Pain In Medea's Argumentative Essay

Sometimes, it is easy to have been broken by someone, so that you can believe in the idea that that person deserves a lot of pain to understand how much they have hurt you. However, this is not how we should think every time we get hurt. As much as no one may like being hurt, pain is inevitable and you cannot stop yourself from entering its path. And no matter how many times you have been hurt, you must always move on because that is best for you to get over your anger toward that person. In the play Medea by Euripides, Medea conveys her hurt toward the man she once loved in many heinous crimes, in order for him to understand her pain. In Medea, Medea is aggravated with the news of Jason’s wedding. Medea states, “Oh, may I see Jason and his bride Ground to pieces in their shattered palace” (22). Medea feels that after everything she had done to be with the one she loved, she had been paid the favor back unfairly. Soon after, Medea begins to think only cruel thoughts about Jason and his bride. However, those thoughts then soon lead to the lives of her children, which may or may not have impact on her reasoning and sanity. But in the process, Medea comes to the realization that she may have to murder her sons, so that they are not taken away from her. In the play, Medea stated, “What makes me cry with pain is the next thing I have to do. I will kill my sons. “(41) Medea does love her children and her sacrifice for them is evident, but Medea hurt others for all the wrong reasons. However, Medea is being selfish by only sacrificing all her kids to something so sinister to wound Jason badly. But overtime Medea will learn, she will only hurt herself in the process of getting
