Despite being a relatively young industry, online dating has already become one of the most profitable types of business to be found on the Internet. The service attracted 60,000 members during its first year in operation; by 2005, it had acquired more than 15 million active users, as well as “about one million paying subscribers from more than 246 countries” (“History of Online Dating” n. p.).
The online dating industry as a whole is currently worth millions of dollars each year, and it is expected to continue to grow in the upcoming future.
