People always me ask this one question, “Why do I want to become a nurse?” Well, the significant reason that made me want to be a nurse is to help patients’ health issues and to nurse them with great care. There are some patients that could barely do anything and have fallen into despair, that’s why I am willing to help these patients while they are gradually recovering. Particularly, it all started when I began volunteering at the Memorial Hermann Hospital, I wanted to get a hands-on experience on what it’s like to assist the patient needs. After a few years of volunteering, I developed the knowledge of a nurse’s daily life in the hospital. I learned that being a nurse can be critical and hard dedication, which inspired me to want and help patients who are in desperate need of assistance. Even though, there are certain rules that a volunteer cannot do; such as providing patients the right beverages as it is stated in the dietary sheet; I try my best that I can to make sure that patients are comfortable and feel at ease. …show more content…
When I completed my prerequisite courses at Houston Community College, I had to repay my substantial loan that I took out. Thanks, from my job as well as with help from my parents, I paid off most of the debt. While I am still waiting to attend UST, and get into the nursing program, my parents and aunt decided to aid me and pay for my tuition, textbooks and transportation. Despite the intensity of the nursing school, I always look for tutoring sessions, even finding a friend or classmates to study with that has a strong ambition and desire to achieve their purpose. I also ask my relatives that are in the medical field for guidance and advice. Without my friends and families, I wouldn’t be where I am today because they are my support system especially in difficult times when I struggled in my
The compassion and care that Jersey College of Nursing has engrained in me runs deep within me and serves a guiding light. During my clinical experiences, I was determined to apply the training I have received at Jersey College of Nursing. It is my goal to make the lives of others more pleasant by means of a simple greeting or question such as “how is your day today?” I have learned what it really means to be a nurse; it is much more than the physical healing of a patient. An excellent nurse is aware of the mental, spiritual and physical needs of both her patients and her fellow
I feel so proud and yet so humbled to be a nurse. Helping a post-operative surgical patient regain the strength to walk brings me immense satisfaction. Collaborating with physicians to advocate on behalf of unstable patients makes me feel like a valued part of a team. Consoling tearful, discouraged patients can be gut-wrenching, but it teaches me the power of empathy. Making a real, tangible difference in my patients’ lives is what drives me toward this next phase in my career.
As a nurse, we have the responsibility of providing safe and patient-centered care to the community. Patients are more than numbers, and as nurses we must treat them as individuals who need attention and personalized care. While caring for patients, we must use
The nursing field gives a person the opportunity to work with and care for elderly, sick, and injured patients. I want to join the registered nurse team because they take on multiple medical settings. Registered nurses are known as RNs. They are responsible for multiple things. Being a RN has a lot of responsibility. The topics I will be covering are: job description, specialties, trends, salary, benefits, and required trainings. These are essential things that a person needs to know before going into nursing school.
Since I can remember I have always had a compassion and natural desire to care for my fellow man. Now having this opportunity, I remain committed to this task. During my nursing career as a Registered Nurse, I allow myself time to grow clinically and to expose myself to a variety of health care emergency situations which continues to be very valuable to me in strengthening my career. It is very fortunate that I have the opportunity to be in a position to where I am today.
I would like to pursue a career as a Registered Nurse because I like to work with all types of people. When you become a registered nurse your job will be to arrange patient care. Also to educate the patient and the public about health conditions such as contagious viruses and diseases. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2014, 2,751,000 people got jobs as registered nurses. Also according to Bureau of Labor Statistics between 2014-2024 the amount of jobs as registered nurses will grow 16% faster than average. I am choosing registered nurse as my career goal because I am passionate when it comes to helping people.
