Globalization is defined as “a process that encompasses the causes, course, and consequences of transnational and transcultural integration of human and non-human activities.” (Al-Rodhan and Stoudmann, 2006).
On the other hand, globalization has various definitions, which composes of many factors. First, globalization can be explained as advances in technology, such as phones, airplanes, Internet, which has made transportion and communication networks possible. This implies that people can exchange goods and services in different countries more quickly and easily. Furthermore, globalization can mean the world coming together as one. Close attention was paid to what Osama was saying and how he portrayed himself. Even though he was not in favor of “modernity and secularism,” (Steger, Manfred B, 2003) it was made clear through his way of dressing and the background image. The way he wore the military outfit over his traditional Arab garment, shows economic and cultural globalization. Wikipedia defines economic globalization as world economies depending on each other due to an increase in trade of goods and services across international borders, while cultural globalization refers to the build up of social relations by spreading ideas and values around the world. These two explanations express how Osama contradicts himself just by clothes he wore, the sporty Timex watch and the AK-47 behind him it is certain that this gun was probably imported from china, all this moreover shows different cultural forms. This reveals globalization. Furthermore, the video was broadcast internationally only after a few hours of delivery. This shows how the “chain of global interdependences and interconnections exist to enable the broadcast of Bin Laden’s speech to a global audience”(Steger, Manfred B, 2003, p.3). First of all due to globalization diseases are being cured. This is because scientists and doctors are able to come together, communicate and bring new ideas and ways needed to cure all manner of diseases. Moreover, due to the fact that the world is coming together (globalization), English language has become a universally accepted language that is spoken across the world. Due to the fact that the world was coming together, a common language had to be learnt. This was to enable one to communicate with others easily, for a language to become global it must be learnt as a second language in most countries, and also it must be a common language in many important fields (such as science).
