Due to events in the recent past, I have become aware that America’s government is definitely not as strong or as well run as it used to be. While I believe that the government may still be here in 2215, the future does not look so bright for us. To quote Abraham Lincoln, “We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the Courts, not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow the men who would pervert the Constitution.” We have had many presidents, Congresses (as individual representatives and as a whole), as well as the Supreme Court not take the Constitution, our Founding Fathers’ brilliance, or any other foundation that this country was formed on, into consideration when making decisions for our country. I have only
The home of the brave and land of the free was the perfect sounding place to many immigrants from different places. They came to America because they wanted to escape their poverty, government, war or previous life to achieve the american dream they hear about. The American Dream has changed the last few decades whether it was for good or for worse. Alex Tizon, Gary Soto and Sherman Alexie tells us about the dream that everyone used to seek out but will also tell show how much has changed from the past to the present.
American Exceptionalism is a term used to define the ideal that America is far superior to all other countries. It has been used to justify unfair actions and used to cover up flaws. Children are taught from a young age that America is the model country, and the people living there can do no wrong. In school, each bad thing that America has done in history is skimmed over, yet the accomplishments and victories are taught in great detail. For years, Americans have hid behind the phrase American exceptionalism as a way to not only avoid taking responsibility for their actions but to not push themselves to be better, as they already consider themselves perfect. The concept of this exceptionalism impedes the progress and evolution of mankind as they give up caring and trying to better themselves.
The American Dream has long been considered the ideal that represents everything the United States stands for: hard work, determination, and reward. However, it can mean many different things to many different people. It is simultaneously the beacon that lures immigrants to this country and a forgotten myth to some native-born citizens (many who take it for granted each and every day). The story of Barack Obama’s family represents one of the most archetypical scenarios of the American Dream. His father moved to the United States in hope of a better life for himself and his children, a goal which he undoubtedly achieved (his son would go on to be the first United States president with African heritage) (Obama). This serves as evidence that the American Dream was attainable through hard work and resilience in the past. However, could Barack Obama Sr.’s inspiring story be a possibility in the modern world? Although it is true that the American Dream is significantly harder for many to accomplish due to rising competition in our modern society, its core philosophy is still very much in existence.
Illegal immigration has become more of an important issue in the United States since Donald Trump’s campaign for president in 2016. Immigration can be known as the act of people crossing national borders to live permanently in other countries. It becomes illegal when they cross those borders without the legal right to be in those countries. The U.S. has been an immigrant country since the pilgrims in the 1600s and has ever since, been diverse. Most of the immigrants are Latinos that come from Central America, but they also come from all over the world. The current path to legal citizenship is flawed and needs to be reformed to allow rights to be upheld, equal and fair treatment of all applicants, and to facilitate the process altogether.
The American Dream is successful; however, this “dream” only applies to a select few. To be included in this dream is really challenging. In short, being colored is one disadvantage you can encounter. Also, being a minority does not help the situation. In most cases even being a woman has its problems. This includes white woman too. Being poor is also a huge problem. This condition alone excludes most of the population. The American Dream goes to those who are privileged . When a common pet is given a home and food it is basically guaranteed a good life. Success is promised; even though it 's a pet and can only attain a certain amount of success. It
Immigration in the United States has been going on ever since the New World was founded and colonies began to settle as early as the 1600’s. Immigrants that came to the new world, some came for a new life and to practice the religion they desire because they were unable to practice that religion in many countries across Europe. Others were brought by force, thousands of African Americans were brought to America for the pure fact of Slavery. America is a true nation of Immigration.
The forefathers of our great nation established America with the idea that its citizens would be guaranteed life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. What is it to makes oneself happy? The American Dream is represented in many ways and every person lives and chases a different version of the American Dream. In these three stories we will identify with the characters as well as the authors to visualize what the American Dream is to them and if it is bigger than ourselves. “Sweat” by Zora Neale Hurston, “Winter Dreams” by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and “Babylon Revisited” also by F. Scott Fitzgerald will go in depth so that we can truly understand the purpose.
