Once upon a time I went to Pensacola, Florida. I say once upon a time but it was really just over the summer. It rained pretty much everyday that we were there and it was hot. Now, I’m not someone to get really deep in the ocean or bay because obviously the animals that live in the ocean. Last time I was in the ocean I was pinched by a crab, and somebody caught some baby sharks that night so I was freaked out. This time the thing that was in the ocean was way too close for comfort and I could see it. I was just swimming along in the designated swimming area, all was good and well. Some fish were jumping out of the water, and of course you don’t think anything of it. It’s a nice sunny day, and everybody is in a good mood. It was me and the
In 2014, I went to Atlanta, Georgia to see my father. I took my cousins with me so they could meet him too. I haven’t seen my father since I was three years old. My mother felt bad about me not really knowing my father and what he was like so I went and and asked my mother if we could go and see him. My mother said, “ yes” because she was on vacation from work since she twisted her ankle in a car crash with my Uncle Seguado.
From childhood to now, going to Florida has played an important part in my relationships, culture, and personality. I think that the trips to Florida started when my little brother was born. Having to take care of two toddlers and an infant and work full time was hard on my parents so, my aunt offered to take me and my sister home with her for a while. Being in Florida was slightly unnerving because my sister and I were alone. We sneaked into each other's beds, comforted one another, and told lame jokes to get rid of homesickness. Eventually, when my little brother was old enough and he joined in on the fun. The three of us had the best times in Florida. We ate foods like Haitian pate, diri ak djon djon, pikliz, fried plantains and other Haitian
After we got off our boat we went to a beautiful aquarium. We saw so many exquisite animals, and some animals, like the snakes were just super creepy. I hated walking through the snake exhibit, it felt as if they were all staring me down, getting ready to strike at me. I swore after that, I would never go anywhere that snakes were.
So it goes kinda like this: The day before I left for Pensacola, I was told "Have an open mind, you don't know who you are going to meet down there", so I went in like I would any other social situation, and just try to keep to myself until I have felt out and become comfortable with the situation. The original plan was to not get close to anyone, especially since it was gonna be a week long thing then we would be done, and we'd all go home and eventually forget about each other, but things went differently. They started off the way I planned, then I got to know you, and I made the mistake of getting attached because quite frankly, you had topped out everyone I'd previously met and I tried to hold out hope that maybe something could work in
I first encountered the ocean in 1958; I was ten. Being a map enthusiast, I knew exactly where Florida was, and I was excited to swim in the salty Atlantic Ocean. Born and raised next to frigid Lake Michigan I understood a large body of water as well as a sandy beach, but no book or encyclopedia prepared me for understanding the flavor or immensity of an ocean and its adjoining shore. Arriving at the beach I raced across the hot pure white sand to keep my feet from burning, stopping in wonder when I saw ocean waves gently caressing a seashore that seemed to go on and on forever. I knew I was somewhere special.
Growing up in Southern Florida is something most people don’t experience with a sun shining brightly every day and water canals everywhere I looked, with spacious land to play on in most places it was definitely a great time as a child. I remember going on field trips in my elementary school, to the great Everglades which was something so exciting. Also, remember every Sunday going to the beautiful springs with my family to enjoy the great fresh water coming from underground. Now 16 years have passed, and things don’t look the same anymore going back to the places I grew up in was so exciting to find out there is no more space anymore or land to play on all there is business buildings everywhere and went to the everglades to visit and show my adult friends how wonderful it is to see nature come alive but the experience was nothing like when I was a child the everglades looked destroyed with a bunch of “Welcome to the Everglades” shirt selling places surrounding it and more business building too, it was depressing to see were this beautiful ecosystem went. What I did realize was the
Several years ago, I went to Pensacola State College, and attempted to register for the Medical Information Coder Biller class, but was unsuccessful. The reason being, I could not provide the college with the proper identification they requested. I am a U.S. citizen born and raised, and I could not understand the process at the time. It took me a while to get my voter’s registration updated, and I did not have a driver’s license. This setback would prevent me from registering for any classes at the college.
