in the United States in 2007. They surveyed nurse
Cigna Healthspring is a Medicare Advantage healthcare organization that is working to streamline healthcare services for its consumers. They have recently launch various advertisements focusing on preventative care in an attempt to get consumers to see their doctors more on a regular basis and not just when something is wrong. The advertisement above is one of many that feature some popular actors that play doctors on television shows. Although there is a bit of comedy in the advertisement, it captures the attention of the consumer so that they understand the underline message which is to get the annual checkup. This advertisement can be viewed on television, the company’s Facebook page, and their webpage. The purpose for this is to get
It can be argued that health care providers may not feel pressured by direct to consumer opioid drug ads to prescribe medications that may not be in the best interest of the patient. Providers might agree that DTC ads help remove stigma associated with health conditions. The elimination of the stigma of a patient helps patient acknowledge their health issues and feel comfortable discussing their health problems with physicuans. For examples compared to other pain relievers, opiates are fast acting, and usually work on patients with intense chronic pain. Nevertheless, it is argued that the reason why doctors may choose to prescribe opiates because it can dull very intesnse pain. According to the Mayo Clinic “ Opioids are used to lessen the pain
In addition, the employment process requires effective communication in terms of the messages to post via advertisements. This is because potential candidates will be attracted by the content of the messages displayed through the adverts. In light of the current technological advancements such as the Internet and social networks, human resource managers would want to utilize such channels to reach many potential candidates across the globe (Lugonja, 2011: 2). This calls for flexibility and willingness to invest in technology where adequate efforts have not been made. However, a multidimensional approach would work better since not all people can access the Internet. In a nutshell, the process of selection and recruitment involves looking for and motivating prospective employees to apply for available job posts. Being a negative process, selection entails scrutinizing the qualifications of candidates that have applied in order to choose only the best applicants for various jobs (Sharma, Khurana, & Khurana, 2009: 17).
