After analyzing the argument presented in the two guest columns, “Parenting Education should be mandatory” by Kai Fernandez and “Leave new parent alone,” by Sophie Thomas, Ms. Fernandez’s point of view makes the best argument that parenting education for new parents is necessary.
Firstly, Ms. Fernandez makes her argument in support of parenting education by using the illustration of new drivers obtaining a license. New drivers are equipped with a learner’s permit and instruction, likewise new parents must be equipped with the skills they need. While some people might believe that it’s a “nanny state” stepping on the rights of individuals, but there are basic information about infants and children that every parent is required to know, remarked
Picture this, she is sixteen, overjoyed and excited. That time has come, kicking, screaming, shouting, and crying. Nurses in and out of the room, monitors going off, family standing there as their support system. This describes a typical labor process for most women. What most people do not know is that they are not typically prepared for the worst, or prepared at all. Having a baby is an enormous responsibility that people should be prepared for and educated about. The debate about having these classes in high school has its merits, but ultimately, these classes are too important to discontinue. For several reasons, students should be required to take a parenting class in high school.
This is because in the Hispanic culture mothers are the caregivers. Motherhood is highly valued and families expect women to care for children as well as family members. Their role is to nurture while the husband is at work leaving them with no actual support system. This at times can be difficult for new mothers and mothers who are not aware of the importance of parenting. This program was created to teach mothers about how their behavior can affect their child, understand the importance of parenting skills, and keeping mothers aware that their actions impact their child’s future. The goal of the program is family
Children need guidance to become successful in life. One exceptional man wrote about the wrong type of parenting that causes children to be unproductive. In this article, he talks about how these styles can ruin a child’s life, because they are not being taught to be survive everyday life. Throughout this piece, the audience begins to understand his argument, because he uses many examples and rhetorical questions to persuade the readers. During the reading, he also brings up that severe parents are overprotective, since they think they are helping their children become wise, but they are actually afraid of teaching them about the necessities of the world. Furthermore, he supports his idea by saying things such as the wrong type of parenting
Parenting involves a lot more than just fathering or mothering a child. Often times, genetics don’t play a role in parenting at all anymore. Someone who parents is merely a person who takes on the responsibility of raising a child from a young age to adulthood. This can be through birth, adoption or foster care. Due to the large scale shift in society and offspring over time, I will be using the term “caregiver” to signify any person who consistently cares for a child throughout the rest of this paper. Regardless of the title used, each person ultimately performs the same duties involved with parenting and it is no task easily achieved.
The more help she gets, the better. But [mothers] should be responsible for their own children. They should be the principal caregiver. And if they are not the principal caregiver, then they must try and find someone else who will be. Someone who plays that major role through the child's childhood"
Is there a parenting class for divorce AZ and why should I take it? Am I required to take parenting classes? Will any parenting class do or do I have to go to a specific class? Why do I need to go to a parenting class if I’m a great parent? Does getting divorced suddenly make me a bad parent? What is parent education class and why does Arizona state law require that parents take it when they get divorced?
The aim of this study was to assess the parenting skills among Latinas in Washington height areas, which has largely been the dominion of social learning theorists (e.g., Patterson, 1982). The purpose of this qualitative study was to develop a parenting skills group among the Latino community. In doing so, the researcher hopes to learn and grow from the information gathered by this study. By doing this research study, information concerning parents and their own practices at home will be obtained. This information will enable the parents to observe the dynamics of their own practice, while investigating how to develop others strategies to influence their children's behavior. The goal is to encourage parents to get more involved and learn different parenting strategies, by helping themselves and their children new learning process at home and their surroundings. By the end of this study, I hope to improve parenting skills in the Latino community and their child’s conduct.
Parenting education programs are in high demand for parents who inspire to be and who are already parents. These programs are a positive influence on the attitudes, beliefs, knowledge and skills of parents to help increase the warmth and closeness of their family (Wandschneider, 2014). Educational programs of this kind are easily accessible through the individuals in ones life, streams of social media and even signing up and going to a class (Wandschneider, 2014). A wide variety of programs that are readily available are not highly researched and are created to focus on educating the parents rather than the child. (Wandschneider, 2014). ‘Raising a Thinking Child’ is a program that is both validated and focuses on teaching children.
Over the years, the role of mother in the life of their children has been crucial and prominent. The child’s first education starts at home with their mother. The mother teaches the child how to walk, how to talk, and how to become a strong man or woman in the society. Some mothers will even stop going to work in order to take care of their kids so that they can be a better person and a good citizen.
There are many different types of parents with diverse parenting styles in the world. Some are efficient in their ways, while others struggle to wonder why their child did not turn out to be everything they hoped. The controversial topic of whether the parent knows what is best for their child hangs over the reader’s head in Amy Chua’s article.
While I may be opposed to “required” parents classes, I don’t fail to see the importance of them. In addition, one could also argue that there are safety concerns with uneducated parents, and they too would be correct. Small things like how to put your baby to bed could literally be a matter of death, as well as parents with little to no knowledge on disciplining skills that can sometimes be too harsh, may have long term effects on their children.
Children are the future of the world and need to be nurtured and educated in the best conditions. Thus, parenting is one of the most challenging and admirable responsibilities that people can experience. Parenting plays important roles in the development of children’s characteristics. Some people nurture children depending on their own ways. Others get advice from friends or books. Parenting can be divided into three groups: authoritative, permissive, and democratic parenting.
Parenting class is one of the programs which introduced by National Population and Family Development. The parenting classes play an important role in creating a harmony family and it cannot be neglected by those new parents. Parenting classes are the courses to educate parents to learn about how to take care of their child (Legal Dictionary, 2016). There are various benefits by practicing parenting classes as a compulsory for every new parent. The benefits are reducing parental stress, depression and anxiety, enhance parenting quality, reducing the cases of abuse and neglect of children and socialize with other parents to exchange ideas. However, parenting class are not perfect enough. There is a weakness on parenting classes where the
Raising a child is probably the most important thing a person will ever do in life. Yet we constantly hear stories of child abuse and neglect. What makes a good parent? Is it the money you earn? How about fancy schools? In liberal societies many people decide whether or not they wish to become parents. One of the key questions in making this decision is, what kind of parent will I be? Parenting skills range from excellent all the way to nonexistent. Do you think people with low parenting skills have the right to have children? This has been
“There seems to be only one definite statement one can make about bringing up children- and that is that they should be accepted as individuals in their own right and their differences from their parents and each other tolerated and encouraged.” (Anthony Storr 8). Parenting practices have evolved, and overprotective, or helicopter, parents are the new majority. Parents tend to have the desire to protect their infants, but as they begin to grow parents obsess about the cruel world we live in. Compared to early childhood, during adolescence, there is an increase in the chances that parents will worry more since the problems are larger. Because of this parents tend to overprotect their children causing them to grow dependant, have low self esteem, and have relationship issues. Therefore, parents and children should have more meaningful communications and healthy parenting boundaries should be reinforced.
