Personal Narrative: A Career As A Sonographer

I want to be part of the Ultrasound program because I realized that where I’m from people don’t consider going into a major like this. I was raised to become a doctor or a nurse it was either of those or your family will be disappointed. I looked at how many doctors and nurses my community has but rarely any ultrasound technicians. I also like to travel to different parts of the world and I would love to have those skills as a ultrasound technician to help those women who are unable to afford to go to a clinic to see if their baby is in good condition. A woman should never have to choose between making a decision about losing her kid, I want to be able to help those women that are struggling daily whether their baby has a health condition or even letting the parents know their baby gender.

I was never a kid that knew who I would become when I grow up. My interests ranged from wanting to become an interior designer to having a strong desire of becoming a pilot. I was often surrounded by healthcare professionals but I never imagined myself striving to become one. Little did I know that I would end up at a stage in my life where I would be sure about pursuing a career in healthcare. Although I have decided on my career path, I have yet to discover a particular field within healthcare that grabs my interest. Diagnostic Medical Sonography is a career that I just learned about this year. I never expected to do anything in the medical field but the more I research about this career, the more it interests me. I love helping people and another career path I have looked at is something in pediatrics. With sonography, I would be able to look at the fetus and make sure everything is fine with the pregnancy. There would be many aspects of this job that I think I would enjoy.

A 1 year degree of certificate for those who can only afford or time willing this career would be a good start. Then, for students leading to high expectations to have bachelor's degree for higher pay rate opportunities is recommended, but a 2 year associates will help you get a good head start to your career. The career that I have chosen is to become a diagnostic medical sonographer. Diagnostic Medical Sonographer’s use imaging equipment that directs waves into a patient’s body and sends echoes to an ultrasound machine which create an image. They help gather sonographic data to diagnose medical conditions and diseases as well as monitor fetal development. Sonographers must be able to perform appropriate procedures and provide anatomical, pathological, and psychological information. Sonographers must be able to provide information about the ultrasounds to the patients and be able to promote good health.

Diagnostic medical sonographers prepare the imaging machine for the patients and the procedure when necessary. Once they have the images they review the results with the doctor and then help the patient understand the results and go over the procedure if needed. Obstetric and gynecologic sonographers take images of pregnant women and track how the baby grows. Pediatric sonographers work with infants and small children to gain images to help understand a birth defect they may have. They work closely with the pediatricians and the caregivers. Most people believe sonography is just an ultrasound for a baby but it can be for so much more like imaging blood vessels, the heart, and skeletal diseases.

The reason I would do Diagnostic Medical Sonographer would be on account of this is what Iv'e wanted to do throughout recent years. I have an enthusiasm for finding out about how to peruse X-Ray's and helping people, as well as specialists figure out where certain infections are. What has always been your dream career growing up? My dream career has been to be a radiologist, but not just any kind of radiologist an X-Ray technician. The outline of a radiologist is very interesting. The statistics stated in my essay will provide more information on X-Ray techs and radiologist in general.

My ambition is to follow a course which combines my two favorite subjects Biology and Physics. I have always been attracted to the medical field because it combines human compassion with knowledge and technology. I am interested in sonography because it allows me to have a direct involvement with patients and it is an ever-evolving field that promises to continue to grow and expand. This allows me to achieve my career goal in Diagnostic Ultrasound.

I would like to become a physician because it is a career that is constantly evolving. As a physician, I would be expected to constantly learn new techniques and information to better care for future patients. I would also enjoy interacting with patients and affecting their lives

Realizing the career that would be right for me. Would likely be a private/criminal investigator. Seeing that I am motivated and committed for a job like this it can become a widely problem-solving, communicational career for me. I’m willing to use my skills to help others in need in the criminal field. Pursuing this career it would allow me to always have something exciting happen daily and always be on my toes. Therefore, this is something that interests me a lot and I know it would be fun for me. As a private investigator, it requires much of schooling, ways to make sure you are a problem solver,and helping people with their cases of criminals and more that can get away from the trouble they had caused.

As I go through my clinical experiences at my clinical sites, I believe that I have the skills and personal qualities that will allow me to succeed in both the radiology program and in a career as a radiology technologist. Every day that I go to a clinical site I learn something different, new, and exciting. I like to observe what different techniques help different people and what helps and makes them easier for me to understand.

Being on the BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography and Imaging has taught me a lot and has prepared me for a career in radiography. A major component of the course is the Radiographic Practice and Image interpretation module, which I feel has personally been the most important module in preparing me for the practical aspect of the job. Part of the module involves spending a lot of time out on clinical placement. For me this has been the most enjoyable part of the placement. In the first year you go out on placement in the second semester. It was during this placement block that I realised that I had chosen the right career. The tutorials and lab sessions prepared me a lot for all my clinical block. I feel that the lecturers spent a lot of time

My top career choice is a neurologist. I have chosen this career because not only is it financially rewarding, I can help people live a better life like I always dreamed of doing as a kid. I want to be the person to be recognized for saving lives. I know that this job would be a lot of hard work, but I think all my time would be worth it saving lives. The brain has always fascinated me since I was little, I was always eager to learn more, and discover more things. I realize that this would be a challenge, but it is a challenge I am up for!
