I previously manage three different projects that require a solid working understanding of project management methodologies – a project management methodology being a set of interrelated phases, activities and tasks that define the project process from the start through to completion within budget on time.
The three projects that I previously worked on had different costs, schedules and priorities. I managed the functions and progress automation via scheduling, activity sequencing, work authorisation, Gantt charts through Microsoft Project. I was involved in all aspects of the projects including project definition, scope, planning, implementation, monitoring and feedback, and completion of the project.
I have excellent time management skills and organise and prioritise many tasks and staff workloads by creating workflow breakdowns with expected outcomes in relation to time, cost and quality. I am a results-oriented leader with a consistent history of achieving results when managing teams in a project management environment. I ensure my teams are equipped to achieve maximum efficiency and output. Effective stakeholder management within a project is essential for project success and particularly when managing multiple initiatives. With the exceptional growth in technology, the present day projects are often large and complex involving a significant risk. So, a Project Management Methodology enables the delivery organization to handle these projects comprehensively, systematically and in an integrated manner, which results in strategic, tactical and operational benefits.

In order to achieve successful results within established time-frames and budgets, project managers are likely to employ methodologies models. A project methodology is a model that aids managers to plan, design and implement their project goals. Project methodologies are helpful to project manager in any field, for instance, Niel Nickolaisen CIO at the Western Governors University, is an advocate for the agile software development methodology. As these models grants flexibility when dealing with stipulations and scope changes on a project. Needless to say the agile software development methodology is just one example of a varied assortment of methodologies, each with their strengths and weakness. As such, it is up to the project manager to decide which methodology fits their needs, as there isn`t a one fits all solution.

Project management is managing the work to develop and innovate or even change within an existing operation. There are five steps in this management: Initiating the project, Planning and controlling all activities to keep the project on schedule, executing every phase of the projects process, monitoring/ controlling reviewing and regulating the progress and performance of all phases of the project, Closing process this is where all processes are finalized and completed to officially close the project out.

Much of the difficulty in becoming an effective project manager lies in understanding the particular challenges project management. 2) Understand who the stakeholders are and what they want.
Several adaptations to the traditional approaches like agile, interactive, phased, extreme, etc have been made but each will be expected to meet the requirements of the project objectives, timeline, resources, and deliveries of the stakeholders. Other industry standard certifications like ISO9000 and regulations like the Sarbanes-Oxley have also influenced methodologies and processes used by several organisations (Kerzner, 2003). Generally, managing projects should involved five major process which include the project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and controlling, and then project closing. See Fig. 2 below.
Prior to this course, I thought that in order to manage a project you need to be a project manager. However, this course changed my perspective on project management. As I continue to read the book, I realized that I actually manage many projects, and project management is not only limited to organizations. Throughout our lives, we manage many projects from planning a wedding to building a house, some of those projects may take few days and some may take years to complete. In addition, I also learned that there are no two projects that are alike, each project has it’s own unique elements that set it apart from other projects.
Project manager as the name suggests is the one who has to everything from start to end for a project and he has everything that goes on in a project is done under his supervision. He is the commander of everything and in the end if something goes wrong then he is the one who will be held responsible and not the workers or the labor or anything for that matter. So obviously being a project manager is not an easy task and cannot be given to anyone. To be a project manager you just don’t have to have the technical skills but also personal and professional skills. You should have motivational skills and you should know how to create a positive and friendly atmosphere at work. A perfect project manager would be the one who balances everything in the most perfect manner possible.
In order to achieve their business objective, project management and the used methodology are key factor which will be responsible for the success or failure of this project.
Commitment and involvement- the team should be able to understand the goals and should be committed in achieving them
