Outstanding Teacher, Anyone?
By Allan Moore S. Cabrillas
Master Teacher I – San Jose West Central School San Jose City
As the whole world salutes the modern-day heroes in the school, here are some characteristics that really define the teacher. If one possesses these, he or she can contribute a lot to children, to their fellow teachers, to the community, and to the field of education. While there is no static formula for what makes an outstanding teacher, these personality traits help form the essential foundation for succeeding – as a teacher and as a leader.
1. Compassionate
The best teachers are patient, understanding, and kind. They can put themselves in their students' shoes and imagine what the students are thinking and

Instead of finding this process exhausting or frustrating, these educators come to enjoy the unknowns and enigmas that crop up each school year because they get to apply their creative problem-solving skills in fresh ways on an ongoing basis.
7. Optimistic
Don't even think about becoming a teacher if you are a "glass half empty" type of person. The concept of self-fulfilling prophecy plays a huge role in teaching because teacher expectations often determine student outcomes. In other words, good teachers know that their students will only succeed to the extent that they are encouraged and believed in. By approaching each learner with only the highest of expectations, these educators visualize learner success long before it actually occurs. This is one of the most magical aspects of being a teacher.
8. Flexible
There is no such thing as a "typical" day in the life of a classroom teacher. Thus, good teachers approach each day with an open mind and a sense of humor. They aren't easily discouraged by bumps in the road or hiccups in the schedule, whether these issues are big or small. With a multitude of factors impacting every minute of the day, strong educators must be willing to bend when necessary, with a smile.
9. Committed to Service Teaching also involves varied relationships among various individuals. A teacher must know how to work effectively not only with
There are many characteristics that are necessary for teachers to have. First, it’s important for teachers to be vastly knowledgeable about their subject matter. Teachers need to be enthusiastic about whatever they are teaching, especially if they want to sustain students' interest. If the teacher isn't interested in the subject, why should the students? Educators should always be willing to learn all they can about the content in which they are teaching—making the content as relevant or interesting as possible. Another characteristic that is vital in a teacher is having respect for students. Showing respect towards students means valuing each student’s ideas and opinions. It also means exemplifying respect for
Outstanding teachers are respected by students, faculty and families and are professional when performing all duties and communicating with students, faculty and families. When dealing with families a teacher must be understanding and empathic of students' diagnosis and family life challenges. An outstanding teacher needs to be open-minded to others ideas and theories and to changes. You also need to be consistent to provide stability to your students, as well as know the content that you are teaching. An outstanding teacher has to be able to be organized, patient, ask for help and participate in professional development to learn new techniques to grow and learn and stay up to date with new findings. An outstanding educator needs to encourage students to push themselves, reach their potential, show them that you have confidence in them and give them acceptance to be who they are, inspire students by showing them a love for learning so that they will have a love for learning and being in school and a teacher needs to have drive and passion to make students reach their full potential and putting in extra hours to make sure your students are
Teaching is an extremely important profession as we are responsible for training up the future generations of our community, country and in effect, the world. In order to be a successful and effective teacher there are some basic skills and competencies that one must possess. The experiences that students have inside (and outside) our classrooms, schools and various other institutes will shape and mould their approach to our subjects and to life in general. Therefore, it requires a certain level of skill and training to be deemed professionally fit to enter into this career path and even then, continuous
Outstanding teachers know their stuff! They know what they are teaching and how to teach it so that students will understand and be able to use their knowledge in multiple contexts.
A fellow educator would hear these answers as examples of the teacher’s ability to engage students in every lesson, her desire for all students to succeed, and her competence in subject matter. Although an outstanding educator exudes many other characteristics, these three qualities are essential for one to be considered an outstanding, high-quality teacher.
I believe good teachers are enthusiastic and capable of conveying their enthusiasm to students; constantly look for ways of improving their teaching and trying to keep abreast of developments in their subjects; and are sufficiently mindful and self-aware to be able to laugh at themselves.
What is a good teacher? A good teacher is a immeasurably valuable factor in someone’s education. Of course there are many different types of teacher in life, but in this case I am referring to a classroom teacher. First and foremost a teacher must be there because they want to teach, not just
There are many qualities and skills that make a good teacher, some I have is my dedication, time keeping skills, reliability and being responsible. I think my dedication is my best quality because it is important to be passionate and committed to what you’re doing, if you are then you will do a better job and create a positive atmosphere, the children will sense that you want to be there and help them. One thing I could work on more is my compassion and and how I comfort an upset child, I am getting better as I get to know each child
When reflecting on what makes an outstanding educator, so many qualities came to mind. Educators have to take on so many roles each and every day, which made distinguishing the most important qualities more difficult. There are so many qualities that a teacher needs to contain to be considered an outstanding educator, but in my opinion, there are four qualities that are the most important and umbrella the many other qualities an educator should have. These four qualities include being compassionate, knowledgeable and flexible. Every outstanding educator has the honor to impact a student’s life each and every day by what they are teaching them but more importantly how they care about them.
What makes a good teacher? While many people may have certain credentials and can make list out of these. The teacher must have a strong connection with his students, energetic enthusiastic, the list can go on. Hal Urban has done this by writing the book, The Classroom: 20 things Good Teachers Do. As future educators it is important for us to reflect, and remember our roots of where we came from and the different techniques both positive and negative that our teachers used in the classroom. Not only does this help us grow as educators, but it helps us learn the importance of the kind of environment we want to create in the classroom.
This past semesters has been an eye opening experience that has changed my views on teacher. Ever since I was little, I have always wanted to be a fourth grade teacher. However after being placed in a second grade classroom my views have changed. I liked the idea of teaching fourth grade because my fourth grade teacher was my inspiration in life. When I was in Ms. Petro’s class I enjoyed being able to watch the students progress over time. Being able to see the drastic improvements in little children is very rewarding and that is why I want to continue to teach lower grades. I have learned that being a teacher requires a special someone, a person who knows that sometimes you will have to deal with tough situations leaving you exhausted and feeling like you are not able to help more. But at the same time, being a teacher allows one to be a visionary for the world and those who surround you.
Teaching is a difficult occupation. Teachers play an important part in training children, teenagers… So, a good teacher must have some special qualities. They are: knowledge, creation, confidence, empathy, sense of humor and passion.
The qualities I would have as an effective teacher is the knowledge and skills and the
Being a teacher is not an easy task as many people could think. To be a teacher does not only imply to know the subject to be taught, it also includes being willing to constantly improve oneself integrally, as much as updating the resources and materials one uses in teaching. Reflecting and analyzing over and over again the best way to teach to learn and how to make students to extend what has been learned. The many hours spend in the classroom will never be enough to plan lessons, prepare materials, review pupils tasks and exams, as well, all the administrative requirements one has to cover for whatever institution we work. Besides all this a good teacher, a professional one, will have to find the time to keep preparing to improve
Quality of teaching is a crucial factor in promoting effective learning in schools. Effective teaching requires well-rounded instructors who are confident in the material they teach as well as their own skin. Students have a keen ability to sense if a teacher is nervous, unsure or lying. Being genuine is one of the most important personal characteristics that a teacher can possess. There are other personal and professional characteristics as well that are necessary for effective teaching.
