Throughout High School I have participated in numerous activities and clubs, but two clubs in particular surely stand out to me. DECA is a business club offered at DHS that has allowed me to development my leadership and presentation skills. My project this year pertained to drone photography for real estate agents, and anyone who I talked to could recognize the excitement in my eyes. National Honor Society is another club that is surely demanding, especially as an officer, but is extremely rewarding. During our final monthly meeting, I gave an overview of everything we have accomplished in the year, and the list accumulated was surely impressive. Each item on that list elicited memories that were truly rewarding. Through my personal community service experiences however, I have recently been volunteering at St. John the Baptist School, an elementary school in …show more content…
One teacher I work with revealed, “It feels like you have been here so much longer, you definitely fit right in!” After this point, I became more and more confident in myself and my ability to effectively interact with children, especially when Ms. Jackson said, “If you're going to be a nurse, then you should definitely consider pediatrics.” This left me so proud and also validated, knowing that my future goals were recognizable by other people without me even telling them.
Pediatric nursing is extremely competitive, but I am ready to take on the challenges because it is something I am very passionate about. This one community service experience has generated new interests, interests that have impacted my aspirations in life. Having a positive impact on those around me has always been important to me, and now it will be translated into a career in pediatric nursing, and will allow me to be the nurse and the the person I aspire to
Nursing is an extremely demanding but rewarding career within the medical sector. Child nursing is a unique position to make a difference to the lives of children and their families. Through experiences in life I learnt that I can make a difference in the lives of other people. As a healthcare professional, I will be able to communicate effectively with each individual in such a close and intimate way, that no other career can offer. I am passionate about healthcare and I am looking to pursue a career helping young children with illnesses. Nursing will open the gate to my aspirations. It is a career for dedicated, responsible, reliable people who are able to develop relationships with patients quickly. I have these skills and I am passionate
Since I have been a young girl, I have dreamed of dedicating my life to aid others in health and wellness. Nursing, however has not always been my leading career choice. Career options such as a pediatrician, oncologist, anesthesiologist, etc. have been considered in my pursuit of finding the proper career path, but through all the consideration I have never lost my true passion of helping others. Through careful examination of these various careers, I discovered that I wanted to pursue a career that was more personal and hands-on. I have chosen to pursue a career as a pediatric oncology nurse. Although this career with be both physically and emotionally demanding, I feel that I have made the best choice to become a nurse and devote my life in the pursuit of restoring health and wellness in children battling detrimental diseases.
“Definition of a nurse: To go above and beyond the call of duty. The first to work and the last to leave. The heart and soul of caring. A unique soul who will pass through your life for a minute and impact it for an eternity. An empowered individual whom you may meet only for a 12-hour period, but who will put you and yours above theirs”-Anonymous. For the past year and a half, I have volunteered at Blaire E. Batson Children’s Hospital. It has been an amazing experience! My passion for the medical field and career of nursing has been magnified. I know without a doubt that nursing is what I want to do for the rest of my life. I long for the opportunity to care for my future patients and their families. I want to touch other people’s lives just as I have witnessed nurses do throughout my time volunteering. God has given me a passion for nursing. With my passion and compassion for others, I know I will be successful if admitted into the BSN program.
I am passionate of becoming a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. I got inspired to work in this field when I interned at hospitals such as the Veterans and at Community Regional Center in the children's clinic. I have always worked with children and like being part of their lives. Ever since I volunteered at Storey Elementary After school Program with kids on their homework, it assured me that working with children is what makes me happy. I want to impacts others lives positively. I am serious about my career path and I take every advantage to learn more about it. This was one of the reasons why I had taken part of the UCSF Doctors Academy program, because I wanted to learn more about the health profession and be exposed to it. Being part of the
My career commitment as a nurse has grown tremendously over the past three years; through my daily experiences as a Medical Assistant. I have devoted my time as a full time student and employee of the health care profession. Both of these occupations have helped shape me into the person I want to be for as long as time allows. Daily I witness these community role models that posses abilities such as problem solving skills, promotion and protection of an individual’s advocacy all tied in with compassion to meet the health care needs of an individual.
