After I listened to all the assigned videos, I have learned more about how critical thinking is used. The concepts of critical thinking were easy to comprehend. I am currently trying to work on my critical thinking skills by reading, writing, and my communication abilities. I thought I already knew what is critical thinking. Critical thinking helps us find other possibilities in making more positive or negative decisions. In the “What is critical thinking” video, the speaker, Paul Stearns, mentions he was trying to find the Socratic definition of critical thinking. Paul Stearns also mentions that there are many different meanings of critical thinking. His definition was “Critical thinking is the set of intellectual skills and psychological habits we need to solve problems, discover truths, and clearly communicate” (What is critical thinking, 2012). An aspect of storytelling, historians explain the cause and effect in history since something cannot happen. They think of the motive influences that character chose. An aspect of scientist, the historians would make theories and research the evidence available. Aspects of a lawyer, the historians argue their ideas and want others to believe in. In the “Thinking like a sociologist” video, the speaker, Robert Van Krieken, mentions about studying sociology “in much more complexed, nuanced, and interesting ways” to see people and environment (Thinking like a sociologist, 2016). A sociologist could think about the meaning of the genders or gender identity from the older times. He mentions that you could try to discover what is really happening.
