​From a time when achievement was rare, and succeeding among minority was minuscule, a sense of order was needed. During this time Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated came into the world, bringing core values and achievement. Within the five objectives Kappa Alpha Psi showcases the distinction of itself from other fraternities. The founding fathers had the desire to shape a unique group personality different from the other greek letter college organizations, around the idea of achievement. When achievement was mainly concerned with improvement of personal status, security, and meeting the demands of everyday living the founders of the fraternity envisioned something bigger. Thus bringing about the Five Objectives that men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated live by and exemplify on a day to day basis showcasing Achievement in every field of human endeavor.

One of the main reasons I was initially interested in Delta Sigma Pi was the professional aspect of it and how it focused on skill development and cultivating a better future. Although I have come to find over the past semester and a half that there is so much more to the fraternity than just that, business professionalism is still the fundamental cornerstone of this organization.

As a teen I participated in “From Girls to Pearls”. During my time in the program I learned many life skills that served valuable to me in my adult life. One of the most memorable experiences for me is when the sorror’s of Gamma Zeta Zeta taught a workshop on how to eat in a professional setting. Currently, at Howard University there are a total of nine African-American Greek organizations entitled “The Divine Nine.” The first fraternity of the divine nine is Alpha Phi Alpha which was founded in 1906 and the first sorority of the divine nine is Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority incorporated which was founded on the campus of Howard University in 1908. The Divine Nine is very big part of Howard University because most of these organizations like AKA, were founded on the historic Howard University campus.

Sororities are commonly known as a college social club or organization for women, with particular distinction given to the African American sororities. Brought about at the time in history when traditional roles of women were being challenged, the founders of the first black sororities had to overcome the stereotypical views of sexism as well. They were considered unique, although college wasn’t really an option for African American’s. Within society they were being treated in rejection because they were black. I’m currently seeking membership in Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated, for brotherhood and a friendship, with successful leaders who strive to compel an impact in their communities. Through all my interactions and meeting with members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, the features that stood out to me the most that made me personally want to become a member were the friendship they held with each other, and those of similar characteristics. The fact that they were willing to help other men continue to grow and better themselves in any way they could. The men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated that I have met, have pushed myself to become a better man and friend. These bonds have added a value to my life that I am forever grateful for.

The Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity provided a voice and a dream for African Americans around the world. For people who were colored at the time this fraternity was created, had to struggle in their everyday life because racism was such a huge focus. Alpha Phi Alpha was founded at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York by seven outstanding African American men who attended college there. They created a strong bond and brotherhood in the organization and were an inspiration to colored people all over the nation. The seven founders were known as “Jewels” at the fraternity. These seven men were Henry Arthur Callis, Charles Henry Chapman, Eugene Kinckle Jones, George Biddle Kelley, Nathaniel Allison Murray, Robert Harold Ogle, and Vertner Woodson Tandy. They were all very intelligent and brave men, a lot of people looked up to them. The fraternity was created and based on colored people who were racially prejudiced socially and educationally. I first learned about Omega Psi Phi when I was a child. One of my late father’s best friends would always wear Omega apparel no matter what was going on. The Omega man’s name is Marquette Allen but I always knew him as “Tiny” and this man is far from being small. I grew up with his sons as friends on into high school where we all played football.

According to appstate.edu some sororities still are required to use the word fraternity in their official name because they were already legally incorporated and couldn’t change it.

My partner and I grew up around many sororities, but Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. has always caught our eye. When our teacher explained our topic that could be an interest to us, my partner and I decided on Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. The sorority A.K.A means a significance in our community. It was the first African American women's sorority dedicated to serve the people and others in need. We knew that we would dedicate our time in making the project a success.

Phi sigma sigma began when their founders went to the Dean of Women at Hunter College in New York City with a plan. They wanted to begin a sorority that would be open to all women. On November 26, 1913 Phi Sigma Sigma started. It was the first nonsectarian sorority, began under Fay Chertkoff. Their Alpha Chapter was at Hunter College.
