What is a graphic Designer? What do they do? What makes them important? A graphic designer designs items such as; logos, billboards, pamphlets, and other promotional print and digital art work. Graphic Designers can work in just about any field or place of business due to the high demand for promotional items. A graphic designer can work for a company, freelance or both. The job requires talking with clients, computer software, and getting quality products in a timely fashion. The United States Department of labor describes a graphic designer as, “Graphic designers create visual concepts, by hand or using computer software, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate consumers. Throughout time there has been innovators who have changed the face of how things are marketed and presented. Graphic Designer is a fast growing job industry, currently projected to increase 13% in the next ten years (summary). The start of graphic Design started from the beginning of time and I believe will be around for as long as the world needs digital graphics. Graphic Design is a very broad job field; that are in just about every career and cooperation. According to Computer Training Schools, the top three companies are: Microsoft, Google and Yahoo. While the top places for Graphic Designers are located in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles (Graphic Designer Training). According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics as of 2010 the average income was estimated at $43,500 per year, data are from the BLS Occupational Employment Statistics survey. The income varies depending on the city and level of experience by the designer., as well as the reputation of the business.
The education level require, according to careers-internet, is “Two degrees, the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (BFA) or the Bachelor of Arts degree (BA), are typically at the culmination of four-year programs. The two-year programs generally lead to an Associate of Arts degree.” The top few schools in the United States are: Rhode Island School of Design, Yale University, Maryland Institute College of Art, Carnegie Mellon University, and Virginia
