There's something about the first week of professional football being back on TV, coinciding with the start of the fall season, that puts a smile on thousands of people's faces. It marks a point where friends, relatives, husbands, and wives can take part in the activity of watching football. One of the best activities associated with watching football during the fall months is to organize a party at your place. This allows for a group of your friends and family to gather around the TV to root on your favorite teams, as well as to help prepare foods for consumption while watching the games. Some of the best foods to prepare or order range from Pizza to Nacho dip and various other finger foods. Overall, a common bond is formed thanks to the joy of being able to hang out with those who …show more content…
Then around 6:00 p.m. the stadium begins to come alive with the sound of thousands of fans beginning their pregame routine. Then, when the ball kicks off the stadium shakes and you can't hear your thoughts over the roar of the crowd! It's a big deal! Coming from that college background joining in with him on Saturday was not hard. I loved cheering for my team and cheering against our arch nemesis in-state rival. Passion was easy to muster for college football. The NFL was another story. I had no allegiance to any team, and frankly did not care one bit about pro-athletes. I found them a bunch of overpaid whiners to decide to strike when they didn't get their way. Then, I had to make the choice to be left on Sunday and Monday or join in. I became a Washington Redskins fan, and I have not looked back since. Sundays became one of my favorite day of the week. We would put on our jerseys and head to our local redskin bar. Strangers became friends, and pitchers were passed around without worrying about who was paying for it. Campbell would connect with Moss for a 55 yard touchdown and the room of burgundy and gold would erupt in "Hail to the Redskins".
Football remains the most popular sport in America and the ninth most popular sport in the world for a reason. Since its creation in 1869, football has played a fundamental part of American society. Every Sunday, my family along with millions of other Americans turn the television to CBS, NBC or FOX to watch their favorite football team go to battle. My family and I bleed burgundy and gold and root for the home team the Washington Redskins. Americans including myself display great intensity and passion for the game of football and the result of the game often changes my attitude for the better or worse. Watching the game on television may come as exhilarating and entertaining, but playing the game creates the best times. Overall football has made a severe impact on many people’s lives. Football teaches unique lessons in a hands on manner which helps athletes like myself sustain a much more adventurous life. Football has made an immeasurably positive influence upon my life, but the sport has its dangers. Football changes lives.
We’ve all had that time in our life that we were ready to give up, or quit because we didn’t care about anything anymore. Life seemed like it was getting to tough and nothing right was happening. This happened to me one time in particular that I can remember. In my senior year of football I had came across an injury in my knee. I had torn my meniscus in my left knee. It was one of the worst pains I had experienced in my life. I thought my final season was over. After learning from the doctor that I could still play but I would have to endure the pain when I played. While we’re in high school we start to get in these situations and have these sorts of feeling such as giving up and not caring what happens to us but that is not the answer to
Last spring the Poland varsity baseball team made it to the state quarterfinals, and I was lucky enough to be a part of it. Before the season started we knew that our team was going to be special. Then was the season went on we showed it. Game after game we blew teams out, twenty to nothing, fifteen to nothing, we were a juggernaut. We had every tool at our advantage, we had hitting fielding and pitching. When our hitting wasn’t doing so well our defense picked them up, and when our fielding wasn’t doing well our hitting picked them up. We were a very hard team to beat. As the regular season came to an end our record was twenty-three to two. Then playoffs came around, and that’s when we really started to hit our stride. The first game of playoffs
I am a football fan. My favorite team is the Green Bay Packers. In my house a couple of weeks ago tension ran high. Why? Well, because my husband is a Cowboys fan and the Packers took them out of the running for the super bowl. Now, this past Sunday my husband was super happy to watch the Falcons beat the Packers, as for me I was devastated. This year the packers started off pretty week. They had a lot of people on the injury list. To see them come back and get as far as they did, I was a proud fan. Some may want to know if I am going to watch the super bowl, since my team is out. Of course I am! It would be un-American not to watch, but at the same time I really just want to see the Falcons lose since they beat the Packers. Let’s talk super
Nine days till Christmas break. Just nine long and exhausting days separating us from sweet, freedom and our own lovely beds! Have you ever thought about how crazy it is for us to be so desperate and excited for a break? We just had one! Thanksgiving was a quick tease for our soon long month of, lets be real, sleeping and Netflix. Thanksgiving was full of food, shopping, sleep, and football. Even if you’re not a huge football fan your Thanksgiving was in some way affected by America’s favorite sport. Whether it was watching your team play, or watching some family member going crazy at the TV, my dad…. Football is a traditional part of our day of thanks. Have you ever thought about what it would be like to be playing in one of those games on
Many American’s truly look forward to the weekends. And why wouldn’t you? You get to be with your family and friends with time off work. But from September until February, there is a certain day that many America’s take such joy in participating in. And I’ll give you a hint: it is not going to church. When football season comes to the United States, many people become more social, often inviting friends and family to enjoy this weekly celebration. But football to many people is more than just a game. It is a social interaction that we as a community take part in. We pay quite a bit of money to attend their games. We watch never-ending commercials to see it at home…and for what?
