Online group work has been something that makes me very nervous. I have found from previous classes that I spend a lot more time working on these assignments compared to work that I must do on my own. I understand that group work typically means that all members will receive the same grade, so I have found myself picking up the work of others to make sure that I get an A. In one previous class I had weekly group work. This was very difficult for the first couple of weeks, but once our group figured out how we could complete the assignments successfully we could get in a groove. I am typically quiet, but if I find that I can provide some good input then I am willing to speak up. I try my best to be organized, and I like to get work done …show more content…
I feel like it is reasonable for each member to check in on the discussion board three times a week. I would expect responses to e-mails in 24-48 hours. It would be useful to make sure the e-mail is checked frequently before assignments are due. In past groups, we have been able to get by without conference calls. I believe that if discussion boards are checked frequently communication can effectively be made with the group discussion …show more content…
The baby isn’t due till March and everything is going well, so I don’t believe this should be an issue. I will make sure to get all my work done. If I do need to request flexibility it would be an emergency and I would be requesting help. If there is a request for flexibility, it should be made as soon as the problem is known.
Performance Expectations Individual work should be submitted at an MBA-level. All work should be proofread before submission. I expect that the final grade on the group project be an A. I am willing to take on the work that the leader assigns, and I will put forth the necessary time and effort to make sure my work is exceptional. I am also willing to review final group work before submission. I want my work to be consistent and thought out.
Expectations about Timelines I do whatever I can to be early in my classwork and my professional work. I am willing to work with the different views of timeliness, but all due dates should be met.

For this class project, I think my group worked well together on the assignments. We all saw we had responsibilities and were expected to do our own parts for each assignment we worked on. For each assignment, we would split it equally among us and used a tool called Google Docs so we were each on our own computers but working together on one file. Google Docs really made the process easier with reviewing all the information and having it all in one file. If any questions came up we had a group text to communicate when we weren’t on campus grounds for class.
In an online class setting, it can be very challenging to work on a group project that requires the participation of every group member and completing the project on time. This group project was successful one each individual had because we used proper communication to assign tasks, roles, and deadline to complete the project.
This leaves me with a great amount of flexibility during the day, which is one reason why I am so communicative with these group assignments. I realize that the rest of my group members probably are not in the same situation as I am with the whole flexibility aspect, so my main goal for myself, is to be patient when my fellow group members are finishing up their portions of the assignment. This is a good skill set for me to use because in the past I would sometimes get anxiety and worry about finishing assignments late Sunday night onto Monday morning. Since I am not working, I am more relaxed about the timeline and I am able to show more patience with my group
1. Come to class on a regular basis. 2. Make sure that when we miss class that we contact the others in our group and instructor. It is our own responsibility to contact the group for any updates/notes or anything missed from class or group meeting. 3. Work on group assignments collaboratively and ask for input from the other groups as needed or the instructor to further move along to accomplish goal/assignments. 4. Meeting time/place: Schaumburg or Hoffman Estates ??? TBD 5. Switch roles per assignment: The following roles will be
Initially, I had a negative view on group working because of the challenges that I had. When I was in high school, my five other friends and I used to work together in a music competition. Although we were supposed to get together to practice
In this paper I will describe and analyze my experience working in a group situation, writing a paper on the movie 12 Angry Men. I will address therapeutic communication techniques used in our group situation. I will address any conflicts that arose in our group. Utilizing Tuckman’s group process theory, I will also address the effectiveness of our group process.
Group work has been a cornerstone of the social work profession and requires a variety of facilitator skills and awareness of group processes. The SSLDTM Group Program for People with Difficulties in Social Situations (Socialwork1914, 2017) provides an excellent example of a psycho-educational group co-facilitated by two female social workers, Jane and Karen. After viewing the 6th session of this 8-week program, I began to understand how the concepts of group formation/development, interpersonal dynamics, and leadership styles contribute to successful group work outcomes.
Teamwork can be complex and challenging given task and interpersonal issues, level of group motivation and expected performance standards. The concrete experience spoken about in this reflection piece is in reference to the effectiveness of myself as a group member and the group, working to write a report outlining the organisation and structure of Volkswagen. Dennison (2009) applies Kolb’s learning cycle (1981, 1984) which suggests that learning moves through a continuous cycle, between having an experience, and then reflecting on that action. This cycle has been developed from Lewin’s (1951) model for experiential learning. Reflection termed by Boud, Keogh and Walker (1985) ‘is a forum of response to the learner to experience’(p. 18). On reflection, the early set group dynamics was a defining factor in the experience, and how the team conducted themselves throughout the task. Meyerson, Wick and Kramer (1996) note that ‘such rapidly converging groups require methods for developing “swift trust”’ (p. 8), which can explain why initial group dynamics are so important. I took on multiple team roles, including group leader, which could be translated into the team not performing collectively on a high level, however, I could view this as a personal ineffectiveness of my leadership style.
In my undergraduate work, almost all of my classes that were directly related to my major required at the least one group project. In the beginning this was not something I was very fond of mostly because I had some bad experiences when it came to working with others on projects. Usually it was the problem of people not pulling their own weight, and doing their parts to help with the tasks. When it came time to have the assignment complete it was even harder to give a grade to those people. I did not want to be the guy who caused someone to throw someone under the bus. However, after I thought about it, I did want to be that guy because in the real world on a work project if there was someone who did not pull their weight in the job projects would not be successful. So, when it came time for grades, I was always honest, and usually if a person did not do their part I told it how it was.
I do tend to be more of an assertive type of person. I like my ideas being heard and if I have something to say I want to say it. I do not really have a problem bringing attention to myself. I like when I am challenged with something that most people cannot come up with a solution and then I do. Those types of situations seem to stimulate me and make me work harder.
My feelings about the group process was a little mix at first but, at the end I felt like we actually brought it together. Beginning of the group member were all over the place and had no direction, when we were able to take a breather in just think ideas started to flow. I felt like that took the communicator to make it happen. By reinsuring the other group members that everything will go smoothly if we just don’t overthink everything.
Working in a group is far different than working by yourself. With that being said a group speech experience in this setting was very daunting. Our project was to do an act of kindness and present on it. My group chose to serve meals at the Salvation Army. I believe as a team we all worked well together. With that being said there were many things we did right as a group. However, there was also many different things that we could have done better. Bearing these two things in mind I will now recount my overall experience throughout this project.
We’ve all been in that situation where you’re assigned to do group work with a person that’s difficult to work with, and you’re stuck trying your best to complete the work. Many teachers assign group work as a way of learning well with others and expect good cooperation and completed work on time, but an uncooperative member can have an inferior effect on the entire group. In my opinion, teachers should not give group work, for it can have a detrimental effect on everybody. Most can agree that group work causes many disagreements among group members as well as not getting along, everybody get the same grade regardless of the effort put in, and most people would work much better individually. When people work in groups, most are prone to
For our group presentation, my peers and I had a group chat and a shared file to work with. Most of our communication was via Facebook Messenger and Google Docs and during class time. Though this method eased our work and gave us flexibility, it also caused some problems that we did not foresee. I expected this project to be taxing, but instead found it much easier. The group overall was about the same as an essay, but with a visual twist which was interesting.
My contribution to the groups creation is craft with natural resources, for my talent I use natural resources to create neat objects, to construct and build with. I contributed this creative talent to the group by collecting natural resources from my home. I collected branches from around the section and use my tools to make them similar lengths, I used cabbage tree leaves to plat and act as rope to hold the branches together. I found some recycled wood from previous projects under the pizza oven, I used all the natural resources collected to make the backdrop and structure for the puppets.
