You know that friend that you try to ignore whenever they wave at you in the hallway? At first they were okay but now it’s embarrassing to be around them in public. The friendship sort of just happened and you don’t know how to let them down easy. Playing an instrument is a similar feeling, at least in my opinion. There’s a reason why I’m not as willing to let people know I’m in the band and play the clarinet. The clarinet isn’t even that bad and I’ve had some good memories in band but people don’t need to know that. They should know the struggle it’s been ever since the beginning. In the third grade band was something everyone wanted to do once they were in fourth grade. It could’ve been from the constant speeches from the music teachers of the advantages of joining band or the …show more content…
That was the first test I ever cheated on...and the only. I had already picked out the instrument I was going to play next year, the flute. When we took the instrument test came I just picked the sounds that sounded like a flute and avoided every other sound.I only wanted to play the flute because my cousin who was one year older than me played the flute. I always looked up to her and wanted to do whatever she did. She was also the reason I got into my favorite thing, running. No matter how hard I tried to play the flute I couldn’t make a sound come out of it. Little did I know my incapability of playing the flute was actually a life saver. There was only one boy who stuck with the flute in elementary school, he was weird. One day the band teacher took some other students who couldn’t play the flute along with myself aside to decide on a new instrument. In simple terms, there are only two reasons I decided on the clarinet. The first was that a girl who I thought was pretty picked the clarinet. The second was that I thought the instrument was a violin. Soon after I came to realization that the clarinet is in fact not a violin. After a successful year I could
One of my main passions in life is music. But I haven’t always been sure that music is the right choice for me. Multiple times since I picked up a clarinet for the first time in fifth grade, I have doubted that I should continue in my school's band program. It was challenging, time consuming, and after all, I didn’t want to play clarinet in the first place. I originally wanted to play the flute, but that dream was quickly shot down during my instrument fitting. It was suggested that I try my hand at clarinet since it appeared to come more naturally to me. So after some deliberation and coaxing from my family, I took the plunge. I had no way of knowing much of an impact that small decision would eventually make on my life.
Going into sixth grade band, I was unsure what instrument I wanted to play, or even if I would enjoy being in band at all. Initially, on the day we were allowed to try out instruments, the trumpet and alto saxophone stood out to me. I first tried to play the trumpet, and I was able to produce a fairly reasonable tone with it. On the other hand, I tried the saxophone, and it made what I described as a "farting noise" at the time. Needless to say, I decided that I wanted to play the trumpet, and I have never regretted that decision.
Imagine yourself as someone who is excelling is everything. Nothing is hard for you! You are smart and talented and there is no such thing as a ‘challenge’. Until, you come across learning something new. This challenges you. You are frustrated and you really want to quit because this isn’t easy. But later, you get more help and you end up being one of the best people at what you do. Guess what? This is the exact same thing that happened to me with my trumpet. But look at me now. I’m in a lot of activities with Band. How did this happen? Well, in this essay, I will tell you about me overcoming my trumpet challenge and a memorable experience in Band.
At the time I had been in band for five years. All of my close friends were in band and we
At Dulles Middle School, there is a great deal of students who apply for Band, each for their own unique reasons. Maybe it’s the music, the competition, or simply just for fun. These are all great reasons. However, the motivation that I find the most compelling that lead me to the school’s Band program was that I could learn how to play an instrument.
