My passion has been healthcare ever since I was a young girl. As the oldest of three girls and living in a single-parent household, I was taught responsibility from a very early age. Ever since I was very little my mom has been taking care of me. As a surgical technologist she had so much passion for taking care of people. I do not think my mother ever turned down someone who was in need of her services. I still remember to this day, family members from both sides of the family calling my mom when they felt ill or had some kind of injury. She loved helping people and people loved being helped by her. My mom depended on me to run the house and take care of my sisters, while she worked two jobs to support my family. Rather than veering the wrong way, like …show more content…
As a result of my past, growing up in a single parent household and raising my own children in a single parent household, I am able to manage stress in a healthy way, patience, and empathy. I believe the rigorous and intense demands of nursing match my capabilities. I feel like I was person is born with the characteristics of becoming a great nurse. As a nurse, I would like to be a caring leader in healthcare, a team player, and most importantly, a role model to my three children. As a nurse you really are putting someone else before yourself and that person you are helping becomes so appreciative of you for doing that. However sometimes patients that you will have will not be as appreciative of your services as others and that is when as a nurse one needs to reflect on how even though they might not have appreciated you now, sooner later they will realize what you as a nurse has done for them. That is why I chose to pursue a nursing career I have worked as a certified nursing assistant, medication aide, and now a medical assistant for the past 6 years. I view all my patients as if they were my family or my
What ultimately prompted my interest was my mother. Two years prior to my birth, a neurologist diagnosed her with Multiple Sclerosis. Growing up, I would assist her in any way I could and ensured I was there for her every step of the way. By taking care of my mother, I soon realized that taking care of others is my purpose. Fulfilling this purpose as a career would be a feeling beyond words. The flexibility of this
Given the goals of WRITE, please state why you should participate in the next class of students. Growing up in rural Wyoming instilled within me a desire to work toward improving access to medical care in rural areas, and I feel my participation in WRITE would equip me with the skills and tools necessary to pursue this goal. I possess a unique perspective into rural communities and will be able to share this with physicians and patients while deepening my understanding of health care challenges in rural areas. I enjoy immersing myself in novel situations in order to learn about cultures, practices, people, and worldviews which differ from my own. I strongly believe in a holistic view of medicine: empowering patients to become partners in
I chose to apply to Georgetown University School of Medicine as I am extremely believe my medical education would significantly benefit from your mission to cure the whole person and the Population Health Scholar Track. First, I am interested in the cura personalis curriculum as it will give me the ability to think critically about the entire person as I worked towards achieving my goal of being a physician with a speciality in addiction medicine. In caring for patients, it is evident that looking at the entire person is crucial for patient care. Recently, I stepped into this role during an encounter with a 16-year-old female patient with knee pain and a BMI of 42.
Vivian Onyechi Statement of Purpose Health care has been at the forefront of my life. Growing up I always knew that I wanted to be in the Health field, but I did not know what direction I would go. You see I come from a country where we didn't take healthcare seriously until you had to go to a hospital. One would think that going to a hospital would reassure you that everything would be alright but that is not the case. The system is designed to make health professionals think of themselves and how they can profit off your misery while incompetence is the order of the day.
Having stood beside my husband for nine months as he struggled through a massive brain injury gave me a firsthand perspective of the power of nurses. Although I had been a new nurse at the time, this experience completely changed my viewpoint. Their compassion, empathy, knowledge, and trust was unprecedented and helped me through many painful days. Devastatingly, after a courageous fight, my husband passed away. This was undoubtedly the most heartbreaking experience in my life.
My aspirations proceed to be influenced by the unexpected, each time making me more susceptible to walk in other people’s shoes. To be precise, my interest of maturing into a healthcare provider spurred soon after facing open-heart surgery nearly five years ago. Now and then, I try to give myself confidence by imagining a tomorrow in where I too will make an invaluable impact. As a believer that all have a purpose to accomplish in life, I feel that mine is to serve those who are in most need and struggle to find medical care based on compassion and not interest. For such reason, after graduating from high school I will begin to look for research and internship opportunities that will hopefully leave my name resonating for the future.
I know I have the ability to put others before me and make sure they are taken care of just as I would want my loved ones to be. A nursing degree is one of the toughest degrees to earn but that’s because you are putting the lives of people in your hands. I know as a nurse I will be able to make well educated decisions in my patient’s care. Nursing is one of the most rewarding careers there is but can also be one of the hardest careers. Somedays you may find yourself hiding the tears for a patient or their family. Other days you might be jumping for joy with a patient. You never know what your day will bring you but you have to be ready for the best, worst and everything in-between kind of

Caring for others has always been a passion of mine, and becoming a nurse has always been my dream. While my dream has turned reality, I can say that nursing has blessed me with the opportunity to not only be a servant to those in my community, but it has also allowed me to be of some comfort to patients and their loved ones during their darkest and most vulnerable moments. Nursing offers a variety of opportunities, where the only restrictions are the ones we set for ourselves. As for myself, all things are possible, for if I want it, I strongly believe it’s already mine. The depths that I will go to reach the latitude of success that I so desire is boundless.
The desire to become a nurse was not influenced by my teachers or my family, but from an interest in the medical field. I also enjoy rigorous and fast paced work, while at the same time using critical thinking skills. After earning my BSN in nursing, I am planning on becoming a mentor for future nurses.
I remember at a young age telling my mother that I wanted to be a nurse just like her, she told me to choose a different path. Her response surprised me but did not stop me from pursuing my dream. I am passionate about being a nurse and what that role means. With recent frustrations with others in this profession I finally understood why my mother told me to choose a different path. I have always believed that being a nurse is an honor, that we are the voice of not only our patients but the communities they come from. When you continually work by those who do not share those beliefs and values it can break you. A nurse that truly cares and understands how

I have been a nurse for a little over a year. Before getting into nursing school, I worked as a CNA at Loyola University Medical Center. It was here that I decided that I was ready to become a nurse. I worked on a cardiovascular unit that mostly worked with heart and lung transplant patients. I saw firsthand what the science and art of nursing can do for not only a patient, but their family too. Personally, I enjoy helping others. It was the main reason for becoming a nurse. I remember watching nurses on television and wanting to be like them. I knew then that these women in their white uniforms and white caps that they were important. I knew that people looked up to them, and that they made an impact on people’s lives. After graduating nursing school and passing my NCLEX-RN I found a job at my current position as a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Nurse at John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County. Knowing that the care I am providing is helping others gives me peace of mind. My future goal is to become a
Nursing has special commitments and expectations unlike any career. Nurses spend the most time with a patient amongst a team of care providers. Nurses play a major role in patient safety and care experience. Nurses need skills to evaluate a plan of care before administering medication. Communication is key in providing information and support to the patient along with their loved ones.
I chose this major because I like to help people. I chose nursing because I want to save lives. I’m interested in nursing also because of my mom. My mom has a lot of health conditions include diabetes, fibromyalgia, asthma, and gastritis. I help my mom on daily basis with her conditions. I love helping my mom. To me, being a nurse is far more than a job or even a career. It's an adventure, a continuous learning process that I embark on bravely each day, in search of life changing events and miracles. I consider myself to be a compassionate person who genuinely enjoys helping people, to positively impact people's lives by making a significant difference while achieving a lifelong dream, because of its endless variety and finally, I believe this is the best career path for me.
