Personal Narrative: My Work Ethic

From an early age I was thinking about ethics. At four or five years old I knew how to turn on NPR, and I would build towers and cities with blocks while listening to news of the conflict in Kosovo. Of course at that age I understood very little of it all, but hearing about Slobodan Milošević remains my first encounter with villainy, and I was hooked. My dad especially was a little worried about the impression the news might make on me, so he would often turn the dial of or our stereo to the classical station. As soon as he left the room I would change it back. Seeing no immediate ill effects he eventually let me control the dial myself, and I began to listen to everything public radio had to offer. Most of the things I learned from this experience was a sense of purpose, cooperation, and expansion of knowledge dealing with the various forms of discrimination, as well as oppression. As the semester passed, I felt like I was finally advancing towards a career field that fits me. The topic/subject made it to my list of fields I may want to pursue when I attend a University, which is another benefit gained from my class. Like many other high school students, my mind ponders on the thought of what I truly want to pursue in college, so this was a huge step for me. Oakland Community College gave me the opportunity to test the waters and depict an idea of what attending a University may be like, so that is to say how much one can really learn from an experience like mine. Another thing I learned was that not everything can be done at the last minute, the way you imagined it should be. There should be an excessive amount of planning and thought that goes into completing certain assignments and projects, I remember staying up on some nights just to complete two to four essays. As guilty as I am, sometimes working under pressure motivates and builds my energy up. My legacy began when my family taught me to read. My mom and grandma took turns teaching me different letters and sounds out of an early reader. By the time I reached kindergarten, I read well enough to strengthen my skills on my own. My favorite author from kindergarten was Eric Carle. I brought home Brown Bear Brown Bear so many times that my mother told me I was not allowed to read it again.

I have a petty theft misdemeanor. I was going through a hard time and was trying to get food for my family. I was given a citation and ordered to pay a fine. I am currently in the process of getting my record expunged. I am a honest hard-worker with a strong work ethic. I am a fast learner and very goal oriented. I work well in teams as well as

Frankly, I may not be the smartest, the greatest, or even near perfect student. I do not have straight A’s, a 1600 SAT score, or amazing GPA. Although these accomplishments are impressive, every person has their own academic abilities. What I do know is that I’ve taken 6 AP classes, 3 honors classes, ran cross country, track, and have danced for 3 years. Also, for about 2 years I have worked as a dishwasher and then secretary for my aunt and uncle’s business where I have learned about paying bills, managing checking accounts, and the importance of work. I have maintained in the top 10th percentile of my school, a high GPA, and have worked as a secretary for a local business during vacations. I have used the resources provided for me and taken

1) Tell me about a time when you did repetitive work that required a high degree of accuracy.

Most people would describe me as quiet and laid-back. I would agree with this statement. However, what people don’t see is what goes on behind the scenes. As a result, I believe that my work ethic is what goes unnoticed in my life. During the first half of high school, I was very self-conscious of my physical health. I would always finish last and tire out first during gym class, and was generally unhappy about my appearance. Many of my friends, who were in sports, questioned why I wasn’t on any of the sports teams. The embarrassing truth was that I was just too out of shape and unathletic. I let a lot of this go to my head, and I started feeling ashamed of myself; sort of an odd feeling considering fitness was never a priority in my life.

While some people around me flourish in their athletics, others succeed in their schoolwork. Personally, my most outstanding strength stands as my work ethic. When certain activities do not come naturally for me, I work as hard as possible to get better at them. Multiple instances of this have occurred over the past few years. For example, this year I participated in lacrosse for the first time. I usually spent my time playing soccer, but after a concussion that prevented me from playing again, I decided to give something else a a try. Going into a new sport like lacrosse was initially difficult for me. I had no idea how to play, everyone else had far more advanced skills than I did, and my confidence level started to deflate. Many people have left legacies from when they were alive. Some are good, and some are bad. Those people may not agree with what they have left behind, and some may be perfectly okay with theirs. For me, I would like to leave behind a legacy that shows my family that I was a good person. I would want them to know that I had good intentions for my life and that I wanted to do good for myself and others. In this essay, I will explain what I would like my legacy to be like.

On Tuesday 18th, 2017 I interviewed Elizabeth Surprenant the systems Administrator for B. F. Saul Company & Affiliates (Real State Company). Before I decided to interview her, I first targeted the type of occupation that I want to know more information. Economics my targeted major. Due to my interest in economics, I decided to interview Ms. Surprenant, who has a bachelor degree in Accounting and she doubled major in economics. There were 2 degrees of separation between this Ms. Surprenant and me. I contacted her via email and set up a meeting to discuss some details about her occupation.

Hi there, I hope you’re doing well. As you may have noticed I haven’t been in class lately. You may also have noticed that my work ethic is getting sloppier by the day and that I’m performing poorly in class. This is because I haven’t been in a very good place emotionally lately. In fact I haven’t been, for a long time. But this past month or two, things have become unmanageable for me. For this project I think Merry and I worked extremely well together, and were very collaborative. We were both a part of every step of the process, from booking equipment, to filming to editing. We tried to be good at communicating with one another as things came up, as well stay in touch about our progress. Overall, I think we worked very well as a team, and I look forward to working with Merry in the future.

I would be an outstanding student in Spelman College's faculty classes because I am hard worker. My work has always came first even when I had experienced a big transition in my life I didn't allow that to stop me from doing my work. My work was always a outlet for me to express myself and to show my teachers how I really think. For instance, in my English Composition Class we read a poem called "I Want A Wife by Judy Brady" then we read a book named "Fences by August Wilson", and one day we were in class discussing the poem in the book and it shocked my teacher when I made the connection between the two. I thought my teacher made us read "I want a wife" because in the book "Fences" the main character named Troy expected everything in that

We haven't talked in a while so I thought I send you a quick e-mail. My life has been school, running, sleep, and music! School is going well like all my teachers (for the most part)! I haven't raced yet in cross country because I got sick a few week ago... I am just not getting over it, and I was supposed to have a meet on Saturday, but it was canceled due to horrible course conditions. I have been spending a lot of time producing music... Over this last summer, I got very serious about it. Realistically, I don't think it will be a career field for me, but you never know, and I really enjoy it. I've thought myself a lot, but I think I will be meeting with some actual audio engineers to learn even more. Right now music production

My Resume doesn’t stray from the classic style of resumes to much at least not the first two portions of the resume. Once we get to the bottom of my resume I split my skills into two columns so I could use as much space as possible to define me as a hard working with plenty of experience in design, writing, and communication specifically.