When I joined the concert band I joined so I could learn about music so eventually I could make my own music in my free time and I never truly expected to go far in the band; I failed my first playing test. But after a while I started putting some effort into playing, then the next year I heard about an audition for a band that takes only the best students of their grade to form one colossal band. I practiced for four months until the actual audition and the auditioning practice took quite a prolonged time due to the sheer amount of pupils. In the room where I auditioned it was quiet and all you could hear was me. When I was finished, I felt rickety thanks to my rather bland and consequently boring ending. To me, I speculated that I wouldn’t
Entering ninth grade, I had to choose between choir and band as a art block choice. I didn't chose choir because I had stage fright, so my only option was Band. When Instruments were given out, I received
Secondly, as we got our instruments in place we got out our red books and learned a couple of notes. I was a part of the clarinet group and our first notes were C and D. I had the right fingering and got the cue to play the notes. As I played the notes, I was not playing them correctly. The sound that came out was a squeak or sometimes just complete silence. I was hard on myself because everyone else in the class played the notes correctly. After a couple of band classes, I wanted to quit playing my
My friends and I would miss our last class of the day because of band. We would run down to the band room and set up for that day practice. It felt like it was a different world. Something that was different from school and life. Seating in our sets waiting to play the piece in front of us. The rush of being there was the best. Seating next to your friends and playing an instrument we was able to choice because we wanted to play it. My friends and I loved our instrument. The instrument of a reflection of us, describing our personality and character. We all loved the band. We loved making music. In our school, the classes was separated by musical talent. So, my friends and I wanted the school to know the band is the best students in the school. We were better than the class of kids in orchestra, the class of kids in choir, and the class of kids who did not choose a musical group. We were better than them on the playgrounds and in our class grade, but we want to better in than them in performance nights. When the band hit the stage everyone will know that we were the best. The other musical groups are subpar, and we were the best thing you would ever
Growing up with two older sisters I looked up to them as great role models. Whether or not if they realize it, I watched everything they did as they became active members of our local 4-H club and got involved in school. I grew up with early Saturday mornings to watch cross country meets, and late summer nights during the fair. My two sisters have influenced my life in a vast amount of ways, and I am grateful for the valuable lessons they have been able to bestow upon me. Along with watching them get involved in high school, I also watched them purchase their own vehicle. However, little did I know they didn’t own these vehicles as they both received car loans in order to purchase them. Each of my sisters had a different experience with their car loan and they each taught me a different, yet valuable lesson about what to do when I purchase my own car.
So since I had to stay in band I had to deal with going to the band room at lunch. I also had to stay in that cramped sound room in class. But one final day arrived when I was allowed to play with the band! Then I sadly remembered I didn’t know how to play any of the songs. At least I could look at how they played so I could try and copy them so I tried and it sounded as bad as
As we were walking up on the haunted ship everything became cold. “Hello! This is the ship named Queen Mary. This ship has been here ever since the 1800s. It’s told to have over 50 ghosts being seen in the isolation room and in B105. This ship is told to be the most haunted ship ever,” said a lady in a uniform. “Woah, okay, we’re going to be ghost hunting for 3 days here.” I said. The lady's eyes widened. “What?? You guys are going to be in the suite room which has been haunted for over 100 years. I won’t stop you guys but I'm just warning you guys.”
Once there was a single guy and a single girl; in the same class, and hoping to date the other. In foods class, more specifically, of my sophomore year (PrepPh). I talked to many people of my foods class, but never really connected with any of them in particular. Then the seating order changed, and I finally sat with a girl that seemed interesting. I am going to call her Ashley as to not give away her true identity. Ashley, who was a bright and talented girl, was a girl I suddenly had a crush on (ADJ). Ashley and I hit it off quickly and became fast friends in our foods class. At first I thought of her as a talkative and smart individual, which is all I need to be able to have a crush on her. We talked and enjoyed each other’s company in foods
My story begins in the school year of 2010-2011. I was a fifth grader, eleven years of age, at Santa Fe 5/6 Center. As per requirements we had to take a music class, and I knew that I could not sing, so an instrument it was. Most of that year I spent experimenting with wind and string instruments to find out if I belonged in band or orchestra. I was never really interested in any of the wind instrument so I atleast knew I was going to be in orchestra. The year ended with me being skeptical to if I should play an instrument or not.
Here i am rolling in, a jeep grand cherokee srt8 made in 2003. Jeeps just scream adventurous and I love traveling. Now, jeeps aren't known as the safest cars, but I tend to be rebellious and don't always put my safety first when making choices. Just look at me, i am a fairly big SUV with lots of room, but don't make assumptions because you would be surprised by my strength. Strength training and lifting weights are a big part of my life but i also don't have a big intimidating build and i am not so thin either. My windows, tinted. I don't open up my personal life to just anybody, you have to earn my trust and until you can earn it and hop into my car or have me roll my windows down, all you will be looking at is my physical appearance. While you are looking at my physical appearance you may find some scratches and dents. My life hasn't always been happy and dancing in the flowers, times get rough, and life happens which is why you'll see those bumps and scratches, and i have them with pride because it means i made it through those hard times. Another thing you will see is that i'm a black car with neon yellow trim. If You happen to make it into my life and your not just staring at my amazing neon yellow trim, you will know that i have a bold personality and i'm not afraid to show it. Yeah im weird, so yeah my trim will be yellow out of all colors. If we start to make our way into the interior you will have one of the most important features of a car; the gas pedal. Now with
