Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank To begin with, a character I would consider a best friend is Otto Frank, because of his generous nature. Otto Frank is perceived as a strong leader and role model in Anne’s eyes. He is very highly respected by Anne and many others. When hiding in the secret annex, Otto provides protection and tutelage for many citizenry. The narration takes place during the Holocaust when the Nazis invade Europe. The Franks, a Jewish family, are greatly threatened by the current events. In addition, bound by restrictions, many necessities are poor quality, scarce or not usable. Meanwhile , the Franks suffer the threat of concentration camps. Later, …show more content…
Towards the beginning of the book, the Frank family is readying for the effects of the Holocaust. Otto Frank considers taking his family into hiding. When explaining the situation to Anne, Otto states, “ ‘Yes, Anne,” he said, “ you know that we have been taking food, clothes, furniture to other people for more than a year now. (Frank,12). This quote proves Otto’s generosity. Presently, numerous restrictions apply to Jewish households. The situation is growing tense and war is soon approaching. This means that food and utility shortage is inevitable. Nonetheless, Otto Frank still shares with other families. The author mentions that Otto Frank has been helping people for over a year, so a majority of the Frank’s belongings were given away. Provided he gave so much of his portion to the less fortunate for so long, shows his generosity. I would consider Otto Frank as a best friend because of his giving, benevolent, nature. A generous person means they will constantly help others and provide for those in need . …show more content…
society conflict. The Franks , a Jewish family, are forced into hiding to avoid Nazi persecution and the perils of World War II. By the end of the main character’s life the conflict is not resolved. During the Holocaust many families were captured, tortured, separated and persecuted. Other families were able to go into hiding but were eventually found. But barely any Jews were able to survive the persecution. At the beginning of the diary Anne mentions many of her friends , but they are not mentioned much after the Franks went into hiding. Later in the story when Anne is going to bed she remembers how life was before hiding. The author mentions, “I get frightened when I think of close friends who have now been delivered into the hands of the cruelest brutes that walk the Earth. All because they are Jews.” (54) This quote expresses the main conflict of the story. When remembering her friends Anne feels frightened imagining they are in the hands of the Nazis. This incident affects Anne very deeply. Just the mere thought of her friends affects her very much. When Anne feels frightened about the thought of her friends , it also shows that she has a deep connection to this topic. Besides the fact that she is thinking about her friends, she is also Jewish. This means that she is in great danger as well. Since she could relate to the incident, she is more greatly affected by it. Then , Anne
Ever played a game of hide and seek? Well it was slightly like that for the Franks (A Jewish family living during the Holocaust) except they were forced to play, and if caught the consequences were deadly. The theme of Anne Frank is human growth involves pain, this is the theme because life can’t flow smoothly without a few bumps, there's always a few things you have to get past first. Anne Frank and her family were forced into hiding because they were Jewish, and Jewish people were discriminated against and killed in concentration camps during the Holocaust.
The first part of the diary starts with her being a regular girl having fun and turns into a girl going into hiding with seven other people. In addition, she has to deal with relation problems with her mom, sister, and the people she is in hiding with. The problems begin when eight people are confined in a small area and everybody begins to irritate and annoy one another. Anne was especially concerned with herself and with her attitude towards the others in the group. She's mainly concerned with her mother who always treats her like baby. Mr. Frank tires to ease the quarrels between them by telling Anne to help out more around the house, but Anne stubbornly declines preferring to concentrate more on her studies. She especially gets plenty of confrontations with Mrs. Van Daan who thinks she is a spoiled little girl. Mrs. Van Daan constantly tells Anne’s father, “ If Anne were my daughter.” Anne’s respond to this in her diary was, “Thank heavens I’m not!” Of course
The Author came out with a strong out look on the situation of Anne Franks Development. Anne Frank was a little girl who lived in Amsterdam with her Father, they lived a normal life until the Holocaust took place and for forced Anne into hiding. Sadly the Nazis found out about the Franks hiding and who they were staying with, Otto Frank was they only one who survived. Anne Frank knew that she would even be living a sad and scary life. "Anne’s Voice. I expect I should be describing what it feels like to go into hiding. But I really don’t know yet myself. I only know it’s funny never to be able to go outdoors . .
People can only imagine the terrors that the Jews and other ethnic groups had to go through during the Holocaust in World War II. With Anne Frank’s diary, people can finally put themselves into the scene and captivate all the feelings and sentiments that Anne Frank has poured onto the pages. Anne Frank, her family, and their friends were known for hiding from the German Nazis in the Secret Annex for two years from 1942-1944. Innocent and naive,
Many, many people suffered during the Holocaust war. The Jews in particular were in grave danger. The drama ‘Anne Frank’ outlines so many ways that this historical event caused a shift in the mood of the characters and their relationships. Before the Holocaust, Anne Frank was just an ordinary Jewish girl living in Germany. A German leader named Adolf Hitler developed a plan to destroy the Jews and to rule over the specific places where they lived. What Hitler did to these poor Jews, and the sheer terror they endured at the hands of this Nazi leader is purely unfathomable.
