Stay Dedicated
The dedication, time and hard work that olympic athletes put into their sport is mind blowing to many people. They dedicate much of their life to train for the Olympics. Somehow they do not give up or call it a day when they are struggling or having an awful day. They step up to the challenges in their life head on. Each athlete has their own method to stay motivated. Some try to mirror their role models, celebrate the little victories, or make goals. Others have a phrase they repeat, or they find himself in a sport and use it for motivation. Every athlete has their own way of staying focused and dedicated in the positive and negative times.
Sarah Hughes, a former figure skating olympic athlete, describes being an olympic athlete as

Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin, finds that, “It’s important to strive to achieve something on a day-to-day basis”. Although she makes yearly and monthly goals, she finds that the little goals like getting a flip or movement of a routine right is a good starting point to achieving a monumental goal like perfecting a complete routine. Daniela Silivas, who is also an Olympic gymnast, believes that, “part of the love of the sport is feeling real pride in accomplishments big and small, in charting one’s progress through the hard work”. There may be many failures in achieving a goal, but there are also many little achievements that deserve recognition. Liukin and Silivas, both believe that the little goals are the stepping stones into achieving the major goals. Also that goals are crucial for staying motivated. This way of motivation is an effective form because it celebrates the little things, which people can focus on better, and makes them want to do better. I believe that setting goals is a great way for people to stay motivated, but it does not work for all people. Some people may not be able to motivate themselves to try to accomplish a
Motivation in sports is why people do what they do. It is also the direction and intensity of one’s effort and determination to achieve. The more motivated one is, the more likely one is to succeed.
Some people believe that dedication, persistence, and time people can accomplish any goal. Everyone should have goals when striving to achieve a specific task. Goal setting is used by top level athletes, successful business man, and achievers in all fields. A wise athlete once said, “Without time and effort put towards ones goal for the sport, you are nearly wasting your time and your teams time and you will never achieve ones goal for that
It is time to pay college athletes. The collegiate sports nonprofit conglomerate the NCAA is an organization that oversees over 1200 institutions between two divisions, D1 and D2. They implement rules and regulations that every student athlete must follow between these two divisions regardless of their sport or school. These top college players are expected to withstand a 40 to 50 hour training and playing schedule While keeping up their school work in the same week. Because of this many of these students get nothing out of their scholarships they receive to attend the school and an even smaller amount of these kids even make it to a higher level of competition. The NCAA the tax exemption monopolistic program takes in an average of over
but because the drive and determination to complete a goal exists we get up and put in the effort. Working hard to accomplish a goal is the key to success, for a goal doest just happen overnight. Shawn Jonson and her novel helped me see that. Shawn went to the gym almost every day and worked hard and she inspired me to do the same. Injuries can occur in gymnastics as well as any sport.
Good afternoon ladies and gentleman. I stand before you today with a matter that is very prominent in the college sports industry, especially within the sports of football and basketball, and that is whether or not to pay the collegiate athletes. I firmly believe that college athletes have the right to receive payment due to their services in the sport. Many college sports are large attractions for these schools resulting in a gross of millions of dollars for the universities. The league that represents them, the NCAA, is a billion dollar organization due to the popularity of the sports teams. The players on these teams deserve a fraction of the money that they bring to these other groups. Also, making it to the professional level is a
Name one thing that brings an entire city, state, or country together. Sports. Of any kind. It really is a huge part of human society without you even realizing it. Athletics are as important to a child’s life as a tractor is to a farmer. Especially for young adults in high school. Either in going to the games, or playing in them. Athletics play an influential part in my life because it brings responsibility, and prepares me for the real world.
High profile sportspeople do not deserve a second chance or any other form of special treatment when they enact inappropriate activities such as drug doping, drink driving or even murder that may or may not hold relevance to the sport itself. This is believed for a multitude of reasons; firstly, these sportspeople are seen as role models by many and by enacting such activities and then being able to swiftly evade the consequences, they are essentially purging them of the ones they look up or in the more extreme cases, giving them the incorrect mentality that what they are doing is in fact, respectable; secondly, being given this special treatment will merely lead to them being given a sense of invincibility, a sense that they
What stood out to me the most about Special Olympics Nebraska are the programs they provide. The three main programs are sports, health and education. To me, the biggest program out of the three is their sports programs. This program provides so much to these athletics. Not only does it allow them to become active again, and participate in competition, but it opens up doors for them. For example, the Special Olympics changed Eric’s life. Before the Special Olympics, Eric was very shy, and did not open up much. However, that change very quickly once he began participating. Now, Eric is very open, and goes around telling his story. This is just one case of many of how the Special Olympics effects their life’s. Their health programs are also a
All athletes can benefit from the use of resistance bands or stretch cords, but they are especially good for swimmers and triathletes because of the versatility they offer. They can be used for a quick workout, as a warm up tool, or for when you are travelling. They are lightweight and easy to take with you anywhere, but pack some serious health benefits when used regularly.
Everyday, people are walking past the State Gymnasium to go to their classes, to catch the bus, or to workout. Without looking at their surroundings, most of them fail to realize that they are missing out at a beautiful, powerful, impressive display of art. This amazing embodiment to Iowa State is called the Three Athletes. The Three Athletes exhibits three different sports, a football player, a track runner, and a basketball player. Each sport is equally significant to the other. By exploring its history, its importance, and its appropriateness as a piece of art on the Iowa State’s campus, the Three Athletes will no longer be unnoticed.
One of the first things that pops into your head when you think of the Olympics is the torch. Anyone who watches the Olympics just can’t possibly ignore it. It is the most weel-known thing about the Olympics. Throughout many years the Olympic Comitee has done a good jobs keeping the torch a tradition.
Many people see athletes with a natural sense for a sport without seeing their commitment as to their goal. Marion Jones, an athlete in track and field and basketball, has exemplified that commitment makes method. During her life, she has played and accelerated in everything she has done. Whether it’d be basketball or track and field, she is a phenomenal athlete with goals of her future. Marion Jones is an athlete with a perseverance and determination to achieve her fullest capability. Skip Downing, who has wrote about commitments making method in his book On Course, said for a person to fulfill a goal, they must have a commitment with no excuses and have a sincere will that will push them to get their goal. (_) Athletes have a strong

In the 2016 summer olympics, an expected 206 countries are going to participate. The modern olympics today are not the first olympics in history, for the olympics can be traced back before the common era. The ancient olympic games established a domino effect for many other events in history.
Motivation is crucial for an athlete in order to want to win. It is hard to want to win if you have no motivation. The main aspect of motivation in terms of the self-determination theory is intrinsic motivation. The self-determination theory can be defined as “a highly appropriate conceptual framework from which to study sport persistence and dropout” (Calvo, Cervelló, Jiménez, Iglesias, & Moreno Murcia, 2010). Intrinsic Motivation can be defined as “an athlete taking up playing a sport just for the enjoyment of playing a sport” (Pelletier, Tuson, Fortier, Vallerand, & Briére, 1995). It is important to realize that the self-determination theory affects an athlete’s motivation intrinsically (internally) because the self-determination theory uses factors like “autonomy” and “competence” to motivate an athlete to play better in their sport. Most athletes, now and in the past, find it easier to motivate themselves intrinsically if they enjoy the sport or have fun while playing the sport (Ryan & Deci, 1985).