Sophomore year, I joined my High School's division of Kiwanis Key Club. The club prided itself with their devotion to community service. I thought that the club would be a great vehicle for me to assist my community while creating and expanding my relationships. However, I was greatly disappointed in the club my Sophomore year. There appeared to be little leadership present, so hardly any community service successfully took place. I made it my goal to gain a leadership position and turn the club around. Junior year, I was elected as President of the club and was re-elected to the position my Senior year.
Something that I have done to make my school/community a better place is becoming a member of National Honor Society. This society is a club within my school that is focused on the betterment of the community. To stay a member within the club, one must gain 80 points a semester, one can gain points from volunteering or donating materials for events such as card making for the elderly and Toys for Tots. I personally have gained all of my points for the semester by volunteering at multiple places. Some of the places that I have volunteered at are the Houston Food Bank, Families Feeding Families at Tomball Christbridge Fellowship, and TEAM resale shop in Tomball. All of these locations where I volunteered for over a total of 15 hours over the
One of my most enjoyed extracurricular activities is National Honor Society because it allows me to engage with the community around my school. It also gives me the opportunity to work with people from other grade levels by having projects that require the input of all the members. Usually the meetings are two every month but on special events like the special olympics or winter formal it can change up to 4 every month. One of the events that the group did this year was preparing banners for the special olympics. This small project allowed me to learn more about the special ed group that is on our campus and how there needs to be more effort to integrate them in our school community. This year I had the opportunity to work at my school's thanksgiving
My high school years have been filled with many great memories; it is safe to say that I had an enjoyable high school experience. Some of my most unforgettable moments of my high school career have been in Beta Club. In 9th grade, I joined the Beta Club at my school. I joined because I knew that this club was an organization for those who love to serve others, and I know that decision will have a lasting impact on my life as well as on others’ lives. I was elected President of the Beta Club at my school in 11th grade. I led my club of about 40 members throughout the year as we took part in various service activities such as: trash pickup for Adopt a Highway, sponsoring a child for the holidays, and visiting local elementary schools to read
Throughout my high school years, I have challenged myself to maintain a high GPA yet, be involved in various student organizations. I have learned to manage my time and to become a responsible student by fulfilling the requirements and duties of each organization. I am involved in National Honor Society, Educational Talent Search, Book Club, Art Club, and Technology Student Association. I was selected to become a National Honor Society member my sophomore year and was accepted because of outstanding academic achievement, good service to the community, and leadership. This organization has helped me grow as a person and it has allowed me to contribute to the community. We take part in activities such as the annual toy drive, Thanksgiving food

There have been two major opportunities that have shaped and impacted me: serving with Calvary Kids Care and watching a girl’s cabin on Thursday nights at Camp Brookwoods and Deer Run. I started volunteering with Calvary Kids Care my freshman year in high school. The first time that I ever held a baby, I was terrified. I had no idea if I was holding her correctly, or if I looked as uncomfortable on the outside as I felt on the inside. The little ball of life that I held in my hands kept trying to snuggle closer, but I held the baby away from me, afraid that I would crush it if I let it get too close. This first experience led to many, and thus my partnership with Calvary Kids Care was formed. I started to work with the kids, mainly newborns
Serving as volunteer at Baptist Medical Center East played a large part in my decision to become a physician. I spent 17 months volunteering with the surgery department. In that time, I saw many patients and was able to observe the interaction of nurses, techs, physicians, and patients. As a volunteer I did a lot of cleaning and organizing, however I had the opportunity to meet with patients and show them to their holding room. I saw many patients come and go, from emergency surgeries to common everyday procedures. All of these had the same things in common, family members who are worried about their loved ones. As a volunteer, I was able to witness the worry and hesitation as families walked back to the waiting room. I was also able to witness
I have volunteered 2 times over the years, once at Hope mission and once with the Victory Christian Centre. At hope missions I helped cut different veggies for the meal later in the day, plated food, served trays to people, swept and cleaned tables and trays after the meal was finished, and had small conversations with different people. During my time there I learned sorting skills, working under pressure, time management, and overcoming problems.
