Of Mice and Men (1992) Movie Review Of Mice and Men is an action-packed, but peaceful film and novella by John Steinbeck. The movie has been made as an interpretation by Gary Sinise, who is the director and one of the main characters. Of Mice and Men is about George and Lennie (Gary Sinise, John Malkovich) who are very close friends. George is a short and smart man. On the other hand, Lennie is a big man who is mindless. Unlike the book, the movie is very visual with lots of sounds and exciting twists. Since I have read the novella I didn’t really care that much for the movie because I knew what was going to happen at the end. The one thing I was hoping for was that there was a new scene or new storyline. There wasn’t really a new …show more content…
The characters in the movie play the role very well. Gary Sinise (George) plays George very well in the movie. He portrays George to be a stubborn short man that always seems to be angry at first. At the beginning that’s what we thought. But as in the book George changes to become kinder. That also occurs in the movie. Lennie acts similar to what occurs in the book. The movie makes the characters sound and acts similarly on purpose. Lennie in the book is not smart at all. In the movie, though he acts a little dumb because of his voice. But they both act the same if you add the same voice of the actor. This connects to sound and how sound can affect how people think of a character because of their voice. Curley’s wife does not really portray the character in the book. I believe that this has to do with the sound of each character which can change your opinion about a character like Lennie and Curley’s wife. Overall she acts more loving in the movie than what is shown in the book. Curley himself acts that same in the book and in the movie. He is still the same person that is mean and is always meant to everyone including his wife. Slim is also the same. In the book, he is very chill and calm. Same in the movie. In the movie, he is very chill. But in the movie, he does not seem more powerful at all than what was portrayed in the book. In the book, he is called the prince of the ranch, but in the movie, he is still powerful but it is not shown very
The character in Of Mice and Men that is most similar to Tom Buchanan in The Great Gatsby is Curley. Curley and Tom Buchanan have many similarities throughout both books. These shared characteristics stem from one thing both men have an abundance of: privilege. Curley and Tom are easily two characters with the least amount of struggle in The Great Gatsby and Of Mice and Men.
Of Mice and Men is an excellent story about two ranch workers who have a dream. This movie is directed by Gary Sinise, and he also plays the role of George. There is one setback to this dream. Lennie is not the brightest person on earth and he travels with his acquaintance George. George is a smart person and he took in Lennie when his aunt Clara died. Lennie at the beginning had to flee with George from a town called Weed because Lennie touched a girl's dress and ripped it. Lennie and George then go to a ranch and meet The Boss (Noble Willingham), Candy (Ray Waltson) ,Curley(Casey Siemaszko) and many other Characters.

Directed and produced by Gary Sinise, it is a heartwarming movie starring John Malkovich (Lennie), Gary Sinise (George) and more. The movie, based off the popular and once infamous novella Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, talks about the working class in the 1930s when the stock market crashed. Overall, the movie depicts aspects of the lower class realistically, and how the two men, George and Lennie, go on their lives. The setting gives the audience a direct point of view of life in the early 1900s. By watching the movie, the viewers know that the plot is often very troublesome, since the two main characters attract trouble.
John Ernst Steinbeck Jr. was an American author wrote many novels including one of his most famous, Of Mice and Men. Of Mice and Men teaches many lessons about the nature of human existence. Each relationship grows throughout this short story and end with a dramatic experience. All of the characters, including Lennie, George, Crooks, and Curley’s wife, admit, at one time or another, to having a profound sense of isolation, seclusion and loneliness.
Despite having many differences the film remains faithful in capturing the novel and putting on film. While one may not get everything from the movie as from the book, the majority of it is there. So for die hard fans of the book there is no need for disappointment. All the main parts of the book are there, the characters, the plot, the setting

Curley’s wife is a complicated character. She is unfaithful and bitter. But that’s only because she is extremely lonely and feels unwanted by her husband. The classic novel, Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck was made into a Hollywood Blockbuster in 1992. Directed and acted by Gary Sinise and John Malkovich, Hollywood took a stab at trying to recreate this literary success. The novel, which takes place in the 1930’s, follows the lives of two men, George and Lennie, as they try to attain their dream of owning a farm. George is a smart man who always seems to have things figured out. Lennie is massive, but has the mind of a young child. Of Mice and Men is a story written by John Steinbeck. The book is about two migrant workers named George and Lennie. George is mentally stronger than Lennie and Lennie has the mind of a child. John Steinbeck is successful when making Lennie sympathetic when showing that Lennie is loyal and caring because of his dialogue and actions.
The personality of George and Lennie are demonstrated by the use of different verbs and adverbs. Typically, the descriptive words used towards Lennie demonstrate his absence of maturity. For example, when Steinbeck mentions “dabbled,” “shapeless,” and “timidly,” he is trying to display Lennie’s indecision and hesitation when it comes to dealing with struggles, conflicts, or anything. On the other hand, Steinbeck uses adverbs such as, “sharply” and “gently,” which suggests the fact that George thinks deeply before he speaks or takes action. Overall, the reader is able to surmise, that Lennie still has state of mind where he requires the care of an adult, in this case, George. In addition, Lennie looks up to George as a role model because he believes if he emulates what George does, he will not land in
John Steinbeck presents Curley’s wife at the start of the story as an irrelevant character because she has no relation with George and Lennie. At the start, Curley is one of the most important characters (besides George and Lennie) because he has the power to crush George and Lennie’s dream of having a farm of your own. But as the story goes on, to end, we see the importance of her character and that everything that has happened on the ranch is caused by her presence; even though she is not in the story as much as others, she has a long lasting effect on the other characters. She is mentioned in the story a lot because of how she would acted around the men working in the ranch. In the end, we knew Lennie and George were not going to get a
With many scenes taken away because some characters are never mentioned took away a lot of the overall meaning of the story. I didn’t feel to relate to the movie as much as I did with the novel. Leaving an apt amount of scenes out, took away some of the anticipation I was building up to. Which made me a bit disappointed.
Curley’s wife is perhaps the most complex and ambivalent character in the novel. She is a pivotal character in the book, yet her personality is never fully
