Personal Statement: Why I Want To Become A Nurse

Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to become a nurse practitioner. Being the one to take care of my grandparents by feeding them and serving them their medications made me realize my passion of helping people that cannot help themselves. As I was growing up I was also suffering from kidney failure that finally forced me to leave my family to come to the united states to get proper treatment. When I became old enough I went to school and became certified as a nursing assistant and a phlebotomist. To succeed at my goal of becoming a nurse practitioner I realized that I must first obtain a bachelor of science in nursing. Many people died of sickness and hunger because they could not afford to go to the hospital or be able to consistently earn a living. I used to tell my mother that when I get older, I am going to become a nurse and help all the suffering patients in my country Ethiopia. whenever my mom heard my passion to help people she would cry because she knew I truly cared. With English becoming my second language and having no previous professional experience in the medical field, it was very difficult to land a job. After persistently applying and going to interviews, I finally managed to get a job at a senior care facility as a nursing assistant.
