Basketball is a game of strategy, hustle, and skill. If you can’t handle the pressure, with defenders on your grill, and fans judging every action you make, then it’s not the game for you. I still remember the shot, the float, and the net diving sideways as the ball went in the rim. What a moment, as if it won’t happen again. I was having a great game, fourteen points, and 3 assists in that first half, working my way to a double double. I was four for four in the first half from the three point arch. I eventually cooled off in the second half, and my team was down by 5 with a minute and some to go. As the clock dwindled down, I knew I needed to hit a big shot. Thirty seconds left… I turned the ball over. They came down and hit a clutch layup. Down by 1 now I knew we would win this game, I got the ball and went to the rack. I heard the whistle… Foul, two shots. I made one of the two to tie up the game. They came down with 15 seconds left and took a bad shot, I got the rebound and the game was in my hands. It was win or go home, I felt the sweat dripping onto me and the ball, the fans on the edge of …show more content…
We swung the ball around the perimeter, and it came back to me. Eight seconds left I need to hit the shot. I took two dribbles left, and then my man came up to guard me, I gave him a crossover, and he was well off balanced. I basically fell, and I drove baseline, the clock was at two seconds. I saw a big man stepping up to contest my shot, I knew I had to be creative. I saw him ready to jump so I did a floater. I floated the ball high enough, so that it just went over his fingertips. The ball went off the rim, bounced twice, and went in. The buzzer sounded and we had won the game. I could feel the adrenaline and emotion from me and my team. I could see the blood, sweat, and tears from my team and the BC Bolts left on the court. What a moment, what a time, what a performance, what a
There is four seconds left on the clock I'm sitting on the bench, adrenaline rushing through me as Germantown tries to do the impossible. We did not know how this game would go, but we didn't think it would go well, until we learned that their best player was missing. This was a good sign because the last game that we had played them they beat us by about 30, and their best player (Luke Hopp) scored 30 or more points against us. After we won the tip I ran down the court and gave us the early lead, then Germantown drives down the court and makes a three to take the lead.
The game started, Tommy and I were playing the same quarters. I clamped up, locking Thomas down trying my best to get bragging rights. I was hot, sweaty, and tired. I got subbed out during the second quarter, and was relieved. I waited for my chance to play again as my team took a big lead. I went back in ready to play, first possession a good steal by my team i run ahead of everyone on the fast break, I am ready for the ball to come, I turn back catch the ball, look forward take a dribble go up for the floater and bam I’m fouled at the last second by their big Bennett. I was so frustrated because I really wanted that score. “It’s Alright Nate!” I hear coming from behind as my teammates jog up the court. The game ends, our team winning but I am still
The crowd is cheering, the pressure, the weight of my team on my shoulders I take three dribbles and then I spring up and take a shot and. It was a December night on the day of the Oley Championship Basketball Game, against Oley. After the tip off, the game was in Oley’s hands. They played great defense, made a lot of their shots, but our team just played horribly and they were up by 16 points. At the end of the third the score was around 26-10 Oley, but in my head the game was not over yet because we still had 8 minutes to come back, and I always want to win. Nothing really happened in the first 4 minutes, but in the last 2 minutes I contributed with an assist and 5 points including a layup and a three.
TWEEEEEET. Boom boom, boom boom. I heard the beating of my heart as I picked myself up from the ground. Trailing 1-0 with just over a minute left to play, the referee had blown the whistle for a penalty kick, and my coach was calling my name to take it. I stepped up to the spot, it was the last play of the game. I stared into the keeper's eyes. Left or right, left or right. He blew the whistle. Strategically placing the ball into the lower right corner, I could smell the celebrations, I could hear the parents and teammates chanting my name, but instead, all my senses were snapped back to reality when the keeper hit the ball out of bounds. That was it, I had the chance to win the championship for my team, and I blew it.
That day still feels like it was yesterday, that day was one of the greats, we were playing the undefeated team for the championship. Boy wasn't I excited, the park gym was packed to me it felt as if I was playing at Staples Center. Before tipoff I had all these thoughts and doubts running through my mind cause everybody in that gym was rooting for the other team. This game was close as we both fought for the title, there were many lead changes in the game who knew who was gonna come out on top. Clutch time, fourth quarter ten seconds left, tied game, the crowd is going wild as it felt like the building was about to collapse. My coach calls a timeout as I run towards the huddle I glance at the score tie game with ten seconds left we have a chance to prove everyone wrong. This was it, this is what he feels, this is why we practice, I knew I had to make this shot. As we set up in our positions that our coach had scribbled on his clipboard, the referee hands in the ball and we begin to run the play, as i struggle to get open I knew the clock was ticking I had no time to waste as soon as I catch that ball. Finally
Basketball became a place where I could exhibit my talent and it has been so for the past 7 years. Each time I play a match, I set a target for myself to be the top scorer of that game. I only settled for the best. The feeling of a 3 point shot swishing into the net and blocking a shot from my opponent left me feeling immensely satisfied and cool.
