Although I have not spent every day of my life in school, I perceive my whole life as an educational experience, probably due to my innate curiosity. My decision to pursue a political science specialist and a criminology major at the University of Toronto are reflections of my experience as a child of immigrant refugee parents and as a relative of inmates, respectively. My decision to base my interests more generally in the social-sphere of the world reflects my detached perspective. I have chosen to appeal to you by virtue of the perspectives that I have gained as an individual which led me to place pen on paper and address to the “University of Ottawa”. I expect that you will understand this not as an appeal to any sort of pity or sympathy, but as it is -my story.
Overlooking the clouds from the airplane window, the sense of excitement overwhelmed me. My family and I were going on a ‘vacation’, to a refugee camp in Lebanon to meet my extended family. During that 3-month trip, war broke out, and consequently, I experienced a personal paradigm shift which broadened my world perspective for the rest of my life. As I ran through the dark alleyways with my mother and siblings looking for cover from the falling debris, I yearned for protection. We were left to fend for ourselves as we sat and prayed that we were not in the crosshairs of the incoming missiles. A week into the war, the Canadian government began evacuations of its trapped citizens.
3 years later, after returning
Hmmm………What shall I tell you about me? You, the person who will decide my fate, my fate as to whether I would go to CU-Boulder, go live in Colorado, go snowboarding in the mountains, meet lots of interesting people, and have the most wonderful experience…I better make myself sound worthy. First off, I want you to know that I'm an unparalleled individual, whose outlook on life is of total optimism. Through out my 18 years, I've become freinds with people from all walks of life. I've learned to empathize with just about every one of them, gaining the greatest understanding in a variety of remarkable characters. One of my favorite, a homeless lady who's called Polly, tells the most incredible stories of love and the many
Some people have skills that makes them unique, my skill was just always a hands on learner. I have always just enjoyed fixing minor things around my house since I was four. My mother would usually say “Where’s my handyman at?” whenever there were something to fix. Something about getting the knowledge of turning something useless into its original state just intrigues me. When I was around ten years old, I started skating and it had me actually figure out the board completely and learned how to assemble one which gave me more experience.
I am currently a year 11 students at Beauchamp College. I believe myself to be a dedicated, self-motivated as well as a confident person. I can complete tasks on my own but I can also work well as part of a team. More over I cope extremely well under pressure and always aspire to do everything to the best of my ability. Whilst I have clear objectives, I also take in advice and use it to better my self as a person.
The significant academic challenge I have faced, is my learning disability. in all my life I have this challenge, and I can’t run from these struggles. The struggles are from reading to math, and from math going into memory issues that I have to struggle with all my life.
As a student affairs practitioner I believe I am a cornerstone of the higher education experience. I have made it my mission to help students be the best version of themselves for the benefit of not only them, but of society at large. I work to help create not only educated students, but also engaged members of a global society.
During the summer of my junior year in high school I found I had a genetic kidney disorder called Alport syndrome. The doctor informed my family that while it wasn’t curable, we could slow the onset through precautionary measures. Thus, began my weekly doctor visits. These visits became a drain on my teenage self-esteem and a constant reminder of my defect. However, thanks to the support of my friends and family, I somehow maintained good standing in school and continued onwards.
As a graduate student in School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University, I have acquired so many skills ranging from corporate communications, public relations, brand communications, advertising, Search Engine Marketing (SEM), advanced writing, public speaking, just to mention a few.

During that 3-month trip, war broke out, and consequently, I experienced a personal paradigm shift which broadened my world perspective for the rest of my life. If it were not for that experience, I probably would not have had the profound sense of appreciation of the relative safety, justice, and opportunity offered in Canada. I had returned determined to learn, and hopefully, with the help of a legal education, contribute to the progression of the values which have allowed me to reach this point. These values have led me to honor the role of the law in creating justice and order by facilitating stability and change.
Rutgers University would dramatically help me achieve my personal and educational goals. I am currently a sophomore at Gloucester County College with a dream of starting my own business. I will be the first in my family to obtain a bachelor’s degree. Receiving a degree would be a huge milestone in my family and I would be setting a good example to the rest of my family. I originally applied to Rutgers when I was a senior in high school and I was ecstatic about my acceptance, but I had a personal issue that ultimately changed my plan for college. Unfortunately, I had no idea Rutgers had online degrees, so I turned to community colleges that offered online degrees as a quick solution in order to still attend college that fall. I am planning
From taking my first steps at the age of 8 months old, to walking alone to a friend’s house at 3(kids don’t try this at home), followed by cooking dinners autonomously at 10 years old, my life has accumulated to a series of beautiful memories that my father has meticulously sculpted to raise me as an independent young lady. He taught me the virtues of such self governing and the beauty of freedom that such a gift dons. Every day I strive to honor such teachings. It is no wonder that these lessons have led me to strive to pay for college by myself.
I am uniquely qualified to receive the WCU grant because of my dedication to academics, seminary involvement and pursuit of holiness.
Hello, I am Kelly Conley and I have recently enrolled at Boise State University (BSU) as a sophomore. My goal at BSU is to earn a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis on history and graduate by 2018. I am attending college, so that I will be able to learn more about my major and also to explore my options. While in high school, I had many reasons and people that motivated me to enroll into college, including my mom, my guidance counselors, and research on what I want to be later on in life. Although I was already going to apply for college, I heard a lot of good things about it from a few of my friends, on how college really makes you a stronger and more independent person. In the past few years, I’ve met quite a few people who have graduated high school and decided not to attend any college, and sooner or later I hear about how upset they are that they did not attend and how they have no idea what to do with their life. I did not want
I believe that I deserve this scholarship because I have dedicated my life to helping anyone and everyone I can. Starting in middle school I worked very closely with The Town of North Hempstead in all and any volunteer opportunities they offered. In 9th grade I was given the chance to help out at ht e local library, then at the school library, and have set up sessions where high school students read to the kids in elementary school. 10th grade I continued with these endeavors. In 11th grade I realized I wasn't doing enough to help, so I joined up with Shoes for Harvest. This organization collects shoes and distributes them to people who are in need. Working with them we collected over 1500 pairs of shoes, which is more then they had done in
