For as long as I remembered, I have always dreamed of becoming a physician. I want to use the knowledge I have to ease the suffering of others and help cure them. I believe Yale is the perfect place for me to start realizing my dream. When I first learned about Yale School of Medicine, I was intrigued by the Yale System. I was drawn in by the respect Yale has for student initiative and its emphasis on providing guidance as opposed to promoting competition. I feel that fosters an environment where I would be encouraged to learn for the sake of gaining knowledge as opposed to achieving a specific rank. With the new curriculum in place starting in 2015, Yale introduces clinical experience to its students very early on. A key aspect of being a
The medical field is a career path that brings about many options and opportunities of great value. The noble idea of being a doctor tends to cloud the diligent studying and precise training that is actually required for this career. I have wanted to become a doctor since a very young age, and now that the opportunity is here for the taking, I have fully researched what it takes to succeed in this profession and various specialties of the practice. The road to a medical degree is one filled with thousands of notes, years of schooling, and many stressful nights, but the reward is one incomparable to any other. Saving people’s lives on a day-to-day basis has been one of my dreams for as long as I can remember, so the rigorous curriculum
When my interest and desire to become a physician went underway during my Junior year of undergrad, I had the desire to attend a medical school that I would fit into well, obtain a great medical education, and enjoy the years that I would spend at the school. I wanted to find a school that I could use my diverse skills to improve not only the student body and community, but also my life by being at a school with a similar vision as I have for myself. When researching universities that would fit this mold I came across Morehouse School of Medicine. After researching the school's mission and goals, I felt that I fit into the mold of a diverse individual looking for a nurturing environment where I could gain an effective medical education. The
Just as the institution is eager to continue embracing the ever-changing world of healthcare and medicine, I too embody this same distinguishing characteristic. Throughout my undergraduate experiences I have learned in order to be a steward and servant of the medical profession one must exercise teamwork, service, empathy, accountability, and optimism; all of which coincide with the tenets that are declared by the Meharry Medical College, School of Medicine culture. Attending this medical school would be one of the greatest rewards for my motivation and persistence. I know for certain there would be no greater experience than to be a part of the Meharry Medical College
I come from a small rural town nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. My hometown is split down the middle by a set of railroad tracks. On the north side, one can find pristine neighborhoods, newer schools, most doctors’ offices, and the only hospital in town. The south side of the town stands as a stark contrast. On the south side, you no longer find the wealthy neighborhoods but rather dilapidated and condemned homes and housing projects. One seems to find abandoned buildings on every corner, many inhabited by those that have lost their homes. Limited help is coming for those who need it, mostly through churches and volunteer programs targeting the underserved. Many doctors, dentists, and nurses are giving their time and resources to help
For the longest time, the medical field has grown as a part of me. I have been inspired to become a physician since my dad has been a long time patient of type II diabetes and kidney failure. This affected me because as a little girl, I would watch after his health by monitoring what he eats, giving him his insulin shots, and making sure he stays actively up on his feet. My father was the first to detect my natural interest in medicine and taking care of others, so he always kept me involved. What started off as projects in science fairs, turned into knowledge seeking state-wide competitions. My hobby of taking care of other people became a two hour volunteering shift at my high school nurses office. I started attending summer camps that were competitive to get into, and now my major in college is what I will use to get me where I need to be. Although I want to be an Emergency Room Physician, the general ‘doctor guideline’ includes but isn’t limited to common courses in the Bachelor of Sciences (i.e; Chemistry, Biological sciences, Physics, Human genetics). 4-year undergraduate degree program, an addition four years in medical school and a variation of 2-7 years in residency and fellowship (usually split 4:3 years or less)— this varies depending on specialization. Before the admissions of medical school, the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) must be taken and a high score must be achieved.
I have cultivated many skills throughout my undergraduate education that I believe will help me succeed throughout medical school. My decision to become a doctor did not happen overnight but was a passion that grew with me and inspired my entire life. I am eager to start my journey at Morehouse College of medicine and become a physician that provides quality treatment and works on improving health care in rural areas and underserved communities in Georgia and across the United
I am confident that the University of Connecticut School of Medicine is a respectable medical school that can prepare me for my future professional career in medicine by providing exceptional opportunities for my medical education. My interest in this instution lies on its commitment for innovative medical education aiming to prepare its students for their medical career. Therefore, the medical curriculum of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, M delta, caught my eye when I was exploring medical schools to apply since it was unique and I was certain that it was an interesting way to learn medicine.

As I mentioned in my personal statement, I am in pursuit of a quality education and here, I share a few reasons why I believe the Yale School of Medicine will provide me with what I seek. Firstly, I am interested in the Yale School of Medicine because I will be groomed for success in my long-term goals at this institution. I believe this because the school’s mission involves educating and inspiring medical scholars as well as future leaders. As an aspiring physician, I do not plan to use the knowledge I will gain in medical school solely in my practice of medicine. I intend to also use that knowledge to pilot positive changes in the practice of obstetric medicine in Nigeria. Consequently, I know that attending this institution will not only teach me to be a scholar in the field of medicine but also a leader.
Tufts’ curriculum is a reflection of the kind of physician the University strives to produce, and the kind of doctor that I want to be. It is structured holistically, and utilizes all learning modalities in an effective manner. I love how students study a specific scientific component while learning about diseases that go hand-in-hand with that component, and subsequently meet with patients that have the diseases currently being studied. As a teacher, I admire the continuity of the curriculum. As a prospective student, I appreciate the University’s commitment to providing the highest quality of education possible.
The motto of Johns Hopkins University, in English, means “The truth will set you free.” Although originally a quote from the Bible, it is essentially a quote that promotes academic freedom and the importance of learning. To me, this is what makes Johns Hopkins so unique and perfect for me. It will allow me to continue my current interests while simultaneously broadening the scope of who I am as a person.
When researching medical schools, one of the most important criteria I looked for was a medical school that prioritized serving underserved populations. Many of my experiences in college have helped me understand what type of physician I want to be. In combination with my courses, I knew that my life calling would revolve around alleviating health disparities as both a physician and a scholar. Therefore, when I considered the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, I was happy to see that the school understands its role in addressing this problem. Therefore, I immediately was attracted to Temple because I want to attend a medical school that inspires students like me to affect change.
Medicine is a vast field. I have taken various health science classes over the past three years that have given me a brief overview of medicine and physiology. However, I believe that a summer experience at Summer Ventures would allow me to gain a better understanding of science by immersing myself in research and other learning opportunities. During my sophomore year of high school I took AP Psychology to complement my schedule. I wasn’t very serious about the course in the beginning, but over time I found myself becoming really intrigued with the subject. Moreover, I have been left with a lasting desire to learn more about the brain and the human body. An opportunity to do research on a topic such as the health sciences would not only provide
Aside from the fact that Yale School of Medicine is one of the world’s most prestigious medical schools, there are many reasons why I am very interested in the school. My professional interest lies in translational medicine, specifically in conducting research to create and improve therapeutic treatments. This focus aligns well with Yale’s educational mission “to educate and inspire scholars and future leaders who will advance the practice of medicine and the biological sciences.” The word “advance” suggests the importance of research in promoting science and medicine. My interest in research has been demonstrated by my extensive involvement in research so far.