Even under the amended Articles of Confederation, we have little power to run our country. We have nothing if not our people and our pride, and we are losing both. The people of this nation are losing their faith in the Articles and this government, and for good reason. We have failed to govern. The Constitution promises that we can both ensure the safety and the liberties of our people. It is an agreement between the nation and the states- between the nation and our society. Federalism is the idea of sharing power, which all will do so willingly. The farmers of our nation have declared the Articles a tyranny, going so far as acting in rebellion against it. It is our job to listen to these rebellions and defiances, for that was how began our own country. Under the Constitution, here shall be no tyranny, for what tyrant can there be when power is shared? All three branches of the government will work together to reign the nation and reign each other.
Lawful Immigration Reform is crucial to the U.S., a comprehensive modernization is needed for both immigrant and non-immigrant visas. This modernization needs to include substantially streamlining the process for all visas; reassessing the visa waiver; creating a point based high-skill migration program to fill areas where there is a skill shortage; and expanding temporary worker programs.
When we see outside today, you will see the different races and people. Well now some of those population might decrease, because of the new ban Donald J. Trump issued. He sighed the ban saying that citizens of North Korea, Chad, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen are limiting entry to the U.S. Even though Iraqi citizens don’t have the same restrictions they are slowing their entry. President Trump states that this will be a great deal in for the safety of America and will help reduce the inconvenience for U.S. when applying citizenships. Later after the ban was officially decided he tweeted,"Making America Safe is my number one priority. We will not admit those into our country we cannot safely vet." When later asked homeland
“Make America Great Again.” These are the famous words President Donald Trump stated during his campaign in a successful attempt to gain votes. Likewise Kim Jong Un lies about his country being the top of the line and the best there is. Both powerful leaders utilize deceit and dishonesty to improve their social image. Yet, regardless of their claims, these two leaders haven't helped their respective nations so far; they only seem to care about reputation, similarly to Abigail Williams and Judge Danforth in The Crucible by Arthur Miller, all demonstrating that the authority of an individual does not make their word any more honest.
For many immigrants, America is the land of opportunity. Most immigrants travel to the United States because they want to be able to have better lives but also to give their children more opportunities. They come for the American dream. Parents want to give their children an education and a better chance of having a successful life. For the parents of Lorenzo, Cristian, Oscar, and Luis, that was all they wanted. Oscar Vazquez, Cristian Arcega, Lorenzo Santillan, and Luis Aranda went to high school near the desert where most of the students were undocumented and were not expected to go to college. The team of the Carl Hayden robotics club had to work harder to be successful because their illegal status limited them to what they could do.
The Constitution of the United States is actually an illusion for elites to take advantage and dominate the country’s way of politics. When the Framers organized the United States Constitution, they were intended to create a stabilized system of government in a manner that was still accountable yet powerful. Keep in mind that the founding fathers mostly consisted of white men who wanted to protect their property. The establishment of the separation of powers and checks and balances, for example, served a purpose to make sure that not one branch was too overpowering and that each branch had certain limits and powers over another. However, the intended purpose of these systems continue to serve most of its general purpose in our current
Donald Trump has promised to make America great again if he wins the presidential election. He talks in terms of creating jobs by reducing government regulations and modifying trade policies that will force businesses to stop transferring jobs overseas. Will that be enough to make America great again?
To some people, the American Dream is still provided by America, but to others the American Dream isn’t an opportunity given by America, so what’s the true answer? To start off, what is the American Dream? The American Dream is the accomplishment of getting a high education, stable well paying job, so that sooner or later you can be able to provide for yourself and children, without a problem, and provide for yourself after retirement. There are a lot of factors that go into what the American Dream is, but the main concern is if it is still provided by America. Although there are many other factors that can keep you away from achieving the American Dream, this opportunity is still given to those in America. There is so much commitment and dedication that goes into accomplishing this goal.
