Playing in the snow during the winter is most kids favorite thing about winter other than getting toys during the holidays. I know as a kid I enjoyed it and I know the dangers of it but they never crossed my mind as I was having fun. For most nothing ever happens to them wasn't one of those kids. As a kid every winter Zack and I would always play in the snow at my Mom’s, Dad’s, Nan’s, or anywhere else.
History has framed the Miracle On Ice as one of those rare sporting achievements that transcend sport. The two hockey games that comprise the “miracle” – the 4-3 win over the mighty Soviets and the 4-2 gold medal clincher against Finland – are credited with lifting Americans from a decade of gloom and despair, reviving patriotism and foreshadowing a national renewal.
Beep! Beep! Beep! I wake up to an alarm screaming in my ear. I smack the alarm to shut the yelling off. It was a January day, in the middle of the cold, brutal winter. I finally got up after sitting in bed for what felt like hours, and looked outside like I do every morning. I noticed that there was no sign of grass to be seen. All that could be seen was white, frozen blanket of thick snow. I started to get ready for the school day and I just prayed that school was going to be canceled. As soon as I was fully ready I stepped outside and my food sunk down a foot and a half below the snow! I could not believe it that school was still open. As soon as I got to my car that was completely covered in snow, my mother comes out and yells that school was closed. I felt a huge wave as release and I ran back inside and went right back to sleep.
Hi guys! This past weekend we were graced with a much needed fall break. After a few weeks of constant studying, it was nice to have a four day weekend to sit back and relax. After my two tests on Friday I drove seven hours to meet my dad and my girlfriend's dad in Pittsfield Illinois for a few day hunting trip at a lease that my dad has. It was a long drive, but it was worth it when I arrived to a 16oz prime rib at one of my favorite restaurants, the Red Dome. Unfortunately the corn and soybeans had not yet been cut around our farm so we did not see as many deer as usual, but we still had fun and relaxed for a few days.
I fell. This felt like I didn’t have a wrist. But I got back up really carefully and went up to the lounge to my dad and sister. Ah, Ah, Dad I think I broke my wrist. No you didn’t. It was swelling up, It hurt so bad I couldn’t even believe this was happening.
The coat of armor I adorned, made of down feathers and a nylon shell, yielded no protection against the daggers of that cold winter air. As I peered out toward the horizon, I saw nothing but tree tops, and some snow capped mountain tops in the distance. With my feet bound to freshly waxed skis, the only thing stronger than my ski poles was my determination to get down the mountain.
After a careful overview of the story, the readers understands that the author point is that in some situations, people should do the nice thing and sacrifice themselves to help others. In the story, “What Happened During the Ice storm” the author uses a mysterious, bittersweet tone, “They stood over the pheasants, turning their own heads, looking at each other each expecting the other to do something” (Heynen 1). The author uses this line to show that any other person would not even stop to think; that any other person would immediately attack. However, putting these lines in the story makes the reader notice how the boys took the time to stop and think
If I was trapped in a snow globe I would play in the snow. I would try to make the best of it. Then, I would try to figure out how to get out. I would bang on the glass. Maybe if I scream the glass would break. No, that wouldn't work I can't scream loud enough. But, if I dig alot I might find a way. Seven hours later……. There is no use. I’m kinda getting hungry and I don't see any food. As I’m trying to get out I see this huge person picks up the globe and starts shaking. I hold onto the tree for dear life while he is shaking the globe. Finally he puts it down. That's the story of when I got stuck in a snow
Over the years, the topic of climate change is discussed more frequently, and virtually everyone has their own stance on it. The source of the changing climate is believed to be from the excess carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere. Since climate change is such a complex topic, experts are often consulted for their vast knowledge in their respected fields. Climate change can be seen in many different parts of nature, but the documentary Chasing Ice focuses mainly on the glacial movement of various patches of ice in many different locations. The documentary is directed by Jeff Orlowski and follows the journey of photographer James Balog and his crew attempting to obtain evidence of climate change. Balog and his team trek through treacherous terrain and environments in order to set up timelapse stations that take pictures of glaciers. The pictures were stitched together to create presentations that would show the effects of climate change. Orlowski uses elements of rhetoric in Chasing Ice through the use of facts, data, experts, and the overcoming major roadblocks in an attempt to influence global warming skeptics. Even though the use of these methods connect well, the lack of focus on a specific topic, the absence of acknowledgement of other perspectives, and the dreary delivery of the content prevented the documentary from having any real impact on the intended audience of elderly. As a result, the documentary just appealed to the audience that believes in
Everything you would expect in a perfect person. Perfect hair, perfect eyes, and a perfect at everything. That was a guy by the name of Drake.
I was seven years old and it was in the middle of the summer and I almost got run over by a car. The day was going really good just like any other summer day; I got up, got dressed, ate breakfast, and went outside to play. For breakfast that day we had pancakes that tasted like they were made by angels. Before Chris and I went outside our mom yelled, “Be back by lunch or I’m going to send your dad out there to get you!”
My left elbow hurt very badly and I could feel blood running down my arm. It hurt so badly that I was crying. After a few minutes, I tried to get up, but I made my elbow hurt so badly because I was adding pressure to much pressure to it. Then I bent my elbow to see if it was broken because on the shows my parents watch, the doctors tell the injured people to bend their arms or legs to see if they are broken. Finally, someone noticed me and called Jaci’s mom, Brooke, over.
Me and my team sprinted onto the smooth shiny ice. We all immediately started warm ups because we only had 3 minutes.
Have you ever been treated unfairly? Have you ever been treated like you have no rights at all? Most people have, but few of them have been treated as badly as Victor and his friends were in “Ice Man” written by Elmore Leonard, just because they are Native Americans.