My best moment was when i went to the Florida Keys over Christmas break in 2015. It was a two week trip just on our way to the Keys. On our way we stopped at the Creation Museum down in Kentucky and we stayed at my grandpa’s house in Maranatha Village down in Sebring Florida. When we finally got down to the Keys i couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. The water was that beautiful blue color and there was nothing but colorful coral and crystal blue water everywhere. When we got to where we were staying it was packed. There were more campers than we could count. The campground was on it’s own little island on the highway. My dad used to work there while my grandpa sang for an audience in the outdoor bar by the pool and hot tub. When i went to
Three years ago, on an early, hot July morning, it was time to begin our trip to Tallahassee and Perdido Key Florida. My parents were buzzing around the entire house to try to finish up the packing, and the last final details such as food, money, and all those things that adults have to worry about before a big trip. My brother, Zach, and I were sitting in my muggy living room with all of our bags watching Spongebob, trying to comprehend how we are possibly going make it through a 16 hour car ride. My parents aren’t too keen on flying, well, actually my mom isn’t too keen on flying. My parents rented a car for us to use on the trip, because my mom didn’t want to add anymore miles on our ten year old van. Basically my parents could not trust
It was five in the morning, and the day was opening up for a good time in Oxford, that would also bring a trip to Florida, the birds were tweeting, the sky was blue, and the animals were all awake and ready for the day! I get dressed and ready, and go downstairs for breakfast. When I reach the kitchen, I look in the cupboards for something to eat. Then when i found what I wanted, i ate it. I was extremely happy and I felt that everything was going perfectly.
As the airplane touched down in sunny Florida, I knew this will be a start to a new life. Stepping out of the airport, I began to take in my new surroundings in the sunshine state. This state is nowhere near New York, the hot weather gluing onto my skin was just dreadful. Glancing around, I noticed a lot of elderly folks taking their sweet time to travel to their destination. Florida is all about driving, which I was not familiar with at that time. Florida drivers are known for driving slow; the light turns green and then they continue to hold back traffic. The weather is horrible humid and unbreathable; especially with hurricanes and tornadoes that are always lurking. Florida is quite tedious; the beaches makes you weary and make you feel
One day we meet our cousins from Colombia off of Facebook. My mom was so excited when we found them because they have known each other since they were young. We started talking for a a few months and finally my mom asked them if they wanted to come to the USA and visit us. My mom said she wanted to meet up in Florida, so we started to plan. I was very nervous when she said we were going to Florida, I didn't want to speak Spanish to them because I was afraid they will make fun of me (really not that fluent in Spanish). After we were done planing our vacation a months later we were ready to go to Florida. When we left for Florida we dropped off my dog (Simba) at my friends and said our goodbyes to Gurnee. The road trip took hours to complete and it was treacherous, but worth it.
The family stops to eat at The Tower for sandwiches. Grandmother enjoy a conversation with Red Sammy, discussing how it’s hard to find a good man, the old days and The Misfit. She received more conversation with him than she had most of the trip to Florida so far.
Sight and hearing are just two of our five senses. Losing only one of them would be awful. How would you react if you were told that you had three days left to see and hear? The problem is that nobody truly appreciates what they have until it’s gone. “Sometimes the best way to appreciate something is to be without it for a while,” -Unknown.
It was the Summer of 2015 and finally school had ended.Almost every summer my family goes to visit my mom’s side of the family they live in Florida. We usually drive there but this year not all of my family were going at the same time so my siblings were to go on plane. As many know Florida is very humid and the scenery was full of palm trees.I was 15 when my siblings and I were going by plane to Florida. The last time I was on a plane was when I was a baby and my parents were with me I hadn’t been on a plane for years and I had a fear of being on a plane.
