I have really been enjoying my time at the Hattiesburg Health and Rehab. It saddens me to know that I will be done soon. Although I am just getting to know the new residents here I have grown fond of many of them. Everyone is very friendly and helpful here as well. I believe my favorite unit is the Alzheimer’s unit. The residents on the hall are so loveable. Most of the patients normally sit in the day room while enjoying different activities. Although the nursing home is a great place to experience social work, I believe that I am better off in a faster pace setting. Or perhaps somewhere I can travel throughout the day to make the day go by faster. It tends to get tiresome throughout the day when there isn’t much to do. Perhaps, it is possible
The nursing homes also provide opening hours for resident’s family and friends to come and visit them which prevents social exclusion and isolation. Family and friends can be a vital part of the resident’s emotional and social development.
But now that I am older, and looking at more places that I could possibly work at and careers when I get out of school, I like touring and observing different places. Places whether they be in North Carolina or in South Carolina. This nursing in particular is where a lot of my family and family friends worked and started a career for themselves. A nursing home whose mission statement is, “Bishop Gadsden, a Life Care Retirement Community, embraces God's call to ministry. We affirm positive living for all who live and work here. We serve with integrity. We exercise wise stewardship. We reach out with a generous spirit” (Bishop Gadsden). The foundation for this place is strong and I am definitely looking in doing an internship her in the upcoming
Growing up in rural North Carolina was both a blessing and a curse. My hometown, Fallston, North Carolina, is a tiny town way off the beaten path. Most people speak with a southern accent, are devout christians, vote Republican, think camouflage is a normal fashion pattern, and adore country music. But while I was a child, none of these things were a problem. I never realized how close-minded everyone was or how there were no opportunities for success; I was too concerned with the three most important events of the year: the Fallston FunFest, the Belwood Tractor Pull, and the Cleveland County Fair. However, as I grew older, zeal wore off and reality set in. I started to realize how conservative and restrictive it was. What little Fallston offered,
The greasy scent of cheap burgers and fries wafted into the car as we pulled into the parking lot of a Wendy’s, right in the heart of who-knows-where, East Tennessee. I couldn’t contain my excitement as I rushed my 12-year-old self out of the minivan and into the palace of grease. Clad in ratty sweatpants and a t-shirt with my hair pressed down from my prolonged use of headphones, it was evident that I spent long hours sitting in a car, asking “if we’re there yet” too many times to count. In this moment, however, carving up Snowshoe Mountain on my snowboard didn’t seem as exciting as the machine that stood across the room. Standing tall, shiny, and red, the Coca-Cola Freestyle soda fountains were in the early stages of being released, and
Jessamine County is a great example of how to change school start times. Benefitting from the experience of neighboring Fayette County, Jessamine took its time to organize their efforts in such a way as to transition smoothly into a new schedule for their students. The superintendent of the Jessamine County Schools, Linda France became aware of the literature about the impact of school start times on student health and learning.
The only state I have ever known as home is North Carolina. I was born and raised in Charlotte and the only time I have ever moved away was last year to start a new chapter of my life as a college student. Growing up in Charlotte has had such an impact on what I plan to do with my future. As a young child I always thought of Charlotte as the next best thing to New York City. I shortly realized after visiting that was not quite the case. New York City introduced me to a new world of opportunity.
As the Nursing Home Administrator for (The Bay Nursing Home and Skilled Nursing Home Facility) our beloved local nursing home. I now am in transition, as our nursing home has been acquired by a national group. The result of the new policies that were implemented with regards to the new
You know what is really fun... doing what I did this summer! What I did this summer is go to Tennessee cabins. Tennessee cabins is a huge cabin of choice you stay in for as many nights as you book. The Tennessee cabin I went to was called Majestic springs. Majestics springs had a four jacuzzi baths ,and a hot tub.
On 5/21/16 at approximately 2024 hours, Officer Acosta #0044 and I responded to Huntington Memorial Hospital, (HMH), for a report of a battery. The comments of the call stated, “IN ER RM #18, VIC IS 25 YO MALE ASSAULTED WED AT LA PINTO PARK BY UNK SUSP, ADV HE WAS HIT IN HEAD W/BAT AND HAS A PUNCTURE WOUND TO THE LIP. VICTIM IS EDGAR LARA DOB 10-02-90.”
I never thought a white woman from North Carolina could make a change. Back then, everywhere I went I can feel the town's eyes follow. You don't grow up thinking that your beliefs could/would change. Hell, you grow up thinking much of nothing down here. In North Carolina, the only thing you have time for is making money. So you can buy more time.
Aging is a natural part of life. However, many people struggle to stay active in their golden years. The attentive staff at National Church Residences is committed to the health and overall well-being of their clients and residents. Their senior living community in Chillicothe, OH, has provided safe, affordable, and comfortable housing to seniors for more than 50 years. As innovative leaders in home and health care for the elderly, they work hard to fulfill the social and human needs of older adults.
Scottsdale is where I grew up. It’s where I dressed up and had tea parties with my little brothers. It’s where Hannah Montana taught me how to sing and where Troy Bolton gave me unrealistic expectations of how boys would act in high school. It’s where my two best friends and I decided that we were all going to go to the same college and then we would move into houses that were right next door to each other. We were going to be best friends until the day we die. It’s where I spent the summers swimming and constantly looking like a lobster. Scottsdale is where I fell in love reading thanks to Harry Potter, Tris Prior, and America Singer. It’s where Deal Night was the only thing on my mind and I could not wait to stay up until 3am playing Wii bowling with my whole family. It’s where I learned how to bake with my mom and my brothers. It’s where the sun shines all the time which lead me to get a third degree sunburn while on a Boy Scout camping trip. It’s where I became claustrophobic because of long division at Catalina Island. It’s where my room was covered from floor to ceiling in One Direction posters and where I danced all night to the best song ever.
This week I decided to write about the Beatitudes nursing home in the article “Focusing on Emotions”. This sounds like such a fabulous and positive program for elderly patients who are suffering from dementia.
Entry to an aged care facility is one of the hardest moments of my life. It makes me feel depressed. I feel hollow, and, if it would be possible, I would just remain with my family to the end of my life. Now that I am 87 years old it is going to be so hard to manage myself at home. However, I can assume that the aged care facility is going to be a safe and good place. We will be of the same age and we will also have the same way of thinking. I am not going to be bored because there will be lots of activities which I can do. I hope and pray that the people I am going to meet there will be friendly. I hope staff should be culturally competent and be empathetic towards me. I hope and pray that the carers are going to patient, kind, and have
The first day at the Tamalpais was interesting because I learned a lot about the assisted living residents, the homelike environment, and communication with the patients. The residents at the Tamalpais are independents, strong, and kind. The residents have the capability to perform ADL’s very well like use the restroom, eating, bathing, ect. However, the patient needs help with some IADL like going shopping. It was interesting to learn that the hospital got a grant to hire a CNA to help the residents go shopping. The residents are also very strong, although most of them use standard walkers, because the residents still goes to the activities director for exercises and brain activities. And the residents like to eat in the dining room to eat
