A labor and delivery nurse is a nurse who cares for woman and newborns during antepartum, intraparetum, postpartum, and neonatal stages of birth. These nurses take vital signs to make sure the mother and her newborn are healthy. Labor and delivery nurses aren’t there for the medicine they are also there to provide support for the mother and the family. I would like to become a labor and delivery nurse because I love helping and taking care of others, especially when it comes to babies, I have always been interested in how the human reproduction systems works, and I love seeing others happy.

Becoming a labor and delivery nurse may be one of the most challenging things a person could go through. Having to learn how to balance personal life with great movements a person could do. There are many types of nursing careers you can decide to take, the type of nursing career I chose is an OB/GYN nurse. OB/GYN is used as an abbreviation for the actual name of this career. The “OB” is short for obstetrics or for an obstetrician, which is a physician who specializes in delivering babies. “GYN” is short for gynecology or for gynecologist, which is a physician who specializes in treating diseases which develop in the female reproductive system. Therefore an OB/GYN Nurse is a type of nurse who helps deliver babies and which also helps treat diseases of the female reproductive system. An OB/GYN nurse can be in the delivery room helping out the doctor when the baby is born, or the nurse can also, while the patient is pregnant, take vital signs and do ultrasounds. OB/GYN nurses help women during pregnancy, labor, and childbirth. They also help women with health issues in their reproductive system.

Not only that but I really enjoy helping people, so when a moms in labor I could be able to help her through a really hard but wonderful time. After I shadowed at the hospital it really clicked in my head that I could really enjoy being a labor and delivery nurse.

As a child, I was always curious about how the process of delivering a baby worked. Whenever I would go to see relatives in the hospital I would wander off looking for the "baby department", and never be allowed in to see anyone giving birth. Then, my pregnant cousin moved in with us. She was pregnant and in need of help with preparing for the baby to come. I got to help her during her 9 months of carrying the baby and being there to see her water break was the most fascinating yet traumatizing thing ever. I got to see what the baby looks like when it is first born and how the doctors take care of the baby after it comes out. It really opened my eyes to that area of Health Careers and helped influence me to want to become an OB/GYN (obstetrician-gynecologists). Choosing this career field will not only let me do a job I 've been dreaming of since I was young , but it will also allow me to give the support to people in need of help. I will be able to positively impact people 's lives every day and put smiles on people 's faces whenever I can. I also will be able to attend a "Birthday party" every day! I can help couples/individuals in the process of creating the most precious thing , life. I think my personality fits well with this career. I am very caring and can connect with people easily . I do also have a good understanding of what I have to do to become an OB/GYN.This career field will allow me to make great money , help others and connect with people personally
