Personal Narrative: My Course In Job Searching In The 21st Century

First I just want to point out the obvious and say that you have an enormous heart. It must be so hard for you meeting these inmates and seeing their potential and most times seeing them revert to their old ways. I think that has to be the most painful part of it all. I know your supervisor once told you “our mission can’t be affected by individual successes or failures.”- Alice Layton. Which is what kept you going. It’s true, but it doesn’t take the sad disappointing feelings away. It’s amazing what you do, but it’s also very hard emotionally. For that I salute you. I love how invested you truly are. That fact that they feel comfortable enough to speak to you about the crimes they have committed is insane. That just goes to show how committed you are to helping them better themselves. Throughout high school, I continuously explored a wide variety of courses in an attempt to figure out what career path I may want to pursue. As senior year drew closer, the business field became more enticing. Furthermore, my aspirations were significantly impacted on the evening of September 14, 2016. I woke up that day and left for school as if it were any other day. After school, I drove to the softball field because we had a game and it just so happened to be Senior Night: the last home game. When it came time for my first at bat, I stepped up to the plate and hit a line drive between the first and second basemen, successfully making it to first base. The next player up to bat hit a double; I rounded second and sprinted for third. I clearly remember my coach kneeling on the ground to signal me to slide into third base. For some unknown reason, I hesitated and slid too late. I knew it was a bad slide, but I was focusing on whether or not I was safe. Then reality set in, I was safe, but I was not physically capable of standing up.

I believe that my competency strengths are teamwork, leadership and communication also referred to as T.L.C. A goal cannot be completed by one person, a leader must not only trust that their team can complete the goal, but trust that they will be able to work together. Communication is also essential for leaders because it helps everyone understand what goals needs to be accomplished and what would be the best way to accomplish the goal. communication is essential because it allows me to form a bond with my team members and get to know everyone's personal strengths and weaknesses. I never this project would have such a big impact on me and my co-wworkers. I also did not realize how one project can bring a community more closer than anyone in the community could imagine.

Caroline, my sister, is the type of person who loves animals and says she wants to save the world. She thinks her jokes are the best, but she’s the only one that laughs. She is always willing to help someone out if they are stuck. She knows how to put a smile on someone's face. Whenever Caroline answers the phone, even if it wakes her from a nap, she always smiles first and then talks. “Because a smile can change any meaning” she always says. She is a 20 year old junior at “UW-Madison for my undergraduate degree in anthropology with certificates in archaeology and classics” (C. Schlinsog, Personal Interview, May 31, 2017). She is very smart, she is taking summer classes so she can graduate early and go on to graduate school. She has a big future ahead of her.

My field experience was in Ms. Felkins third grade classroom at Washington Elementary School. The class there are nineteen students total, nine boys and ten girls. There are two different ethnic groups in the class, four African American students and fifteen white students. Additionally, there are three students who go to a resource room throughout the day for academic instruction. One of the students goes to the resource room for thirty-minute increments throughout the day. Three students go to a small reading group each day to work on reading skills.

On Tuesday 18th, 2017 I interviewed Elizabeth Surprenant the systems Administrator for B. F. Saul Company & Affiliates (Real State Company). Before I decided to interview her, I first targeted the type of occupation that I want to know more information. Economics my targeted major. Due to my interest in economics, I decided to interview Ms. Surprenant, who has a bachelor degree in Accounting and she doubled major in economics. There were 2 degrees of separation between this Ms. Surprenant and me. I contacted her via email and set up a meeting to discuss some details about her occupation.

I worked by myself for the most part, and was given tasks by either Tom Kelly or Eric Dykeman. I was given access to everything that Tom would tell me to do, and that includes seeing billing info, and on the bills I would you tell the company how much they owe the Chamber in dues, I also was to see why they left and complaints that they had. With Eric I would be given tasks like making schedules, finding people to contact for meeting, and to organize how the meeting was going to plan out. Almost every day was different, and there was always something to get done or to visit. I traveled with Eric a lot to the town of Braintree where there would be meeting, and I also traveled to see where they are trying to build more infrastructure. I would

I’m not talking about your spiritual calling, your calling to your God, but rather your calling to a profession, a career. Not merely a job. Something that you have such a passion for that you could almost do it without getting a paycheck – if only you didn’t have bills to pay. Or even small mouths to feed.

Imagine going to the moon without oxygen, that’s how I felt when I moved to a new country during my teenage years, with little to no English, no idea of how the society functions, and clueless about how to speak the native tongue. When I moved to the United States from India, I faced many hardships along the way. One of my biggest roadblocks was making new friends. Being accepted into the classroom by my classmates was a great comparison to how the real world worked, and the real world was a hard place to be accepted in.

“They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapist. ...I'm not just saying Mexicans, I’m talking about people that are from all over [the world] that are killers and rapists and their coming into this country.” These are the disgusting insults that presidential candidate Donald Trump, who plans to build a massive wall around the United States, has recently scratched up to give his new modern definition of what it means to be an illegal immigrant. But despite these allegations, being an illegal immigrant has meant the same thing since the beginning of the history of the United States. An illegal immigrant is a hard working person who has no other choice but to leave the poverty stricken or hostile environment

As I sit on the toilet at 5:02 P.M. waiting for it to be 5:04 to find my answer. Negative or Positive? I walk into my room with the tests in my hand to show my fiancé, his big blue eyes lights up with excitement. I have taken four digital tests all saying negative. This particular test was different, there was a faint positive result! I didn’t think anything of it, because It wasn’t quite time for my period anyway. Soon enough, I would find out how accurate that last test was.

During my field experience, I have had the opportunity to be part of the CSI club, been on duty for lunch and helped out in SSR buddy! All of these different opportunities have given me moments of joy, uncomfortableness, and a sense of purpose!

Ugh! A sink full of dirty dishes. Hours of bending, scrubbing pots, and hearing the chef yell “We need more cups, we need more plates!” Leftover food running down the plates, as I pre-wash with warm water. Food sticking onto my hands and the feeling of hot heat circling the air is unspeakable. Working as a dishwasher in a restaurant was my worst job on the account of my working condition, working for inconsistent number of hours, and the pay only being minimum wage.
