This project is designed to test how drag affects the speed, and distance of a paper airplane. How does drag affect the speed, and distance of an airplane? This is important because it might help with fuel usage with airplanes. Other people would want to know about it because it could help with fuel usage on airplanes. The more drag a paper airplane has the slower it will go and it will go, and not as far. To do this I will need to understand drag speed and aerodynamics.

My paper is about researching about paper airplane weight. My research question is, How does the weight of a paper airplane affect how far it flies? For this project I need 3 different sheets of paper,(Construction paper,Computer paper,Line paper, a notepad, a meter stick and a pencil. I chose this topic because paper airplanes always interested me in how they move and fly. I am also interested in the aerodynamics of the plane and how it can fly and move around with the air under its wings.

This project was a test to show if we could follow directions. We had to follow a list of steps in order to create a well flying airplane. The steps were very precise and only little error could occur to allow the airplane to fly good. This way, we could make sure we were focusing on the steps to make sure we did perfect on the project. There was a measure of the distance the airplane travelled and a measure of how long the airplane was aloft.

It has always been the dream of mankind wanting to join the birds in the sky, many innovators created various contraptions to achieve flight. On December 17, 1903, two brothers by the name of Wilbur and Orville Wright decided to test their contraption and it was successful. This event changed the course of aviation as the contraption known as Flyer 1 became the first successful powered heavier-than-air flight.

Ever since I was little I was amazed at the ability for a machine to fly. I have always wanted to explore ideas of flight and be able to actually fly. I think I may have found my childhood fantasy in the world of aeronautical engineering. The object of my paper is to give me more insight on my future career as an aeronautical engineer. A pilot does not have to be an aeronautical engineer to learn to fly an airplane. However, it is a good idea to have good knowledge of aerodynamics and flight theory to be able to fly safely. There are four basic components in making an airplane fly, lift, drag, thrust, and weight. All of these work in unison to make a plane stay in the air. If one of the first three is taken out of the equation, gravity and weight will take over and cause the plane to descend. It is up to the pilot to understand how to make them equal in order to keep the airplane in flight or descend at an acceptable rate, in order to safely land the airplane. Since heated air is lighter than cool air, the balloon would rise into the sky. So the hot air balloon is the airplanes’ predecessor because it was the first successful air flight.
