I have learnt a lot of important values to be a healthcare provider. As a future pharmacist, we should not only treat diseases of patient, but as well as giving the best in terms of support and comfort. Even I have all the knowledge is there to learn in the medical field, not knowing and understand how a patients feels would not make me the best pharmacist. Communication is the key to every human being to connect, share and learn with each other. As Patch Adams from the movie said, “Every human being has an impact on another”. Be it a random stranger who just makes your day happy or your closest people in supporting you. This quote is very meaningful to me because being a healthcare provider, we should care, give support to patients who need it as well as the best treatment for them. This can impact patients in the positive way. Moreover, it can inspire other people and also make an impact on them as well. Treating patients and making them smile to forget their suffering will definitely give a good feeling. With this, being a pharmacist would not be just performing a job, but to be a pharmacist who makes other life better and inspire
They serve as pillars of wisdom and guidance while exhibiting communication adroitness with care teams and patients to engineer top-notch medical care. To maintain high standards, effective medical professionals are constantly taking in new information through continuing education, placing providers at the pinnacle of knowledge. Moreover, physicians require affective aptitude as they must convey empathy during patient interactions. All these attributes draw me to seek the personal challenge and resulting responsibilities that are demanded. I desire to become an important contribution to society in a field I am passionate
The care that I will give my patient will also involve being empathic. This will enhance the development of the therapeutic relationship that will finally improve the outcomes. Compassion and empathy will make my patients more forthcoming with their symptoms. This yields accurate diagnosis. It also improves care given to patients. The interaction that takes place during this process affects the patient's recovery process. I also intend to cultivate a culture of trust between me and my patients. It has to be there for me to realize effective therapeutic relationship that leads to job satisfaction.
One time, the technician and I helped an elderly woman smile by delivering a last minute prescription. Throughout my internship, I have seen many smiles on patients and pharmacists because of the pain alleviating medications and find it fascinating how the medications will make people feel better. I have learned how impacts can be established with knowledge and every little task like delivering medications contributes to the greater whole of patient care. When shadowing pharmacists and having my drug inquires answered, I have realized that medicinal care involves the drug and the patient’s comfort. Thus, I aspire to be a pharmacist working collaboratively with other health professionals to fulfill health care demands and help patients smile one by one with the same dedication as mother. This has fostered my pursuit toward health sciences to further saturate my knowledge and exposure to different health
As the medical field is growing at a very fast pace, one must always remember that the patient always comes first. After all isn’t helping individuals get healthier in their time of sickness the sole purpose of becoming apart of the medical profession? As a practicing pharmacist, my sole purpose will be to aide all my patient’s needs in whatever way that they need to be assisted in.
The health care industry is an environment that is competitive and expensive. To be a patient receiving care the urgency is high and at a very critical point to trust a team of strangers with your care possibly even your life. On the other side of that coin, treating and interacting with patients is a part of the health care industry because providing care does not end with the physician. In the middle of these two different side of health care is where management steps in and takes over the middle ground.
Open mindedness, a calm demeanor and empathy are key qualities that all physicians share and are strong components that go towards helping others control and overcome sickness. I want to be able to lend a helping hand to anybody regardless of sex, gender, race, age, or health status. True satisifaction is knowing that I was able to positively impact somebody's day or life. Physicians are advocates for public health issues and play a strong public role in the community. I look forward to participating in the community and along the way gaining the trust and developing strong relationships with my coworkers, patients and members of the surrounding
For as long as I could remember, I have seen my father rushing to the hospital in a white coat, answering pagers in the middle of important family conversations and attending night calls even in the most terrible weather. I had always wondered; what could be so important that it belittles every other responsibility in his life. It was only after many years of anguish and protests that it finally made sense to me. This defining moment of realization occurred when I first met a patient in his office. I saw how the gratitude in the patient’s eyes can provide a sense of fulfillment that triumphs all other feelings in the universe. It was human life that was most important. Being a doctor does not make you a mere healer but also gives you the responsibility of a caregiver. I had never felt more proud of my father and that was the day I felt the urge to relive this feeling many times over. It was there in that moment that I decided to pursue a career in medicine.
It is the indescribable bond between patients and their health care providers that drives me to pursue a career as primary care physician assistant. While all health care providers should strive to connect with and relate to their patients, it is the privilege of primary care providers to form close bonds with their patients that they may treat for the rest of their lives.
