Personal Statement: Success does not come as a gift package. It follows series of challenging roller coaster where an individual dedication, hard work and an ability to take an advantage of opportunities combines. Earning my bachelor degree from San Diego State University is one of the accomplishment that generates a sense of pride in my mind. I committed myself to walk through my academic path. I worked full time while I was taking full time classes to support financially myself and my study. It was not easy ride but I never gave up my hope. It was a different world of experience in life. In addition to books materials, I learned to live with limited resources, I learned to work hard and open up a new world of opportunities. During the course
It has taken a few years to earn a two-year degree, but that’s how it goes for people in my shoes. I have to work a full-time job to afford to live and keep myself in school. I have been a member of the honors college for years, a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Student Government, and Psi Beta. Each one of these organizations have given me the tools needed to understand my dream. I have seen the scars that others carry inside themselves, I have seen the weight they put on their shoulders. I have been there to help guide them, to help teach them how to listen and understand not only themselves, but the dreams they seek.
It has been a long and hard road toward obtaining my higher learning credentials. Immediately after high school I attended college, falling short academically in my first several years of college led me to be to believe that I wasn’t smart enough to attend college. At the base of my soul, I knew I was college material, I just needed the right tools to exert that drive and ambition. Most people pursue higher learning to increase their earning potential but at that point in my life, I reached my financial goal. A coworker told me about the University of

I have been fully employed since the age of sixteen and have worked in many different types of jobs while attending school. I worked at Herman Miller for a short period of time as a temp and had better quality control and more quantity produced then prior workers. I have excelled at every job I have ever taken. Thank you for submitting your work to be read by others. I know how challenging it is to allow someone to comment on a piece of writing you’ve worked hard on. I saw that you are looking for feedback on word choice and sentence structure. I will comment only on those two things, per your request. Your letter starts out by saying that you hope your sister-in-law’s family is happy and well-cared for. This is a great beginning, and shows that you are interested in their well-being. You also include an update on what is going on in your life, focusing on the positive aspects. With respect to working with others, I actively collaborated and maintained a positive professional relationship with team members, DARPA and service officials, and stakeholders. My actions facilitated positive meetings with stakeholders that provided the team with important information needed for the engagement. As a first generation student from a low-income community, there was a constant struggle to remain apparent of how to conquer the college experience. The 4.2 GPA from high school did not seem possible when receiving the first letter grade of a C on an assignment that seemed fairly easy. Overall the challenge become possible with graduating in four years, to discover my first employment opportunity was with a program called,
Wow, today is my last class, and I can’t believe I have made it; eight weeks has gone by with a blink of an eye, and English class 099-800 was my most challenging. This was my first semester of college in almost thirty years, it was hard and I feel I gave 100% focus, although if I would have given 150% focus my grades would have been straight A’s I feel. I am still a work in progress, because I have five more semesters to go and I will obtain my goals one at a time by working at giving 150% focus.
I have never been able to brag comfortably. Truth be told, I was taught to be humble about my accomplishments no matter what they are. Applying to college might be considered as sort of a bragging point which makes me uncomfortable. You are possibly going to find nothing but grand achievements from top to bottom in every other personal statement. But, this one is going to be different to the other applicants who have already conquered in their grades and reached high levels of success or are quite well-formed. They already know what works for them and have no reason to alter anything. They already have their lives figured out, or at least think that to be true, but they are mistaken. Nothing teaches you better about life than failure.
college degree is an enormous accomplishment for anyone, I feel the struggles I endured along
I will achieve success as a student at USC through hard work, determination, and my willingness to seek out what I don’t know. To elaborate on the last point, I need to regress to my freshman year of high school. My freshman year served as a rude awakening for me academically, as school had suddenly become more difficult. At the time, I had the naivete to assume that studying was but an option, and that classes would be as easy as they were the year previous. I turned out to be gravely mistaken, and as my class loads thrust their full weight upon my shoulders, I found myself academically floundering. I was simply too lazy, at the time, to confront the true dilemma; I did not have the drive to succeed. I came to this realization midway through
The University of Maryland is the next step for me to achieve success. Coming out of high school, I had a feeling college would be the defining moment in my life. It seemed that it took me a long time to realize what I needed to do in order to really fulfill my potential – I took my education for granted. I knew I needed more time to develop before enrolling in a full time, 4-year university such as UMD. Though I struggled, I learned what I would need to do at FCC to succeed through the mistakes I had made in high school. I needed to put my theories to work: If I worked longer and harder, would I succeed? If I put in my best effort, would I get the grade I wanted? With that in mind, I did not allow my brain or body to break when I moved on
The values I have previously identified include family and friends, knowledge and success, which guide my daily life and decision-making. The goals I have set rely on the support of my family and friends, which allow me to become more self-aware and monitor the progress of the goals I am working towards. Knowledge is incorporated into the goals because I am continually learning how to better myself as a leader and a person. Learning stress management techniques, thinking outside of the box when faced with problems, and being more decisive are all directly linked to my passion for continual learning and development. Through pursuing these goals, I hope to become a better leader. This will give me a
What am I about? I am about pushing through challenges, always ariving brighter at the end of the tunnel. My visions are focused, but I leave room for distractions in my day-to-day, intentionally or unintentionally. I am about people, and I am about doing the right thing. I am not a perfect person, but I do believe I am a decent one.