While in hiding, Anne Frank was closed off from the world as she was not allowed to leave the “Secret Annex”. To pass time Anne would read books and wrote in an autograph book she received for her 13th birthday, the book in which she used as a diary described her life in hiding, her various thoughts, and relationships with the members of the Secret Annex in which Anne was hiding in. Before going into hiding, Otto Frank had notified a few of his most trusted workers where they would be hiding. The workers would shortly visit the annex to tend the Franks with necessities such as food and gave news of the war. Although life was hard, their survival from Hitler’s regime seemed promising until in a sudden sad turn of events, one of Otto’s workers
"The Diary of Anne Frank" tells us a story about how her life as a Jew was drastically changing during the Holocaust and the start of World War II (WWII). She was a very intelligent young woman that had hopes and dreams. Anne was a normal teenager trying to find her way in life. All of that changed when the Nuremburg Race Laws were formed. Her father who was a World War I fighter hid his family and friends in a Secret Annex that was blended in with a normal neighborhood. As she lived for months in the Secret Annex, Frank had written her diary, full of her experiences in the Annex. Everything changed though, when she reached the end of her times in the Annex. Hitler's men had found Anne and her family and friends. This memoir adds in to the
To begin, Anne was a selfless, outgoing, and positive young girl that had to live in hiding. Anne was always positive during the time of the war,
“Terrible things are happening outside. At any time of night and day, poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. They’re allowed to take only a knapsack and a little cash with them, and even then, they’re robbed of these possessions on the way. Families are torn apart; men, women and children are separated.”This shown how that the ‘’outside world’’ is so much dangerous because of the terrible holocaust they German’s are causing. Honestly I think Anne’s family is good enough to listen out the dangers coming for them because being isolated at this moment, is the safest. “Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared. Women return from shopping to find their houses sealed, their families gone. The Christians in Holland are also living in fear because their sons are being sent to Germany. Everyone is scared. Every night hundreds of planes pass over Holland on their way to German cities, to sow their bombs on German soil.” Also again this detachment from the world outside of the Annex is greatly safe, not too safe, but safe enough to live. Anne sees how this isolation has contributed to their life and how they survived most of it. Really I isolate myself from my family fighting so I don’t get involved in the brutal yelling, but this war is far worse. “Our freedom was severely restricted by a series of anti-Jewish decrees: Jews were required to wear a yellow star; Jews were required to turn in their bicycles; Jews were forbidden to use streetcars; Jews were forbidden to ride in cars, even their own; Jews were required to do their shopping between 3 and 5
To a large extent, Anne Frank’s diary explains what life was like for Jewish families during the second world war.
The Diary of Anne Frank is a remarkably moving book about the short life of a young girl and her family. The Holocaust was a horrible time for Jewish people and Anne and her Jewish family’s lives were completely turned upside down as a result. The war resulted in the deaths of countless people, mostly innocent people. Before the invasion on D-day and the end of the war not too long after, the rest of the world didn’t know the real disaster going on over seas. Anne Frank’s once secret diary has introduced the immense suffering and horror that occurred during the Holocaust.
The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank is organized in chronological order and include the dates important to the Jewish author. On Anne’s thirteenth birthday, she receives a diary she calls “Kitty,” and this is where she records events that happened to her. Anne includes writings about her brief normal life and the life in the “Secret Annex.” She and her family are hiding from the Gestapo during WWII. As the story progresses, more Jews join the Franks. There is great conflict between Anne and the rest of the residents, though sometimes her father is “darling.” After a little more than two years in hiding, the German police discovered the secret Jews and sent them into labor camps, where Otto Frank was the only survivor. Anne matures and finds Peter at her side, even though there is tension between the other Van Daans and herself. Not only is there conflict between Mrs. Van Daan, but with Anne’s own mother and her roommate, Mr. Dussel.
Not even a month following her thirteenth birthday, Anne got the shocking news that Margot, her 16 year old sister, had been ordered to report to a work camp in Germany. Afterward, Anne and the rest of her family secretly moved to an Annex behind her father’s business. She could no longer go to school, get together with friends, or go out at all. Some of her father’s last employees would come and accommodate them by giving them left over food and water at any time they could, but it was not enough to feed the four Franks, the three Van Pels', and a man they welcomed in 1942, Fritz Pfeffer. The occupants were not to make noise, the slightest sound or even a glimpse of a person through a window could give them away. The windows were not to be open let alone looked through, and toilets were only to be flushed at the safest times when there was no sign of life. The children were homeschooled whenever possible and only had their other companions as company. “My mind boggles at the profanity this honorable house has had to endure in the past month… To tell you the truth, I sometimes forget who we're at odds with and who we're not” (Frank
During the devastating time of World War II, a Jewish teenage girl wrote a diary about the gruesome events she witnessed, this diary was named, Diary of a Young Girl, Anne Frank. Anne Frank lived in Holland and went into hiding when her sister, Margot, got a letter to go to a reception camp. The Franks faced terrifying moments during hiding. They witnessed war outside their window and stayed in the same house without even going outside for about two years. To add on, the Franks had to keep in mind how every day they could be arrested or even die. Sadly Anne and her family are arrested and are sent to Auschwitz, a concentration camp where she would later die. While in hiding, the Franks and the Van Daans, who were also in hiding with them,
Do you ever get mad when your parents say you can’t do something or go anywhere? Well, imagine how Anne feels being isolated in that room all day long, every day. The story "Diary of Ann Frank" reveals what it’s like to transition from childhood to adulthood in the modern life. The theme of the story is living in oppression and how it affects Anne as a person, both physically and emotionally. For two years, Anne and her family along with another family are locked up in hiding in a secret loft. “The diary of Anne Frank” shows us that sometimes family is all we got but we have to make the best of it and be thankful we have our family. Anne Frank quoted “we all eat and read like one family” (page 230) This statement tells us that no matter what
