Oscar Casares made Mr. Perez a believable by describing her features “she measured five feet two inches and weighed 164 pounds,” (Casares line14) he also gives us a vivid detailed on how people watched her every time to bowl. In his short story Mr. Perez is the main character who is from a little town called Brownsville’s located in the board of Texas and Mexico. He opens the story with her at the bowling alley where everyone stops to watch her paly, Casares say “the ball’s cherry red and gold swirls made it look as if it were catching fire when released down the lane… People stopped to watch when she was up” (Casares line 2-4) in which the reader fells as if they can see her roll her ball. Throughout the text Casares tells us the importance of the bowling ball. Perez a believable character this because he wants the reader to know why she became who she is and to know about how Brownsville has also shaped her character. The text states “her living room was a testament… her coffee table and bookcase held her trophy’s,” every time she walked into her living room it reminded her of all her hard work and the joy she felt when she won the trophy. When she remaindered all of her wins she thought about how the teenager stole her ball and she felt like she was never going to be able to win without her cherry red ball. In conclusion, Oscar Casares made Mrs. Perez represent Brownsville by the way he used Spanish in his text and by focusing on her life in Brownsville. He wanted the readers to know that it was a town filled with people who are full of life and enjoy the little thigs in life.