Since its creation in 1869, football has been a major part of American society. Americans love the intensity and display of sportsmanship on and off the field. Every Sunday almost every television in America is tuned to CBS, NBC or FOX anticipating the opening kickoff for their favorite team. The National Football League, popularly known as just the NFL, is the largest professional American football league in the world. It hosts a total of 32 teams, each representing a state in the U.S. Some states are lucky enough to have more than one team representing different cities. Football season usually gets started around early August with all 32 teams playing at least four exhibition games. These pre-season games are good for introducing rookie
When preparing for this big event, there are certain rituals performed. Some rituals include pre-game talk from sport anchors, buying of apparel, and Super Bowl parties. Sport Anchors go all day discussing other teams that had chances to make it, but most importantly they discuss the two teams playing, their key players, and players that once played for them. At this point, the sport anchors are getting everyone involved with the history of the teams as well as current information about the teams and players to remind fans and viewers. One thing that stood out to me about the preparation of the Super Bowl and the sport anchors were the discussion of Stuart Scott. Stuart Scott was a well-known sport anchor that recently died of cancer. They brought him up and became emotional because of his debt to society, sport, and the cultural of the sport. He was an inspiration to individuals who didn't engage or watch sport on the regular. Even some of the players of the Super Bowl teams discussed how much he had impacted their lives. This shows another level of cultural unity among players and individuals who analyze the sport. Fans are also getting involved by pulling from their closets throwback Jerseys and current player jerseys that contain players of them team they adore. Another activity that everyone can partake in that is performed often are Super Bowl parties. Individuals get together to watch the game and eat typical food such as wings, chips & dip, and drinking beer. Those particular rituals are what brings society together to come and watch the big game. Rituals that bring cultures and people from all walks of life together through the avenue of sports. Sports is one of the greatest platforms in the world. Not only can it can be used for entertainment, but it can also be used to bring cultures together and to unify them into one. Without sports the world would be more divided than ever,
Sports play such a huge role in our society; many people form their lives around watching or playing a certain sport. In my house, when football season starts, my dad and brother watch football religiously every Sunday and Monday. On Sundays some of my dad’s friends come over to watch the game, my mom prepares snacks and lunch for “the guys”. When the game is on they are so interested in it, that they have no idea what is going on around them, I try to talk to my dad when the game is on and he always seems to ignore me. I love how they get so into the game, and cheer really loud and yell at the television. For them like many other people, they have found football to be a hobby,
Sitting in the Same Spot: It never fails. Whenever we get up from our seats, while in the middle of a great game, all of a sudden our worst nightmare occurs. Our team that was once ahead is now behind, or vice versa. This is why we recommend not moving. When things are going well, you definitely want to see every moment of it. You’d be pretty bummed if you missed an epic touchdown. Of course if your favorite team is losing and you decide to fill up your plate with nachos, we won’t blame you.
College football is one of the most energy-packed, exciting, and family based sport in the world. Every year students, families and players all await the start of the season with joy and anxiety. The Ohio State Buckeyes are one of the most legendary teams of all time and their fan base is just as legendary. However, before kickoff even starts, it all gets kicked off with tailgating. Tailgating is what the ultimate college football fans do right before the game. You will be taken on the ride of your life in showing you how to have the ultimate tailgating experience. There are many ways to ensure you of having a great, but if you follow these simple steps your experience will be maximized. Those ways include: getting/preparing the food, putting
For many people, football is not just a sport. The book Friday Night Lights by H.G. Bissinger is set in Odessa, Texas where thousands of people would line up to buy tickets for the Permian Panthers’ football games, not because they enjoyed watching football, but because of the hope and inspiration that resonated throughout the field during a game. Even the players were able to recognize this feeling of invincibility because “whatever they fantasized about, it all seemed possible that day” when they were playing football (24). Football becomes an outlet for the fans that draws the attention away from the complexities of their lives and directs it towards a game that promotes innocence and hope for them. Football transforms Odessa from a bleak, hopeless town into a place where anyone’s wildest
When I was merely five years old, I was fascinated by the sport called football. Back then I may not have necessarily understood the rules of the game, or whether we were winning or losing, but that didn’t matter because all I cared about was dressing up just like everyone in my family did and cheered when they cheered. As I grew up, I began to understand what it meant to be a fan of football, especially for one team in particular. My family, having moved here from Denver Colorado, were lifelong Denver Broncos fans. After growing up in a household filled to the brim with White and Orange John Elway jerseys, stuffed animals of the Denver Broncos mascot that littered my room, even so much as some of the plates I would eat off of had the
Sub-point 1: Football has been a sport I began playing at a very young age, at 10 years old to be exact. It all began when my brother wanted to play a game with his older friends but were short of players, so he invited some of the younger neighborhood kids, myself included, to play. Ever since that one game, we had begun to organize these football games. Just to be clear, these games would take place in our alleyway as it was the closest empty open area. Our games would start roughly around 4pm considering school didn’t end until 2pm and yet still had homework to complete. Either way, we’d play until dark when we were no longer able to see the
Football season has come upon us. The air starts to get cooler, and the fan wear starts to reaper all around us. Football season always brings good laughs and quality times with those you care for. It also brings one of my favorite pass times, tailgating. Great people coming all together making delicious food for everyone to enjoy. In all, it’s just a great time of the year.
