Why Do You Want to Go to College? Crawling out of bed at 5:30 in the morning is never pleasant. I force myself to go downstairs to the shower, but on my way I see my dad standing in the garage doorway waiting. He sticks his leg out and I bend down to tie his work boot and then I am off to my shower as he leaves for work. I never give it a second thought anymore, as it has become routine. Although, the first time he asked me to tie his shoe stunned me. My dad is the stereotypical macho man, and does not believe in asking for help, especially from his kids. This time I was stopped by my dad. I could see the embarrassment on his face and hear it in his voice when he asked me to tie his shoe. I knew he would not forgive himself for showing me what he believed to be a sign of weakness. Nevertheless, that one simple request was my indicator of how unbearable his pain is. However, he suffers through his physical discomfort for his family. I want to go to college to prove to my dad that he does not go to work and endure excruciating pain for nothing. I strive to be able to take care of my parents and provide for them as they have provided for me. Above all, I want to receive the college education my parents never pursued because of language barriers and other obstacles, and follow my aspirations of becoming a physician assistant. My desire for a college education goes beyond myself. Being a physician assistant in physical therapy will allow me to be the person that helps another gain or regain control of their body. I want to be apart of the support system that encourages a patient that has lost hope to continue their fight, because the fight and struggle is what gets us the things we strongly