The team we were playing was one of the best in the school league. They had good guards and amazing post players. They could make a lot of the shots we missed. We were nervous, but we had made it here and we knew we had to win. It started out rough, our defense wasn’t quite there. We let the guards go by us and the post post up way to easily. At the end of of the first quarter it was 11-2, they were winning. By half time we finally made a
Time was running out. 2 seconds left on the clock. It was the 4th quarter we were down by 2. The referee blew the whistle signaling my teammate to inbound the ball. I was being double teamed. I ran down to the wing caught the ball and moved to the corner in a fluid motion, losing the defenders. I stood behind the line jumped and then turned in mid air to line up with the basket, and fired the ball. It floated through the air as the buzzer sounded. Swish. Nothing but net, I had won us the game! “MVP, MVP, MVP” the crowd chanted. My team ran at me shouting with joy. But then everything started to fade. I opened my eyes. “It was just a dream” I sighed. I rolled over and got ready to start the weekend. As I was brushing in my teeth
Being invited to the LSAM State basketball tournament was kind of a big deal. This was my first year playing on the 7-8th grade team at my middle school. Going into it we were heavy favorites to win, but that all changed after our first game. Standing on the side of the lane for a free throw, I could feel the cold sweat dripping down my face. My coach yelling “Andy get the rebound”, which actually meant to run a play after the shot. Down two points, I watch the ball bounce off the rim and I leap towards it. Grabbing the leathery ball, I hurl it to my teammate who is down the court. The play is executed perfectly. Our best shooters is spotted up on the three point line. He puts up the shot and the crowd goes silent. In slow motion, I watch
We were in a full timeout i was zoned out, and my mind was blank, i was scared to death for the team, this was the championship game, I didn't want to let down the team by missing a shot completely, a lot of people were telling me a lot of things such as ‘’you can do this’’ ‘’ you've done this many times’’ but i was completely out of my mind, I couldn't think straight i was hearing voices but didn't really catch em’ but there was one thing i did catch and it said ‘’never looked at the consequences of missing a big shot... when you think about the consequences you always think of a negative result, Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen, and this is your time to make it happen,’’ and that's exactly what I did I wasn't afraid to fail, i was able to accept failure, everyone fails at
We got the two-point conversion right after our touchdown, improving our moods even more. We were now at a tie, 8-8 and I was back in the game. On 4th Down, when it was UCLA’s ball, they tried to do one of their runs again, but this time, I was ready. I sprinted like a cheetah, and then I tore the flag off of him, which resulted in LSU’s ball. Maybe it could make up for the first play, I thought. Just as easily as before, our team scored the touchdown. Once again, I went to the sidelines. My teammate high-fived me as we passed by each other.
The ball left my fingertips and it swooshed. One point. One point away from this dream of mine that has just become a reality. The referee hands me the ball. I look to where my family and my team is sitting: my mom sitting anxiously, my sister holding her phone to capture this moment, my teammates all holding hands, and Coach Hurt, who looks at me and says, “relax, you’ve got this.” Once again, I stepped up to the line. I dribbled one time, lined my elbow up, and closed my eyes for a split second and shot. When the ball left my fingertips, I did not know if the ball was going to go in. But, at the last second I saw the ball go through the net. I was ecstatic. The next thing I knew, my teammates were hugging me and the crowd was going wild. I could not have scored 1000 points if I did not have the support from my teammates, my coaches, and my
I was not serious about the sport as I joked around and tried to flirt with girls during practice. My coach, Coach Goodwin, gave me my jersey and schedule. I had a game next Monday! I started to work seriously hard on dribbling drills, but I was pretty good at basketball before playing. Monday came and we were going against the best team in the league! I felt the adrenaline pumping as the game started, and I held on to it. We did not score the whole 1st quarter. Assistant Coach Hodges pounded it on us hard, but for some reason I loved it. The 2nd quarter began and the opposing team kept scoring. Finally, our point guard, Marcus Molder, brought the ball down and passed it to me at the 3-point line. I got a marvelous feeling in my bones, and shot a 3-pointer. It was the first and pace-setting shot Bethany scored as I made it in. That was when I knew I had athletic ability, and I actually loved the sport. “No matter how much discipline will be upon me, I will use my athletic ability to the fullest”, I said. Bethany still lost the game 88 to 18, but I had the thrill of my
I fell deeply in love with the game of basketball when I was living in Springfield, Illinois. Starting back in fourth grade I used to be outside playing a game called knockout it was always so fun I always enjoyed it. From the beginning I always played it just because I enjoyed it but as time went by I begin to fiend to play the game it became my lifestyle. I remember in 6th grade at Grant middle school I tried out for basketball and we were playing the eighth graders I had I had about 10 points and I hit a buzzer beater 3 in someone’s face. That is probably my one of the first great things I did with basketball. But then we moved to Anna, Texas and I couldn’t play because they don’t have a 6th grade team. Even then I still played around I
The only thing that was on my mind all week and on the flight, was me playing with the older girls. Before I knew it, I am lacing up getting ready for show time. I was taking the court against fifteen-year-old players from a great Team Ohio program. I did not start the game. It was pretty early in the game when the coach called my name to sub in. As a matter of fact, it was a dog fight. I was still nervous, but I played my hardest. After a few minutes, I got a steal then scored my first bucket. This is when I realized I was able to play at this level. This dog fight ended up going into overtime. This was the first time I was introduced to this concept “Sudden Death” over time. Before we tipped off the officials came over to us and explained: “The first team to take a lead of two points wins the game.” We win tip and coach called a timeout and draws up a play for me to drive baseline and shoot a floater. The play went exactly as coach designed it. Everything went well except that the floater rimmed out. The opposing team got the rebound and advanced the ball to get a wide-open layup. We
