Everyone disobeys at one point in their life. They either lie to their parents or hide something from a friend or talk back to a teacher. No one in the world is perfect. In 1891,an Irish author by the name of Oscar Wilde once stated,” Disobedience, in the eyes of anyone who has read history, is man’s original virtue. It is through disobedience that progress has been made and through rebellion.” Oscar Wilde defended that disobedience is a beneficial human trait and it boosts social progress. Disobedience is indeed a valuable human characteristic because it could lead to individuals to stand up for what they believe in, learn right from wrong, and allows society to progress.

If Martin Luther King Jr. never stood up for the rights of African-Americans, they wouldn’t be considered equals. Even though he disobeyed the law, King was standing up for what he believed in.Without Martin Luther King, no one would have stood up for the African-Americans. Despite the fact that he got arrested, people, even white people, begun to become influenced by his protests and his speeches, especially his I Have A Dream speech. King disobeyed many laws and even went to jail.All of that was to progress society. He knew what the consequences of civil disobedience was, but to him none of those consequences mattered because he knew that if he were to keep on going and get his voice out there, society will change. Rosa Parks stood up for her beliefs. She refused to stand up on the bus for a white person. She broke the law, the police arrested her, America had heard what she did, and is now looked at as a Civil Rights heroine. Their actions brought this country together as one. Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., and many others are now viewed as the reason for progressive societies. Without them disobeying the law and speaking out against authorities societies in America and in many other countries around the world would be completely different. If a boy were to pull his sister’s hair right in front of his mother, she would yell and punish him for what he did. From then on, he would know not to pull his sister’s hair. Look at all the inmates who get out of jail and start a whole new life without even thinking about going back to the life they had before being imprisoned. Scientist conducted a twenty year prison study to see how many prisoners went back to jail. They concluded that with treatment could result in a twenty one percent difference in the incarceration rate. This is the equivalent to 147,000 released offenders each year. This also led them to conclude that roughly 2,940,000 released offenders over twenty years would not go back to prison. This is because they disobeyed the law, went to jail, learned their lesson with some help of others or a treatment plan, and realized they were never going to go back. That shows how the action they once thought to be right was actually wrong. Not only is it past offenders but it could be adults. For example, an individual is entering a new job and it is their first of work. They enter with clothing that is work appropriate but it is not apart of the work’s uniform. The worker disobeyed the job’s dress code, but learned the right time to wear certain clothing and when not to. Disobedience taught them to learn what is right and what is
