There are 7 behaviors that promote learning. They are grit, curiosity, self-control, social intelligence, zest, optimism, and gratitude. The behavior that I consider most important for my learning is self-control. Grit is perseverance in pursuit of goals. Curiosity is desire to known and learn. Self-control is emotions, actions, behavior and expression. Social intelligence is ability to get along well with others. Zest is enthusiasm and energy. Optimism is hopefulness and confidence about the future of successful outcome of something. Gratitude is appreciation for others. The one behavior most important to me is self-control because I have low self-esteem. When I’m having a bad day my attitude doesn’t makes me want to learn and I snap on people.

Perlis ‘s article discusses five characteristics of Grit. The article begins by discussing how today’s parents have protected their children from failure, causing our current generation to be soft. She further explains that successful individuals possess the 5 characteristics of grit. The first characteristic is, Courage. She explains that courage is a muscle that must be grown and acts a sort of fuel for grit. The second characteristic is, conscientiousness. Margaret says these in individuals are achievement oriented and very meticulous. In other words, they go for the go for the gusto and are very detail oriented, instead of just being a participant. The third characteristic Margret describes is, follow through. That is, successful individuals have endurance to meet long-term goals. The forth characteristic is resilience. She explains that endurance is a characteristic of grit because with long term goals successful individuals are bound to fail now and then. These individuals must be able to stand up after they fall. That is, be able to preserver and learn from their mistakes. The fifth and final characteristic that describes grit is excellence. She explains excellence as an attitude not an end result. The leader I chose to do this project on is Jack Welch. Jack Welch was a chairmen and CEO of a very successful company known as General Electric. He started in the company in 1960 and he started from the bottom, as a junior chemical engineer for General Electric. He was with the company for about 40 years before he retired a very wealthy man, but through those 40 years he did a lot of things as a leader to improve General Electrics and helped making them into a very successful company. The fifth student learning objective assures that we will be able to function well in a multi- disciplinary team. I took Engineering 100 course in my past where I was required to work in a group of students of different majors. Our group had to design and build a hovercraft for the entire semester and the hovercraft project was divided into several parts which was excessively affective to perform the goal of our project. However, our team was able to help each other out when it came to the different aspects of designing the hovercraft by having a multi-disciplinary team. The first theory I believe plays a role in this situation is called the social learning theory. This theory is when parents seem to think that if the child is given a harsher punishment each time then they will learn to be less aggressive and not so angry (Troop-Gordon, 2016).
