For my first arts experience I chose to attend the Marian University Department of Music Faculty Recital. This production took place on January 24th at 4 pm in the Bishop Chartrand Chapel in Marian Hall. There were 6 performers with the help of Maureen Walton as the accompanist. There were some songs that stood out more than some such as the first piece called Poem. Poem was performed by Jim Larner who played Poem by Charles Tomlinson Griffes (1884-1920) on the flute. This piece was one of his most famous pieces. It is impressive how much music Griffes made considering he only lived 36 years and was worked full time as a teacher ("CHARLES TOMLINSON GRIFFES."). This song stuck out to me, I have never heard a song played only with a flute. The next song to performed with a French horn was by Ashley Cumming, who played Laudatio written by Bernard Krol. This musician was known for making ballads for brass instruments and they were usually solo pieces ("Bernhard Krol (Composer, Arranger) - Short Biography."). Again, this piece stood out, because I have never heard a song performed only …show more content…
It is nice to see that people will still gather to become more cultured. On the back of our program it showed different upcoming events, and there are quite a few them are performing traditional pieces. A way to relate what I learned from this event to something I learned in class would be based on the song Eight Variations on a Theme by Count Waldstein In C, Wo0 67 by Ludwig van Beethoven. The similarity would be that in class we learned about Ludwig van Beethoven. He is known as a transitional composer between the Classical and Romantic Periods of music. I learned that even when Beethoven was alive he was extremely popular; his Moonlight Sonata was a huge hit when it came to sheet-music sales ("Ludwig Van Beethoven
For this concert report I chose to go to a performance of student composers held at the Kimball Recital Hall. I chose this one because I wanted to see some of the talent that my peers have in the music realm, and also it was one of the only concerts I have been able to attend because I usually work at night. It was impressive to hear pieces composed by students. I cannot imagine creating something as complex as a musical composition, much less actually performing it, so this aspect of the concert was particularly awe-inspiring. There was a large attendance, and I think that much of the audience consisted of friends of the composers and/or performers. I went with three friends, who I convinced by telling it would be interesting to see
I attended a Senior Recital performed by Travis Hogue-Smith. This concert took place at Barry University’s chapel on March 28, 2017 at 7:30 PM. The instruments used in this concert are a clarinet, played by Travis Hogue-Smith, and a piano, play Dr. Beverly Coulter. Music from both Romantic and Classical genres were played in this concert.
I consider my involvement with the music department to be the most meaningful extracurricular activity that I have given my time to throughout all four years of my high school career. Not only have I participated in many of the activities we host, I humbly believe that I have also become an ambassador who enhances the morale of my friends, family, and neighbors. Being drum major automatically puts me in a position of ambassadorial duties. However, I have reached out further into the my school and community by leading and organizing a saxophone quartet. We have performed at shopping centers, school ceremonies, concerts, festivals, and by administrative request. I plan on donating the hundreds of dollars we have collected to local charities in
On December 1st I attended The Music at Half-Past concert recital which included five different performances by 5 different instrumental players. All five of these musicians attend Presbyterian College and are extremely talented. The first performance was a piece from composer James Rae called Side Winder. This piece is from the 20th century and is much more modern than the other pieces performed at this recital. It was performed in a monophonic style and major mode. It was an immensely enjoyable performance and I love the jazz sound of the saxophone.
At the age of eight, I had my first piano lesson. I was always in awe watching the church organist play, so I was thrilled when I was given the opportunity to learn. After about two years, I was able to read music. Immediately upon this completed milestone, I was eager to take on the challenge of learning another instrument. The Aber Suzuki Center at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point was the perfect place for me to begin. I took it upon myself to learn how to play and within a couple years I became what some may call “decent.” I had whizzed through the first few books of the Suzuki set, but then things began to interfere with my practicing routine. My other extracurricular activities like hockey and softball took up much of the time that I had used for violin. I never enjoyed practicing but I knew it was the only way I would be able to get to the level that I had wanted to become. My priorities soon become apparent to me and I made time for practicing while still giving time for hockey.
