Playing sports is a privilege not a must. Some kids are being forced to play a certain sport as children so that they would be good at it when they get older. This forces students to play a certain sport and increase the chance of overuse injuries. Their overuse injuries are caused by too much activity on a single joint or body part. Even though sports are fun, this is ruining a player's chance of success in the future because person's body is not meant for constant activity. Different types of stress such as time management, getting homework done, pleasing parents, etc is what some students unfortunately go through. Although things such as time management is a struggle, students eventually learn how to handle these situations. They adapt certain skill that will also be beneficial later in their lives. Sports are a popular pastime among all ages and types of people. People not only participate in them for fun, but also for money, physical fitness, rush of competition, and for many other personal reasons. Playing sports is especially common among young people in schools. Athletics are great and enjoyable for many reasons, but there can be a point where sports participation can go too far and become negative for children and adults. Sports specialization for young people is an increasing trend that results in sports having a negative impact on individuals and society.
Sports are not for everybody, not only because of talent level, but because a certain mindset is to be had to be successful at any sport. A commitment is made. Forty hours of practice a week, the average amount of time spent practicing for football players, all for a one hour game, the average time of one game of college football, takes dedication. That is not even counting the time spent icing, resting, and studying the playbook or film, not to mention the school work to be kept up with for college and high school students. Most athletes have become used to the grind and juggling three or four time consuming activities all at one time while being successful at each. Waking up at the break of dawn, following a schedule, and suffering consequences when a bad choice is made creates character and discipline that is often needed for many little league, high school, and college athletes. The most important non tangible thing sports teach anyone is how to get back up after falling, how to get knocked down but get right back up and keep going, how to move on from failure and overcome it, focusing on the next important part of life. I believe that all students that is currently attending a high school should play at least one sport a year. I believe that because kids today are so occupied on their phone, and other apps that they do not go outside and play. In other words, Unicef believes that sports assist an individual in all aspects of life, whether it is physical, mental, or life skills oriented. Simply put, participating in a sport has multiple benefits that can be applied to everyday life. For this exact reason, sports should be implemented mandatory in public schools. Although some parents believe that sports have more consequences than benefits, the physical activity included in athletics is proven to increase child health. I assert that sports should be mandatory in public schools because it offers benefits that children should not go without. I wholeheartedly endorse the making a student participate in at least one sport can benefit a student 's mental and physical health, grades, and school attendance.
Overuse injury is most common in sports people as it is an injury that occurs due to the muscles being used with not enough rest in between to allow for repair. The muscles are put under too much stress and repetitive use causes the injuries. The only cure for such injury is to rest, however, no sports person wants to hear this, so they will continue, especially if they are a professional. However, if the individual can continue to exercise and use different muscles or parts of the body where the injury is, this will help considerably. For example a tennis player with tennis elbow could start running or cycling were the upper body is not used as much.
