Nothing is more irritating than when I hear about someone who is either getting bullied or being the bully. Active bullying is not something that should even be a thing in this world, but it is, and it is inevitable to happen. Imagine going to school everyday and not hearing about any drama for your whole high school career. Yes, it is very hard to imagine because almost every school has dealt with some sort of drama, but think of how much more would get accomplished and how many more people would succeed in this world without taking their own life or needing help for everything. Severe or minor bullying can last days, but sometimes maybe even months or years, depending on how easy the target is. The best thing to do when someone is bullying you, is to act like nothing's wrong, and be your happy self. The bullies only target you if you let them win; they will keep coming after you if they see signs of weakness. Learning to let go of a situation where someone is criticizing you or hurting you in any way is hard; having it happen a few times makes it easier to learn to let go of. That’s not always the case, sometimes, the more someone bullies you, the more angry and upset you become and that can lead to many things. Drinking, smoking, partying, and gambling addictions are just a few of the outcomes from being a bully or a victim.
One who bullies may have problems of their own or get jealous of someone else, so they feel the need to lash out on someone to make themselves feel better. Depression can cause anger which you could find in almost any bully without even doing research; the ones who do the harming, are usually the ones suffering, whether it is at home, by another classmate, or on social media. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for adolescents between the ages of 15-19, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. Two mothers April Quick and Debbie Smith, both lost children to suicide due to bullying in 2015. The two girls, Debbie and Emily were both suffering from bullying and nobody would lend a hand to help. What if you were terrified to go to your school every day? 160,000 students miss school each day because they get bullied and are scared of what will happen (“Bullying Statistics”). Bullying has been a major problem in schools for far too long. Students should not be scared to go to a place that is supposed to be safe and where they can express themselves. Students that bully never get the punishment they deserve, which causes them to continue to act. When you go to school, you should know that if you are getting treated in a horrific way, the people who were treating you that way will get punished. What would teachers do without bullying? I know they really enjoy sitting in bully training where they are told the same thing repeatedly. The students’ school days would be boring, right? 32 hours of the school year is taken up by lessons about bullying. What would you do with that spare time? Well, the teachers would just give us more work. Fun. Also, bullying is a part of life. If you get bullied, oh well for you. After high school, it’s not like you’ll ever see the bully again.
