1. Tell me about yourself.
I have a associates of applied science degree in paralegal studies. I will be graduating with my bachelor’s degree in Business Management in December this year. I have spent the last year working as a clerk in a district court. I feel this time has allowed me to developing my understanding of the law on many different platforms including criminal and civil. I feel the diversity of the work I have been doing is a gateway for having an understanding of many facets of the law in Texas.
2. What qualities do you think are most important for a successful paralegal?

I know that this firm started in Houston and has expended to numerous locations. Your firm’s reputation with in the business world precedes itself. The firm emphasizes on protecting its clients is very important to me. I consider myself an advocate for people.
5. Describe your current or most recent job role.
In my current role I serve as a paralegal to the District judge as well as the DA office. I gather information for discovery. I prepare subpoenas. I file motions and submit orders. I resound to emails. I assist in the voir dire process and jury selection. Prepare judgments and keep files. I took the initiative to create a clerks handbook so that we can use it as a training tool. It has proven to be very successful.
6. Why are you looking for a new opportunity now?
Well, I have enjoyed my time greatly in the Clerk’s office and I love being the right arm of the judge I feel my position has even me a good platform to grown from, under normal circumstances I would continue to work there. The role a paralegal has in a law firm is a vital. These professionals are highly valued for the abilities they contribute in the area of knowing the law, legal research and how it applies to a client’s case. Furthermore, paralegals also as assist their Attorneys on a variety of tasks pertaining to a law related matters. Regardless, no matter how knowledgeable the paralegal may be; they are always required to work under the direct supervision of an attorney. There are very little exceptions for paralegals to work in the law field, unsupervised. Even in these exceptions, It is still possible for a professional paralegal, under the supervision of an attorney or not, to still commit UPL (California Legislative Information Business and Professions Code).
My externship at the AG Office exposed me to the interworking’s of a government agency. As an employee of the state every detail is particularly scrutinized and it is of the utmost importance that quality work be exhibited. At the AG Office I continued to impress my supervisors with my diligence, impressive legal research, writing skills, and through drafting legal memorandums and motions in limine. Moreover, I quickly adapted and learned about specific duties entailed upon me as a legal extern, and executed those duties, which included assisting attorneys with discovery proceedings, jury instructions, and any matters arising from preparation of jury trials.
It is a task in itself for one, such as myself, to allow another to fully grasp the principle of why I want to become a paralegal, let alone explain it within three pages without simply stating, “I desire to use the set of skills and passion that I possess in order to help others while working within this specific field of law.” Nevertheless, the reality of the fact is that it is purely the essence and core of why I have the drive and determination to work towards becoming a paralegal.