When entering the healthcare system, accommodating patients should be a top priority for any nurse. A nursing job can be emotionally and physically exhausting. Because patients are in hospitals and home care facilities throughout the year, it never closes. This forces nurses to be away from their families on weekends and holidays. When having a heart of a nurse, the patient’s health outweighs
I cannot attribute my desire of becoming a nurse to following the footsteps of a family member, nor caring for a sick family member as I was growing up. I am a first generation high school student, furthermore, a college graduate. I became a mother at the very young age of sixteen. Being so young and growing up without the care of my parents, it was always said I, too, would end up in a rough situation and not be able to care for my child being so young myself. I continued out my days and nights being a high school teen mom. I graduated from high school in three years by attending night school while I was pregnant; allowing me to finish school sooner and obtain a better job that would allow me to take care of my son.
Since my work experience in an educational environment I have developed a passion for working with children. From working as a teaching assistant in an additional needs school I have been able to work closely with various students, some of which having profound and multiple learning difficulties, I have been fortunate enough to see the work of nurses and medical professionals who care for these children. This has inspired me to pursue a future in the nursing sector. Thanks to my work I have been able to see the small and big developments that each child is able to make.
I wish to be considered for the Los Angeles City College Registered Nursing Program, because I believe that this program will provide me with the techniques and knowledge to excel in patient care and become a successful nurse. I always knew that I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives; after taking a few perquisites for nursing, I found that the science aspect of it piqued my interest. Studying about the functions of the human body, and how the environment, medicine, and genetics affect homeostasis, caused me to develop a passion for nursing. Therefore, I exposed myself to the hospital environment by volunteering in the ICU at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center. My experience in the ICU was motivational and inspiring. I loved walking
At the age of seven, I had my first kidney transplant that left me hospitalized for two weeks. During this time, I had plenty of time to “investigate” what health career I should pursue. I immediately became fascinated with nursing. Wanting to be involved with my medical care, and curious about the nursing profession, I began asking my nurse questions about why she had chosen to become a nurse, and what she liked most about her profession. Her response was simple, “Because she wanted to help people like me.” At his point, I knew that becoming a nurse would be my goal for the future.
My calling to nursing started when my father got diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2015. I watched him suffering through radiation and chemotherapy, but what got him through those hard times was the help of some great loving and caring nurses. As I became more involved in taking care of him, my passion for nursing had greatly increased. Now, for nine years, I have maintained a commitment to caring for others in the field of Nursing. Being a registered nurse (RN), I have taken care of one patient at a time, which I have been involved in the amelioration of lives, and have only been left wanting to give and do more. Pursuing a master of science in nursing (MSN) is more than just a logical or natural progression for my career. It is a life choice, one that is backed by highly refined clinical judgments and in-depth exposure to an array of set-ups, and levels of care. In this personal statement, I will deeper highlight an explanation of my career goals, the reasons for my choice of Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) specialization, and lastly the reason for pursuing an advanced degree in nursing.
Each time I am asked why I chose the medical and more specifically to become a doctor, I tell the interviewer that it looks like fun. Am I crazy? Some may think my head might not be attached correctly. The student loans I will acquire, the amount of time and effort it takes, and the overwhelming schedule is enough to scare any normal person away. But some rare people are out there to make the seemingly impossible be more than possible. I became a certified nursing assistant as soon as I turned 16 with the hopes of becoming a nurse in my future. After working and helping patients, I couldn’t dream of not becoming a nurse. The relationship you establish with someone you are helping can be so influential. Over the last year I have worked with
A nurse practitioner, is a profession that I have wanted to pursue for many years. The Family Nurse Practitioner program of the County of Los Angeles Department of Health Services and California State University of Los Angeles will provide the advanced level of education I need, to provide evidence based practice care to a wide variety of patients. My goal is to utilize this level of expertise and knowledge to give back to the community especially to the underprivileged inmate population in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department by providing them easy access to high quality, patient centered and cost effective health care.
Many people in life have turning points when they realize what they want to do with their lives. For me I’ve always wanted to be a nurse. There has never been a specific or defining moment that prompted me to begin this journey of pursuing a career in nursing. There are many honorable and rewarding careers in this world, but for me I’ve never thought of anything more gratifying than caring for people. Nursing is simply caring for people and caring can be defined as the work or practice of looking after those unable to care for themselves, especially sick and elderly people.