On September 7th at 7:30pm, I attended the Chamber Music Trio Concert at Williams Hall. The three musicians were the cellist Dr. Martin Gueorguiev, the violinist David Harned Johnson, and the pianist Dr. Joanna Kim. In total, they performed four pieces, two duets and two trios, one of which was an original composition by David Johnson himself. Their pieces included a wide range of styles, from upbeat majors to dark, emotional minors and from standard classical to zesty tangos. Having played the piano since third grade and taken music theory, I felt that I was able to resonate better on an emotional and technical level.
As you might know, the musical theater class has started this trimester. I auditioned for the class, and actually was considered one of the people to come back and try out for a main character. However, the class happens to be during sixth hour. I was wondering if on the day that they do the actual the call backs for the main characters if I could go to the class instead of sixth hour. If there is any work that I will have to make up during this time, I will do it on my own. I have talked to some other students who have the same dilemma, an they said that this was the best solution. I was also wondering what they did last year for this problem to be fixed. If I am chosen to be a main character, I would like to ask if I could be in the class
All the points get crossed while I was in my music class, and it is moment when I realize that the light instrumental music can calmed me from hyper impulsive state and gives me the insight and idea while I need to slow down to thinking the solution to handle tricky problems. Even since then, I change my study habit from fixed studying hard to flexibility studying smart, and I will always turn on the light music whenever I need to work on my paper or to looking for solution to approach to solving problem or to relieve my hid pressure from the school and family when I was exhausted.
The concert I attended was called the Brooke Howard, Senior Clarinet Recital on November the 3rd at the Blankenship Recital Hall. The performances consisted of the clarinet, piano, djembe, drum, and a quartet. There were five pieces performed, four of the pieces were classical with one having a more tribal beat with the djembe.
I chose being a music educator because I have always wanted to be a teacher. When I was younger, I used to play “school” with older siblings. I never enjoyed being the student, but I loved being the teacher and teaching them things. They always acted like they did not know what I was talking about even if they did. I have never been able, however, to decide on a subject to teach. Music has been the only subject that, over time, has remained a constant interest in my life. For a period of time, I thought maybe a math teacher, or even a science teacher. Teaching english however has never crossed my mind because while I am good at english for the most part, there are too many parts of english that are hard to me. Band was a whole new world for
On Thursday, May 18th, 2017 I attended a concert at Pierce College Performing Arts Center. This concert as wells as the others at Peirce College Performing Arts Center were sponsored by the Associated Student Organization (ASO). The concert began at one o’clock. The performers were students of the Pierce College Applied Music Program. The Host walked out and briefly talked about how dedicated and talented each student is. The pieces performed varied from time period and style of music. It contained music from Bach to Jojo.
From as far back as I can remember, music has been part of my life. My Mom is very musical and I feel that is one of the reasons I am as well. Whenever I hear You Are My Sunshine I think of my Mom and the lullabies she sang my brother and I as children. One of the best memories I have of singing with my Mom and brother is in the living room on the foot stool. Something about being a little kid and standing atop of the stool made you feel like you were a singer and it was your time to shine! We would each take a turn with the make believe microphone. I specifically remember watching my mom as she danced around the room as she sang to her favorite records that she shared with us. We loved every minute of it!
My short-term goal to become and musical director/musical educator is practicing music theory. When I had researched ways to try and become a professional at practicing music theory I had three goals in mind that I should complete. The three goals were learning to read music notes, learning to conduct, and practicing getting better at acting. In order to learn how to read music I will have to take classes with other teachers and continue to do so until I feel like I have accomplished that goal and then move on to the next. In order to accomplish my second goal which is learning to conduct I would also have to participate in classes and camps to soon become a professional. My last goal is learning to act which I already have a little experimenting
On Wednesday March 1st, the University of Utah performed a concert of chamber music orchestra. This was a concert full with interesting presentations and sound that that energies of nature and relationship with humanity. This concert event was performed at Libby Gardner Hall of University of Utah in Salt Lake City. The guest presenters are four educated musicians from Austria who are called the Minetti Quartet. These were four musicians who each played an instrument. Two were violinist, one Viola, and the last was a Celloist. The event is led from the University of Utah called the Chamber Music Society of Salt Lake City. The concert was an hour long but it will always be a memorable event.
About two weeks ago, there was a concert called Music a la Carte by a the OSU music faculty showcase. The crowd was mixed of people; young and older audiences. There were many performers that performed. The tunes were pleasing and enjoyable to the audience. There were ten songs played in the afternoon.
