This fundamental truth of our identity is simplified with the truth of our identity in Jesus. Although not as notorious today, the neighborhood had garnered negative attention for its high crime rates. My mother emigrated from Haiti and raised me as a single parent. Due to our financial circumstance, Roxbury became our permanent residence. I have always felt there was something lacking in Roxbury in comparison to other towns I visited. My family and I moved to the United States from Peru when I was three years old. Upon moving to the U.S., their initial intentions were to continue their education. However, both did not know English, and were poorly informed on the legal process of migrating permanently. Therefore, unaware of the need to renew their visas, our immigration status became illegal. Despite this, my parents decided to stay because they felt the United States could offer me a better education and opportunities when compared to Peru. Unable to pursue their careers because of immigration status, my parents were forced find employment in construction and babysitting respectively.
I did not file a Federal tax return for the year 2014, because I have not worked during the year. I am retire and my only form of income is Social Security. Since I made no income for the year of any type, I was not required to file an income tax return with the Internal Revenue Service.

In high school, DECA broadened my horizons regarding the business world. It showed me all the different parts of business from hotel administration, to accounting and entrepreneurship. I enjoy the thrill of being able to make a successful business deal. I love pitching ideas and seeing the excitement in judges’ eyes. There was no doubt I became more knowledgeable and interested in the business field.
My first recollection of paid employment was as a paperboy. I remember walking my neighborhood saving money to purchase a bike, with the intention of accelerating my work hours and allowing for an efficient work model. During high school I worked as a counselor at the town summer camp. My work experiences paled in comparison to my peers, as I was absorbed in athletics and most specifically soccer. In retrospect I regret not seeking various forms of employment during my teenage years as I feel that I would have developed a positive identity of work.
Yellow sheets, a menacing term that I once thought would never become a reality, were first presented to me in 2016 in AP Calculus AB and have remained a constant presence throughout my AP Calculus BC and Multivariable Calculus courses. These have a reputation for being the most challenging questions you will ever face in the math classroom during your four years of high school. The yellow sheets were the first form of assessment that I had to complete that focused on my understanding of a concept and not just the memorization of formulas.
