A large part of my position was to support the Fundraising Coordinator in the event planning of the MS Walk, the Canada Day Pedal Parking and the MS Bike. The tasks were often divided into three categories, pre-event, day of event and post-event. My pre-event role was focused on promotion of the event, site prep and ensuring strong participation. I attempted to make myself available for any type of tasks. The fundraising coordinator delegated the calling of past participants to me. At first, I was a bit hesitant to call and ask for money and participation as it was something I had never done. However, after asking questions to and developing a script with my fundraising coordinator I was able to complete the task and in turn sign up 20 or more extra participants. In pre-event preparation my favorite task was to create the promotional posters and handouts. I used to my advantage my creativity to create the posters for the Canada Day Pedal Parking and the decorations for the MS Walk. …show more content…
This event had been the focus of my first month of work and I had contributed a great deal of pre-event preparation. The day of the event had an atmosphere of excitement as over 500 people came to walk for Multiple Sclerosis. The Kamloops & Area Chapter has one of the best attended walks in B.C.. On that day, my colleagues and I arrived to put together the event area. I was tasked with delegating jobs to the volunteers and helping them when needed. I enjoyed this type of task as it allowed me to interact with a new type of audience and it was very hands on. Throughout this term and through experiences with the volunteers, I saw how crucial volunteers are to NGOs. These individuals invest their own time to help out with a cause they care about. They bring an energy and passion that drives our
The process of being chosen for Future Leaders of Jones County included writing an essay and then being interviewed by a panel that oversees the Future Leaders of Jones County. In the organization, we were broken off into small groups and mixed with students from different schools around the county. I played a large role in my group— the fundraising leader. Our goal was to meet the needs of our local Battered Women’s Shelter, which were providing bedding, laundry, and a new playground for the women and their children that were also being homed. This project was very close to all of us in my group because there are so many battered and abused women in our community. In order to achieve the shelter’s wishes, we had to raise at least $1,000, so I had to go out and raise the money. With the help of many in our community, I was able to help my group reach our $1,000 goal, and we were able to go above and beyond accomplishing our project of service. After buying the necessities (pillows, sheets, blankets, detergent) for the shelter, we were able to purchase and put together a completely new play area for the children. The whole project was a success and getting to help better our community by enabling these women to stand up and get out of the situation of being abused so that they can start a new life. Seeing women like this made me realize how important it was
I have taken an active role in many clubs and various activities during my high school career. I have donated most of my time, however, to the B+ club, as a leader sophomore and junior year and co-president senior year. B+ is an organization that raises funds for families battling pediatric cancer and for cancer research. The main event for our B+ club is the annual student-run volleyball tournament during the winter; it’s such a fun night filled with friendly rivalries on the court while thousands of dollars are raised for the organization. During my sophomore year, I helped implement a new “care package” program, which I have led and we have continued ever since. We fill the “care packages” with games, candy, blankets, and more, and given
My eagerness to learn and extend myself fostered a positive and trustworthy relationship with my organisation manager and staff. As a result, I was able to engage in a myriad of roles and activities such as; driving the company van to pick up food donations or deliver furniture to clients, supervising the community craft program, using the company credit card to purchase required resources, and operating as the receptionist and emergency relief worker. In addition, I was also asked to attend a network meeting as a representative of The Salvation Army Doveton, thus engaging with people from various organisations in the local community.
