Many arguments against same sex marriage are based on religion. Orthodox Christians, for example, view marriage as a reunion of the essence of man and the essence of woman as portrayed in the book of Genesis. The bible states“ 'If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.” (The NIV Study Bible, Lev 20.13). The United States however was not founded on, and is not ran upon, the laws of Christianity. The Federal Constitution of the United States of America outlines a proper framework for our nation to be run by. The federal constitution of the united states of America was written by well educated business men and political …show more content…
in ScienceDaily). Biblarz and his colleagues at NYU revisited relevant studies about parenting then cross referenced them with data on single mother or single father households and gay or lesbian couples. Through their analysis they found no evidence of gender based parenting abilities. According to their study their where far more similarities than differences among children of traditional marriages and those of same sex couples. Judith Stacey, a contributor to Biblarz's study, puts this issue to rest when she states “The family type that is best for children is one that has responsible, committed, stable parenting.” She concludes by saying, “The gender of parents only matters in ways that don't matter” (qtd. In ScienceDaily). Family is the core component within a functioning society. A families responsibility in culture is to propagate the human race and to teach proper values to the children of the family. Marriage is the glue that holds a family together. The third group of arguments attempt to illustrate same sex marriages as corrosive to family values and bad for the sanctity of marriage. Its hard to watch the news for an hour and not hear family values mentioned, But what exactly are family values? In Dr. Jim Taylor's article “Parenting : The Bad Rap on Family Values” he explains that Americans believe in the values of respect, responsibility, compassion, justice, tolerance, happiness, and
Gay marriage is a topic that is so often discussed by those with highly diverse opinions. As some people agree with those of the same sex pursuing marriage, others do not seem to feel the same way. This fact can apply to individuals as well as entire countries. Several of these individuals and countries originally agreed with the subject of gay marriage as others were required to be forced due to the fact that their ban on gay marriage was decided as unconstitutional. Same-sex marriage is a controversial issue in today's world where some choose to agree with the decision of homosexual people and some choose to oppose it, all doing so usually for different reasons.
Family values are ideals that are learned traditionally in a family and are reinforced within the familial unit. Family values can be very diverse between different cultures. Some of these family values are the way children are raised, discipline, gender roles in the family, and the way families choose to live.
In a very real sense, it is reasonable to argue that the government should have no say at all in the processes of marriage, or decide which adults may or may not legally marry. State and federal governments play a role, of course, in that marriage is a civil union, and provides benefits and legal protections for the couple. Historically, marriage serves the interests of the society by promoting stability and future generations of citizens, and governments usually act in ways to promote this very vital element. At the same time, it is highly questionable whether this governmental authority should have any voice in who chooses to marry, provided those involved are adults and wish to do so. This is in fact, at the heart of the same-sex
“The freedom to marry has long been recognized as one of the vital personal rights
Homosexual marriage is one of the old but controversial issues around the world. Compared to the past, it seems to become a more open debate among people. At the same time, people seem to be more swayable than before, but towards the gay marriage, different voices have still been hovering in the air. Gay people and their supporters have been striving for their rights to get married legally, while others who against gay marriage have never stopped deterring it.
The majority of people who oppose gay marriage are religious conservative groups and people who believe in keeping marriage a sacred thing between a man and a woman. While this may be their belief system, this country was founded on religious freedom, where the people are allowed to worship how they see fit. A ground rule, set up from the beginning, states that separation needs to be made between religion and government, so the two shall never come together to become a theocracy.
Over time the meaning of the word family changed dramatically including family values. To me family is the people I live with such as my father, mother, sister, and brothers. Family provides support to its members by depending on one another and they teach us how to socialize and function in the society. For example, learning what behaviors or actions society consider as normal. Moreover, types of family that society considers as normal also changed. For example, now families like same sex, conjugal family, and single parent family are considered as normal where in the past nuclear family the only family considered as normal by society.
Children also pose a problem in same-sex marriages. The “standard” family dynamic is challenged because there’s not just one dad who goes to work or one mother who stays home. Labeling themselves and defining their roles in the household is also a task they must overcome. Are both parents referred to as “mom” or “dad”? Legal problems
Gay marriage is a very talked about topic in are country that shouldn’t be ignored. I believe men and women should be able to love freely and not be shamed by it. Marriage is a great factor in the United States. To some people it’s what we live for; is to get married and start a family. To not give everyone the same opportunity to have a happy marriage and family is unlike us. This problem is bringing a lot of hate, the same hate that was used in racial discrimination so why not give gays equal rights like everyone else. Andrew Sullivan wrote a article that shares his experiences of coming out and being accepted. When puberty hit he started to realize he wasn’t the same. He knew that his marriage is not going to be the same as his
Marriage is the legal or religious ceremony that formalizes the decision of two people to live as a married couple. Marriage should not be based on what others think. When people get married in a heterosexual union, they do it for their own happiness, not for the happiness of others. Gay marriage is the same way. Homosexuality has always been around and will continue to exist. Why should homosexuals be denied the rights of heterosexuals? No one has the right to say that homosexuals can not marry. That is discriminating against another group of individuals who want equality. Gay marriage should be accepted; people were made with the capacity to love, no one should try to change that, not the Bible, the Constitution, or anyone.
In addition, marriage is a religious rite. “Gay marriage is not compatible with the beliefs, sacred texts, and traditions of many religious groups” (ProCon.org, 2011, Con Gay Marriage, ¶4). In fact, we know that most of the religions are opposing same-sex marriage, because they are always guided by the Bible and God’s commandments and his teachings. “Marriage was established by the Creator with its own nature, essential properties and purpose. No ideology can erase from the human spirit the certainty that marriage exists solely between a man and a woman” (ProCon.org, 2011, Con Gay Marriage, ¶12). If same-sex is legalized, churches and other religious institutions would be forced to change their rules in order to marry same-sex marriage couples.
As the society changing, the history of marriage also changes. Marriage is legally recognized union of two people as partners in a personal relationship, but do those two partners always have to be a man and a woman? Most people believe that homosexuals should be granted equal rights as heterosexual couples. Being as an important social issue, same-sex marriage has become a hot topic of public debates in the recent years. For over the past decade, public support for the same-sex marriage has quickly risen. The United States is one of over twenty countries that allow gay and lesbian couples to wed. I believe that same-sex marriage should be legalized in all countries for several reasons, such as being an issue of equal rights, separation of church and state, no negative effect on the heterosexual communities, increasing in child adoption, and decreasing divorce and suicide rates.
Family is the initial force of security for human personality and vital characteristic in their survival, security, health, schooling and growth. Family brings a sense of emotional bonding, socialization and care. Family values include ideas like: respect for parental authority, stability in marriages, chastity before and outside marriage and care for the elderly.
Same-sex marriage, otherwise called gay marriage, will be marriage between individuals of a similar sex, either as a common service or in a religious setting. The term marriage correspondence alludes to a political status in which same-sex marriage and inverse sex marriage are thought about lawfully equivalent.
Family Values are derived from the fundamental beliefs of the parents, who use them to educate their children. These are the basic principles and guidelines of our original behavior in society, and are conveyed through our behaviors in the family, from the simplest to the most complex.