I quickly recognized I wanted to practice medicine as part of a team and under supervision. However, I still desired sufficient independence with extensive and in-depth training. With this in mind, I began forming opinions about the various careers in healthcare until I came across the PA profession. By shadowing Araya, a PA, at a clinic, I observed how she provided sensitive and comprehensive care to the patients. She took time to explain to the patients their diagnoses in a warm, personable, and comforting attitude, which were all personality traits that I possess. I was extremely pleased of the lengths the PA went to in order to make the patient feel included and taken care of. Prior to this experience, I knew I wanted to construct strong relationships with my future patients and understand and treat patients as a whole. Not only was this palpable within the care Araya provided to her patients, but I now have the opportunity to build relationships with patients as a healthcare volunteer at Jamati Clinic by listening attentively to their main concerns as well as their outlook on their
I believe that through medicine I would be able to put other people’s needs before my own, and continue caring and making a difference in people’s lives. As a newly certified nurse aide (CNA), I have been able to begin this journey. As a CNA, I get to leave work knowing that I directly made an impact on someone else’s life. Not only has becoming a CNA changed my patient’s lives but it has also changed mine for the better. They give me the opportunity to constantly challenge myself, build relationships with them, and develop new skills. In the time that I have been a CNA I have had the opportunity to develop many different qualities including: adaptability, compassion, emotional stability, patience, and problem-solving skills. Each of these skills I find to be important qualities that every PA should
Initially I was preparing for pharmacy school, but I realized that it was not an active profession and the only way I could work with patients is to distribute prescribed drugs to them. I was young and immature and chose a profession based on financial benefit. After graduating with my bachelor’s degree in biology, I decided to explore the medical field by applying for a volunteer position supporting direct patient care at a hospital.
This service learning course has provided me with an insight to core values and characteristics that pharmacists need to possess to become true health care providers. I volunteered at the St. Louis Crisis Nursery this semester for my community outreach portion. My first trips to the Crisis Nursery were filled with initial prejudices and thoughts about how horrible this situation this was going to be. I remember being terrified to get out of my car to walk up to the building, let alone actually interact with these children and parents. The small town I am from, was not socially or ethnically diverse. I also attended a private school where many people we well off financially and I stayed friends with many of these people when I attended High School. I was reluctant to listen to the parent’s stories or honestly, feel any sense of compassion or empathy for them. I felt that they likely put themselves into the situation and that they could get out of it on their own too. However, as I continued to attend volunteering at the nursery, my outlook changed drastically. I actively engaged with the children and formed relationships within the small amount of time I was there. I talked to the parents and began to feel sorry for the situations they were put into. I actually looked forward to my weekly visits to either play outside, read to, or even be a jungle gym for the children. Empathy is something that cannot be taught, but it can be something one can learn- which is exactly my
Developing long-term relationships with patients is what I’m looking forward to as a Family Physician. Through my experiences as a medical student, intern, hospital volunteer, and observer, my most enjoyable moments are those spent listening to the patient. I have learned that communication, empathy and good listening skills, attributes
The plurality of biomedical researchers and engineers dedicate their careers to testing the limits of technology and medicine on the human body. However, as innovations become increasingly provocative, the ethics of biomedical research has become quintessential to moving forward into the future of research. I aspire to become a biomedical engineer, but while many of my classes will teach me the raw skills to become an engineer, I feel that a tutorial with Hunter “Patch” Adams would allow me to delve into the ethics of biomedical research in medicine. Patch Adams has spent his life treating patients with an emphasis on their emotional well being, specifically utilizing humor as a complement to treatment. Throughout my life, I too have used humor
The flow of the medical community is dependent on every person employed there. The harmony it creates does not only come from the doctors or nurses, but the janitors, surgeons, receptionists, and even the pharmacists. Each job is necessary in order for the hospitals to function properly; for instance, the doctors diagnose the patient with their illness, prescribe them medication to cure it, and send them to the pharmacist, who then gives them their medication and sends them home. However, some jobs are overlooked more than others and do not receive the proper credit, like the pharmacist. Pharmacists are recognized for dispensing and sorting drugs, but their jobs help educate patients over their prescription and uphold the