I remember my company had various volunteering activities for employees to volunteer there assistance in areas such as, the Meals on Wheels program or, helping at the local children’s hospital. I decided to volunteer my time and assistance at the “Meals on Wheels” program. “Meals on Wheels Association of American’ mission is to support senior with
Waves of people arrived with arms full of canned foods; I was simply amazed at the altruism and benevolence those people possessed. The groups of people formed a semicircle and the same coordinator who I was first introduced to earlier began speaking about the event. She proclaimed that the purpose of the event hosted today was to not only provide assistance to those in need today but for many years to come. She continued by giving her countless thanks to the groups who gave a helping hand and donated their time to the Jubilee Center, as well as the event. As I looked across the crowd of people, I noticed that there were some who were very young, some still in elementary school and others who appeared wise and sagacious. Despite the difference in age, there was one thing that grouped all the people there in common: they all shared a passion to support those in
There were more than a thousand registers and volunteers at that time. It was a warm Saturday morning, a perfect planning and everyone felt happy and excited for the good cause. I finished 2 miles run even though I have had a limited physical strength. Recently, I have visited the shelters and had a privilege to interview Manager who is in charge the place provided me as much information as I need. Thomas House supports approximately 135 to 150 individual per year within their current owned of 16 apartments. Last years, over 95% of their residents graduated from our program, 89% moved into their own house and 81% got full-time job. I know that many people are without deep pocket or even they work hard to make money for their lives. However, just image ourselves donate by registering for event running for homeless children. The amount Thomas House can get and they can help a single mom of two who came to US from a domestic violence. Thomas house has been able to provide her with an independent home-cleaning business. That's mean the provide them with a new beginning, and we are help her too. As everyone know no one has ever become poor from giving. Just imagine how happy she is with her children, and we feel good
For my second activity, I attended a meeting of Fossil Free SFSU. This organization is fighting to completely divest San Francisco State University from any connections with the fossil fuel industry. Meaning, this organization is campaigning for SFSU to eliminate all stocks, funds, bonds, etc.- anything associated to fossil fuels. I attended the meeting at a perfect time because it was sort of an introduction to what the organization is about and what they have planned for the future. It began with a quick introduction of everybody, and then we quickly went to business. We discussed and brainstormed what is needed to become a successful campaign team. I really
I volunteered at the Sugar Land Wine and Food Affair for two days. The first day my position was Sip and Stroll set up which I helped assembling tables, linens, organize bags of tools needed in each table, and helped put up posters. On my second day my position was Sip and Stroll set up and Production were I assisted on any last minute set up before the event stared then later helped bring things need on the tables.
This year two of my community service activities went towards setting up for chapel and participating in a fundraiser for Upper Nyack Elementary School. Both of my events took place in the Bowman Gymnasium; however, the chapel set up took place on Monday November 14th for an hour, and the fundraiser event took place on Sunday, November 20th for five hours and fifteen minutes. I didn’t dedicate too much time helping set up chapel in the gym, so I’m going to write about my other community service opportunity. The Harlem Wizards, who are also known for their slogan “Tricks, Hoops and Alley Hoops”, sponsored the fundraiser. The group of Harlem Wizards was called the “Swoop Team.” They’re a group of six men who put on a world-class, high-flying and interactive basketball show for people all over the world. They were playing against some of the teachers from the school.
On November 1, my friend and I volunteered in Tellico during the Tellico Home Tour event. We were stationed in the Yacht Club to assit the Women’s Club to raise funds for themselves. To prepare for this we needed to look and be professional; we were required to wear dresses and associate with crowds of people. The Women’s Club had baked cupcakes for the people of Tellico to sample and then buy to support the club. While I was there, I helped set up displays for the cupcakes, I served food and drink, I convinced people to buy cupcakes to support the Women’s Club, and I also helped with the clean up after the selling event.
Almost three years ago, I resigned from my job, a center event coordinator (CEC), that I was doing great and became an Au Pair in the U.S. I never learned about marketing, planning, and management at school. Nevertheless, I received an official certificate of CEC Role Model Club: Most Progressive in the second quarter of performance evaluation. I realized that I had enthusiasm for acquiring professional knowledge about strategic communication at a graduate school intensely. However, I wanted to travel and soaked up American culture that I dreamed of since I aged seven years old.
After graduating from college, I took a gap-year before attending law school where I worked as a team lead for an AmeriCorps program at the Exchange Club Family Center in Memphis, TN. As a team lead, I oversaw a team of three in compiling data reports and creating specialized events for the impoverished families that were in the various programs at the Exchange Club. One of the programs that we collaborated on was a city-wide conference for middle and high school students. The program invited teenagers to attend the event and learn about a variety of topics including self-esteem and college admissions. I was over the logistics for the entire event. I set the schedule, assigned tasks for the event, reached out to speakers and sponsor for the
The person I contacted for this project is Michael Morman. He is the Community Events Manager at Hope & Help Center of Central Florida. I found this organization because a close friend of mine already volunteers at Hope & Help Center and she encouraged me to come in and talk to him.
During the event I felt that I was doing a good deed not only for the people who attend the church like myself, but for God as well being that the church is like his home and a place for worship. This made me want to do more for my community or just volunteering in general. I personally did not see any challenges in the event because it was well planned and the jobs were distributed in the same way/in that way. The other members who helped took their tasks of cleaning seriously and did a great job cleaning their areas of the church.
At the Big Morongo Valley Preserve, I will likely face problems, such as not being able to lift a heavy object or not being able to figure out how to use a tool. Both of these problems are certainly possible, as I have come across both in a similar project. If I run into problems such as these, I may ask for help from another volunteer. In one of these situations, that volunteer might help lift an object or explain how to use one of the tools. Another solution to this is, somebody running the event may give me a new job. There is likely multiple jobs required
