Party Slogans

This is the last of the three Party slogans. In the book O’Brian says this slogan can go both ways. He says, “Alone -- free -- the human being is always defeated.” (Orwell, 264) So in this case, being free is slavery to defeat. In war or in a disagreement, if you are alone you will most likely be defeated. There is strength in numbers.Also in this society if people are free to think or do what they want, they are week. By being enslaved by the thoughts and ideas of the party they are made strong.

War-- a horrific way of justifying our actions and the innocent lives that have been lost, but on the other hand has resolved some of the greatest conflicts in history. Not every issue ever raised in this world is resolved through negotiation and discussion, rather sometimes war becomes a necessity for countries to settle disputes. War is a part of how a society strengthens itself politically, socially, and economically however, ultimately it becomes a country’s abusive use of power.

War can be defined as “an active struggle between competing entities. It’s truly hard to tell who is right or wrong during a war. Both sides are fighting for what they believe in and what is true to their heart. In the end there is always two things promised – destruction and death. These two objects can explain the result in every facet of war from the physical to emotional.

Political press can play such crucial role in the viewpoints of citizens; with an impact like this, it is essential to have explicit information. George Orwell’s 1946 essay “Politics and the English Language” he argues that Politicians have manipulated the English language, thus making their points euphemistic. He explains that these that, “...it is broadly true that political writing is bad writing” and results to a politician being “unconscious of what he is saying” (Orwell). Even though this essay was written in 1946, Orwell’s six basic rules are still broken. For instance, Donald Trump’s immigration speech is prime example of what Orwell would conclude as “nonsense”. The speech breaks the elementary rules by using unfamiliar phrases,

War has been present throughout history and plays a major role in power, politics, and glory.

The conflict of war and its effects have been debated throughout history. Some argue that there are other peaceful alternatives besides war that would lead to a better outcome, but in reality this is not the case. War is a natural part of human interactions, and even though it brings death and destruction, war will not cease to exist. Wars are the human way of getting one group to look superior than the other. The idea of a passive approach is ideal, but it is almost nearly impossible and may not always lead to the same outcome as if a war had taken place.

Winston Smith lives in a dystopian society called Oceania where the Party and Big Brother controls and regulates every citizen. During the required morning exercises for his work, Winston contemplates about the powers held by the Party and starts to accumulate such fear. Merely analyzing or disobeying the party in an individual’s thoughts is called “Thoughtcrime” and is punished by death, however, Winston has already accepted his foreboding fate as he starts to see the true corrupting nature of the Party. In this passage, Orwell personifies the Party by implementing human-like actions of a hand forcefully breaking through the barrier of the past. People tried to explain the freedom of what they desire to have. Therefore, many thoughts can be summed up in this idea. There are different types of freedom which can be separated from economic freedom, social freedom and political freedom, moral freedom and so on. However, there are differences can be recognized while they may merely have some common points. Republicans and democrats all believe in the value of liberty, and that can be tell from the core of the competition.

‘War’ as defined by Webster’s Dictionary is a state of open and declared, hostile armed conflict between states or nations. Voltaire—the human personification of the Enlightenment period—says the following: “Famine, plague, and war are the three most famous ingredients of this wretched world…All animals are perpetually at war with each other…Air, earth and water are arenas of destruction. Defining war has been a political issue for centuries, and it poses a philosophical problem. Most philosophers will agree on war being a clash of arms, or a state of mutual tension between nations or states, distinguishing it from open rebellions, riots, and personal violence.

Although the book 1984 portrays a fake society filled with fictional societal members, the book actually represented a lot of what we see in our modern world in 2016. The most similar parallel between society in the book 1984 and current society in 2016 is the Upper Party. They are not similar in how they treat criminals, but they are similar in their philosophy. This essay will analyze why the Upper Party is represented in the very specific way that they are portrayed. In the book 1984, George Orwell presents the Upper Party as rich tyrants, and mysterious in an attempt to raise both your awareness and your dislike for how they run Oceania.

Freedom means living life as one wants, everything else is a form of slavery. If a person is not allowed to make his or hers decisions, if he or she is not free to live life as he/she wants than he/she doesn’t have power over his or her existence. If freedom was not essential for every human being than no one would have found so fiercely for it. If it was not important than today we would not be still fighting to keep and extend our freedom.

George Orwell’s “Nineteen Eighty-four” is a novel that contains many political messages to the world. Orwell felt that part of his role as a writer is to serve as a voice of conscience to our society by trying to express the truth as he saw it. The novel was written in a crucial time period in modern history after the Second World War and at the beginning of the Cold War. One can see that the book was influenced by current events of its time mixed with Orwell’s standpoint.
