“The Palace” is located in the heart of the gables. It is one of the top notch awarded nursing home facilities for seniors stated by many families. Currently being an employee at this facility, I am learning the frightful stories of senior living. Even the Palace one of the most expensive, awarded senior living is actually a terrible place for the elderly. Especially, working at the Front Desk as the receptionist, I have seen firsthand how these poor seniors are forced into these haunted “luxurious” homes. The marble of the building has been often a misleading reason for placing their parent or grandparent in such terrible care. Most humans tend to judge by the appearance of the nursing homes rather than further investigating any violations that the facilities may have. From my own experience with my grandmother, I know it can be very difficult to take care of a senior citizen, especially when they suffer from various conditions and are just not safe in their home. Once adults become seniors, they require a lot of attention and assistance, which is hard when running a whole household and a career. But placing your loved one in one of these facilities can just shorten the amount of time they have to live. Also, it can be very expensive. Lastly, nursing home makes seniors feel the lack of freedom.

When on a placement in a care home, the elderly were treated without respect, they were shouted at by the staff and poor manual handling was used when moving the elderly residents. This was just one care home out of hundreds, not all care homes are like this and the clients will be treated with respect and dignity.

Nursing Home Administration is an area which specialized in medical and health services management. Nursing home administrators specialize to supervise clinical and administrative affairs of nursing homes and related facilities. They also have a working knowledge of the physical and psychological effects of the aging process. An administrator’s duties includes overseeing staff and personnel, financial matters, medical care, medical supplies, facilities, and other duties as specific positions demand. This paper will discuss different aspects of nursing home administrator and I will follow up with an interview by Kathy Kondolf, an administrator at Heartland of Zephyrhills.

3) The three plagues of nursing home as mentioned by Bill Thomas were boredom, loneliness and helplessness. What came to mind when he outlined them was how much I agreed with him. This is what I have experienced firsthand as a nurse working with the elderly. Many of them are placed in front of the nursing station for the whole shift because of the lack of things to entertain them. As the healthcare system in this country has changed, so have traditional nursing homes. Families have the right to expect that their loved ones will be taken care of by professionals in a caring environment. Unfortunately, may people are being abused and neglected in nursing homes. It is very clear that abuse is a serious problem among nursing home patients, and something needs to be done to put a stop to it.

Most people dread nursing homes because it conjures up all types of negative images. Unfortunately, many of the stories that we hear are true. Despite all the attention this issue has received recently, neglect in nursing homes continues at an alarming rate. A large majority of nursing home residents report some type of neglect every year. Tragically, only a few come to light as most seniors either do not have the ability to communicate or are simply too afraid to speak up.

They also claimed that nursing homes offer a worse quality of living than a prison. A part of me tried to deny these rumors, but a larger part of me believed them. As a result, I was extremely reluctant to enter a nursing home, but unfortunately, if I wanted to pass the class and qualify to take the state exam, I had no other choice.

The Topic of my research paper is How to Start Your Own Assisted Living Business. I choose this topic because I have some experience in the health care field. I am a certified Medical Assistant and I wanted to take my education to the next level. The Health care job market is on high demand and is one of today’s most dynamic fields with a wide range of opportunities. I came to realize that the older you get in this country options for housing, health and personal care services become limited.

In 2011 my own grandmother, Alma Lee, was terribly abused and neglected while living in a nursing home that was grossly understaffed. Their staff consisted of felons, ex-convicts and some that clearly disliked their job and didn't want to be there. Staff often relied on medication as a chemical restraint to create a lighter workload for themselves with their

For example, insomnia or disturbed sleep is common in older individuals and ensuring the environment is comfortable is a big contribution to improving sleep. There are many other environmental aspects that can be changed to achieve quality of life for residents.

According to the American Optometric Association, when "you reach your 60s and beyond, you need to be aware of the warning signs of age-related eye health problems that could cause vision loss. Many eye diseases have no early symptoms. They may develop painlessly, and you may not notice the changes to your vision until the condition is quite advanced."

With there being a negative stigma towards nursing homes I’m sure you are aware that there are problems that need to be solved within the whole industry. One of the main problems that arises is abuse and neglect in many nursing homes which I am sure you are aware of. So many smaller problems that happen in nursing homes effect resident negatively and in the bigger picture can result in abuse or neglect among the resident. With the statistics showing the numbers of abuse and neglect in the nursing homes I’m sure you can agree that this is a problem and we need to find a solution, as no one would want there loved one to be abused in a place where they are supposed to be cared for with love.

The nursing homes that are present today have definitely evolved a great deal from where they first started. Before the 19th century, no age-restricted institutions existed in order to care for long term residents. The elderly people who had an incapacity, were impoverished, or had no family, often ended their days in almshouses (FATE). In these almshouses, elders had to live with those who were insane, intoxicated, and homeless. The older individuals ended up being the dominant residents in the almshouses so superintendents changes the names of these asylums. By 1923, the proportion of elders had increased to 67% in the institutions, and managers stated they could find everything they needed (FATE).
